INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Switch the unit on by pressing the On-Off button as already described, ensure that the
boost button is in the off position (off) and always start with programme (P1).
Begin by pressing the arrow up keys.
ach single press increases the intensity by 1mA.
The intensity level should be set at a level which is strong
and comfortable.
The sensation felt is both tingling and pulsating. This
setting is pulse mode which helps to promote the release of
ndorphins. This is the body’s natural pain blocking
chemical.
RESSING THE BOOST BUTTON
With the on-set of a contraction, simply press the boost button on the right hand side of the
T NS. This will automatically boost the power by 20% and increase the frequency, giving a
constant tingling sensation. Once the contraction has passed, simply switch the boost
button back to its off position. The T NS will return to the original burst settings. Use this
programme (P1) for the early stages of your labour. Programme (P2) can be used as the
contractions become more frequent. This programme offers added boost as the
contractions increase in intensity and frequency.
*(Please remember to return from (P2) to (P1) please hold the mode button for 3 seconds.
RE ARE AND RACTICE
For best results in labour you should be familiar with the T NS before labour begins. You
do not want to be learning how to use a T NS unit between contractions! We recommend
you pick up your Obstetric T NS unit in your 38th week or earlier if your Obstetrician thinks
the baby is coming early. You can practice positioning the electrodes and using the T NS
before you start labour quite safely and it makes using T NS in labour much easier if you
are familiar with it.

BLADDER CONTROL FOR WOMEN
Urinary incontinence is an inability to hold urine and / or faeces until able to reach a toilet.
It is often temporary, and it always results from an underlying medical condition.
Women experience incontinence twice as often as men. Pregnancy, childbirth, the
menopause and the structure of the female urinary tract account for this difference.
ither sex can become incontinence due to neurotically injury, birth defects, strokes,
multiple sclerosis and physical problems associated with age. It should be noted that
incontinence is not inevitable with age.
Incontinence in females often occurs because of problems with muscles that help to hold
or release urine. The urine is stored in the bladder until urination occurs.
Incontinence in women usually occurs because of problems with muscles that help to hold
or release urine. The kidneys excrete the urine which is stored in the bladder. Urine exists
from the bladder via the urethra. Urination occurs when muscles in the wall of the bladder
contract forcing urine out of the urethra.
At the same time the sphincter muscles surrounding the urethra, let urine pass out of the
body. Incontinence may occur when the sphincter muscles surrounding the urethra
become less effective.
Incontinence is treatable and in many cases may be cured irrespective of age.
TYPES OF INCONTINENCE
There are a number of different types including, the most common stress incontinence,
urge incontinence and mixed incontinence.
STRESS INCONTINENCE
This is associated with the leakage of small amounts of urine during sneezing, coughing
and other activities, which increase the pressure in the abdomen. It is more common in
females and occurs when the bladder neck and other control mechanisms are not working
correctly.

BLADDER CONTROL FOR WOMEN
URGE INCONTINENCE
An overactive bladder cause leakage of large amounts of urine at unexpected times,
including sleep. Sufferers experience a sudden strong urge to go to the toilet and are often
unable to retain the urine. The frequency of urination also increase causing problems for
everyday life.
IXED INCONTINENCE
It is a combination of the above tow types.
ELECTRICAL STI ULATION
Brief courses of electrical stimulation can strengthen muscles in the lower pelvis in a
similar way to exercising the muscles. lectrodes are temporarily placed in the vagina to
stimulate nearby muscles. This helps to stabilize overactive muscles and stimulate
contraction of urethral muscles. lectrical stimulation can be used to reduce both stress
and urge incontinence.
The Stress Incontinence programme is based on strengthening the muscles of the pelvic
floor. Once strength has been improved the] muscles are better able to resist urinary
leakage caused by external pressures applied to the bladder.
Low frequency currents used in this programme increase the blood flow to the muscles
increasing their resistance to fatigue and reducing the involuntary contractions of the
bladder.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS
Incontinence may be due to a number of different causes. The incontinence stimulator
should never be used unless a medical practitioner has diagnosed the causes and source
of incontinence.

PRECAUTIONS
1, Read the instruction manual before use.
2. Patients with an implanted electronic device (for example, a pace maker or other device)
must not undergo incontinence stimulation treatment without first consulting their
doctor.
3. If incontinence therapy becomes ineffective or unpleasant stimulation should be
discontinued until its use is re-evaluated by the physician or therapist.
4. Do not use an incontinence stimulator while operating machinery or vehicles.
5. Turn the device off before applying or removing the electrodes.
6. The Mums to Be incontinence stimulator device has no AP/APG protection. Do not use it
in the presence of explosive atmosphere and flammable mixtures.
WARNINGS
1. The incontinence stimulator should not be used during pregnancy.
2. The device should be used only under the continued supervision of a physician.
3. The user must keep the device out of the reach of children.
4. Keep the control unit dry and away from source of heat.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
1. Do not use incontinence stimulator if you suffer from any muscle disorders
2. Do not use incontinence stimulator if a bladder or vaginal infection is present.
3. Do not use incontinence stimulator if you have been diagnosed or treated for cervical
cancer.

EMS STIMULATION MODE
TONING AND ASSAGE THERAPY PROGRA ES 7, 8, 9 & 10
The .M.S (electronic muscle stimulation) programmes are designed to help tighten and
tone a range of muscle groups. ach programme runs for 20/30 minutes per session, on
the following pages you will find recommendations for position of electrodes, you may try
each programme (7, 8, 9 & 10) to see which suite you the most.
INTENSITY LEVEL
The intensity level should be set so it is comfortable but always at a level which is not too
strong and unpleasant. Treatment times should always be a minimum of one-hour
minimum treatments two per day. T NS may be used as long as necessary or as required.
EXPLANATION OF E S
lectrical Muscle Stimulation is an accepted and proven way of treating muscular injuries.
It works by sending electronic pulses to the muscle needing treatment; this causes the
muscle to contract and relax.
It is derived from the square wave from, originally invented by John Faraday in 1831. It
works by directly stimulating motor neurons which causes muscle contraction. It is widely
used in hospital and sports clinics for the treatment of muscular injuries and for the re-
education of paralyzed muscles, to prevent atrophy in affected muscle and improve muscle
tone and blood circulation.
HOW E S WORKS
1. Relaxation of muscle spasms
2. Prevention or retardation of disuse atrophy
3. Increasing local blood circulation
4. Muscle re-education
5. Immediate post-surgical stimulation of calf muscles to prevent venous thrombosis
6. Maintaining or increasing range of motion
The MS units send comfortable impulses through the skin that stimulate the nerves in the
treatment area. When the muscle receives this signal it contracts. As the signal strength
increases, the muscle contracts as in physical exercise. Then when the pulse ceases, the
muscle relaxes and the cycle starts over again, (Stimulation, Contraction and Relaxation.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
HOW TENS WORKS
There is nothing “magic” about Transcutaneous lectrical Nerve Stimulation (T NS). T NS
is intended to be used to relieve pain. The T NS unit sends comfortable impulses through
the skin that stimulate the nerve (or nerves) in the treatment area. In many cases, this
stimulation will greatly reduce or eliminate the pain sensation the patient feels. Pain relief
varies by individual patient, mode selected for therapy, and the type of pain. In many
patients , the reduction or elimination of pain lasts longer than the actual period of
stimulation (sometimes as much as three to four times longer). In others, pain is only
modified while stimulation actually occurs. You may discuss this with your physician or
therapist.
EXPLANATION OF PAIN
Pain is a warning system and the body’s method of telling us that something is wrong. Pain
is important; without it abnormal conditions may go undetected, causing damage or injury
to vital parts of our bodies.
ven though pain is a necessary warning signal of trauma or malfunction in the body,
nature may have gone too far in its design. Aside from its value in diagnosis, long-lasting
persistent pain serves no useful purpose. Pain does not begin until coded messages travel
to the brain where they are decoded, analysed, and reached to. The pain message travels
from the injured area along the small nerves leading to the spinal cord. Here the message
is switched to different nerves that travel up the spinal cord to the brain. The pain message
is interpreted and pain is perceived.
EXPLANATION OF TENS
Transcutaneous lectrical Nerve Stimulation is a non-invasive, drug free method of
controlling pain. T NS uses tiny electrical impulses sent through the skin to nerves to
modify your pain perception. T NS does not cure any physiological problem; it only helps
control the pain. T NS does not work for everybody; however, in most patients it is effective
in reducing or eliminating the pain, allowing for a return to normal activity.
