MATE ULTRA C Guide

2. Place the punch guide assembly into a suitable retaining fixture, such as Mate’s C-E Station Torque Stand Assembly (P/N
MATE00083). A bench vise is NOT considered to be a suitable retaining fixture, due to considerable risk of damaging the
guide body.
3. Use the appropriate hex key (see below) to sequentially loosen the four socket head cap screws that retain the punch
head. Loosen each screw no more than one turn at a time, until all of the pressure from the disc springs has been
relieved. Avoid using worn or damaged hex keys to prevent the hex openings in the four socket head cap screws from
being damaged.
a. Hex key size for C Station: 5mm
b. Hex key size for D Station: 6mm
c. Hex key size for E Station: 6mm
4. Remove the punch head and the plastic cover.
5. Remove the disc springs, taking care to note the pattern in which they are stacked. It is essential to exactly duplicate
this stacking pattern during reassembly.
6. Thoroughly clean all of the exposed components, including the disc springs, and inspect them for excessive wear or
damage. It is acceptable for some wear to be present on the sleeve that passes through the center of the disc springs.
7. Replace any excessively worn components (see component list below for part numbers). Note that if any one of the disc
springs is broken or excessively worn, the entire stack should be replaced.

1. Remove the punch and stripper from the punch guide assembly (refer to small cutaway views):
To remove the
punch, simply
unscrew the
drawbolt.
With the Ease-Out
design the
drawbolt is
supported
internally by the
Quick Length
Adjustment
Assembly.
As the drawbolt is
unscrewed, the punch
moves out of the guide
until it can be firmly
grabbed and removed.
Bolt holes in the punch
shoulder are
unnecessary. Punch
removal resistance is
overcome by unscrewing
the drawbolt.
Quick Length
Adjustment Button
NOTE: Assemblies
manufactured after June
1999 feature a Quick
Length Adjustment Button
on the side of the guide.

8. Thoroughly lubricate the disc springs and the sleeve that passes through the center of the disc springs. Use an extreme
pressure, high temperature type grease.
9. Install the disc springs, taking care to observe the correct stacking pattern.
10. Apply Loctite 242 (or equivalent) to the four socket head cap screws. Be sure the screws are clean before the Loctite is
applied to them.
11. Install the punch head and start four socket cap screws to retain the punch head. It may be necessary to support the
center portion of the punch guide assembly from underneath in order to start the four screws.
12. Tighten the four socket head cap screws until they are snug, and then tighten them sequentially, no more than one turn
at a time. Tighten according to the torque specified below:
a. Torque for C station socket head cap screws (4 pcs) = 19Nm (170 lb/in)
b. Torque for D station socket head cap screws (4 pcs) = 45Nm (410 lb/in)
c. Torque for E station socket head cap screws (4 pcs) = 45Nm (410 lb/in)
