HAZARD OF ELECTRIC TREATMENT TABLES (OR BEDS) WITH POWER
ASSISTED LIFTING MECHANISMS
Objective
To raise awareness of the potential dangers associated with electrically adjustable treatment
tables or beds with power assisted lifting mechanism.
Background
• A small child was fatally injured as a result of being crushed between the moving linkages of an
electrically powered height adjustable table, while the table was in operation.
• Most tables (or beds) incorporate scissor type linkages that introduce potential hazzards if proper
safety precautions are not observed.
• Please review the following information.
Risk Control Measures
• Access to table or bed should be restricted to the operator and patient only. This might be
achieved through the placement of physical barriers or by ensuring that only operators and
patients have access to treatment areas.
• Under no circumstances should a child be present in a room in which electrically adjustable
treatment tables or beds exist except as a patient on the appliance or as an age appropriate
child who can be safely accommodated in a playpen
• For the operator, visibility beyond and below the tabletop in most cases is restricted. During table
height adjustment, the operator must check below the table-top and ensure that children (other
than those being treated at the time), are not in the vicinity of the table (or bed).
• Any operating controls should be positioned so the opportunity for unintentional activation is
avoided.
• Employers who operate these appliances must ensure adequate training is given to operators
and employees on how the appliance works, load limits, and all designer or manufacturer built-in
safety features.
Welcome
Thank you for choosing OmniPlinth Treatment Tables. We are
confident you will enjoy your therapy table for years to come. Great pride
and craftsmanship is built into each table, resulting in a quality product
for you.
This operating manual provides instruction for use and care of most
models of OmniPlinth Electric High-Low tables including:
• Two-section
• Three-section
• Five-section
• Bobath
• Mat Platform
• Osteopathic
• Multi-purpose/Traction
• Chiropractic
• Massage Therapy
Although there are many designs available, the basic operation is
common throughout all models. This manual describes the operation of
all standard features as well most optional features.

Head Section - Raising and Lowering
The Head Section is controlled via one-handed operation of the adjustment knob
located under the top of the Head Rest. To adjust the Head Rest, grasp the
adjustment knob by positioning your fingers behind the white support bracket while
positioning the knob in the palm of your hand. To release the locking mechanism,
squeeze with your hand to depress the knob inwards. This hand will also support
the Head Rest while making the adjustment. The Head Rest is now free to be
adjusted. Set to the new desired position and carefully release the adjustment
knob while continuing to support the Head Rest. Once the Head Rest is locked into
the new position, you may release your hand from the Head Rest.
Leg Section - Raising and Lowering
The Leg Section operates on a friction-fit clamping bar which allows infinite
positioning of the section within the travel range. To raise the section, lift
the section the desired angle and carefully let go. The section will lock at
that position. To lower the section, locate the release handle which is
accessible from both sides of the table. Gently support the section while
lifting up on the release handle. The section is now free to be adjusted a
different angle or returned to flat position.
Raising and Lowering the Table - Foot Bar Control (if equipped)
Plug the Line Cord of the table into an electrical outlet. Locate the foot bar control
on either side of the table. With your foot, activate the height adjustment of the
table by gently lifting up or pressing down on the bar. When the table is at the
desired height, release the foot bar.
Raising and Lowering the Table Using the Foot Pedal
Ensure the air hose is attached to the brass nipple on the front of the motor and to one of
the nipples on the foot pedal. Plug the Line Cord of the table into an electrical outlet. Press
on the foot pedal to adjust the table up and down. NOTE: The foot pedal is marked Up and
Down. If operation is opposite to the markings, move the air hose to the other nipple on the
foot pedal, and try again. Operation should now correspond to the markings.

Casters (Optional)
The casters (wheels) if installed on your table allow easy repositioning within your
facility. Casters are to be in the up (retracted) position when the table is in use. To
move the table, locate the easy-step bracket for the front and rear casters. With
your foot, gently step on raised side of the bracket to activate the casters. With
both front and rear casters in contact with the floor, move the table to the desired
location. To retract the casters, gently step on the front and rear easy-step
brackets so the casters are up.
Adjustable Arm Rests (5 section models only)
If your table is equipped with adjustable arm rests, they can be adjusted vertically
(up and down) as well as 180º horizontally (front to rear). Each arm has two black
adjusting knobs. To position the arm rest, loosen one or both knobs. Then adjust
the arm rest vertically and/or horizontally to the desired location. Tighten the
adjusting knobs to secure the arm rest in place.
Frame Leveller
If the floor is uneven, the table may “rock” slightly. If this is the case, locate the
corner of the table that is low (is rocking). Lift the corner of the table up slightly and
unscrew the metal leveller about one-half of a turn. Check if the table is stable on
the floor, if not repeat the process until table does not rock.
Postural Drainage (Optional)
If your table is equipped with the postural drainage feature, there will be two black
locking levers (handles) on each side of the table. To raise the sections of the table
into postural drainage position, loosen both handles on one side of the table only.
With the help of the gas-springs, lift the sections into the desired position. Tighten
both handles to secure the sections.

Although our tables are virtually maintenance free here is some advise to ensure you can enjoy your
purchase problem-free for many years.
How to clean the Naugahyde?
The Naugahyde upholstery on your table should be cleaned between patients with an approved Naugahyde
cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners or pine-based solutions on the upholstery. Medelco offers the following
approved Naugahyde cleaners which can be found on our website at www.medelco.ca :
• Genie Plus Wipes or Spray Solution
• Germosolve 5 Surface Disinfectant
What maintenance to perform?
Our Tables are virtually maintenance free, however it is advisable to check on a regular basis for any loose parts
and tighten them as required. This procedure should be done at least once a month. No lubrication is necessary.
Troubleshooting
Should the lift stop functioning check the following:
• Is the electrical outlet functional
• Is the hose to the foot control compressed or damaged.
• If the table was overloaded an internal fuse to protect the motor may become defective
• The electrical cord to the motor may be defective.
Should the headrest/leg section fail to lock in position, there may be grease or soap on the friction lock bar. This
will cause the bar to slide without locking. Clean with rubbing alcohol and wipe the bar with a dry cloth.
For any questions call Medelco customer service at 1.800.268.7927 or 289.374.0074.
