2. Functional characteristics.
The METALU S-3800 pool lift is designed to help people with reduced mobility access swimming pools,
either with assistance (S-3800) or independently (S-3800/ ). It is battery powered. There is no need to
connect to the mains. The design is custom to each pool. Placed on the ground, it can help user enter the
pool and/or reach the raised platform. Made of AISI 316 stainless steel with powder coating to protect the
paint and a load capacity up to 120 kg. The turning range is 360º in both directions (this range can be
limited) moving at less than 0 1 metres per second. Therefore, the ramp-up and slow-down acceleration
speeds are low. The vertical movement of the seat depends on the profile of the swimming pool. It has
an upper limit of .6 m. Different arm options and chair positions are possible to adapt to the profile of
the pool.
It is necessary to fill in the swimming pool profile form provided by METALU’s customer service office
in order to design the lift and analyse whether the product is compatible with the pool.

This product has the following stand-out features:
 It is battery powered. There is no need to connect to the mains.

3. Main product standards.
 The manufacturing and finish of the lift have the following characteristics:
o The entire structure and accessories are made of 316 stainless steel.
o The finish of the metal avoids sharp edges that could cause injuries.
o The nuts and bolts do not pose any kind of risks. Everything is put together with
rounded bolts that will not scratch the user.
o Moving parts have enough space to avoid trapping any body parts.
 A warning sign is included indicating the maximum lifting weight ( 20 kg).
 The static coefficient has been considered, doubled to calculate the mechanical strength and
risk of overturning.
 Moving parts move slowly, at less than 0 1 m/s, avoiding the risk of falling off the seat.
 The lift has a red emergency stop button on the control box, in a visible and accessible place.
 The control box has LEDs showing the battery charge level.
 The linear lift raising/lowering actuator has a built-in red emergency socket that allows for the lift
to be lowered manually if needed.
 The actioning control has an override key that bypasses the electrical system.

. Dimensions of the lift.
The METALU S-3800 and S-3800/ models are made with a custom design according to the pool where
the lift will be installed. Therefore, the dimensions of the lift arm and seat tube may change.
The image below shows the lift dimensions for a standard model (974 arm), units in millimetres [mm].

The lift must be installed far from any obstacles within its working area. The area that the lift needs in 3D
space is shown in the image below:

2. Proper use of the product and maintenance.
 Preliminary considerations.
o To use the pool lift correctly, follow the instructions in this manual and be mindful of the
precautions and warnings, as well as the maintenance instructions. It is the lift owner’s
responsibility to follow the instructions in this manual.
o If some users need help from other people, it is important to consider how many people are
needed to help them get on the seat to enter the pool. In any case, at least one helper is
needed for the manual turning model to turn the lift.
o If the pool lift is to be used independently by one person, without assistance, there should be
a communication device nearby to allow them to ask for assistance if needed.
o During movement or before starting the movement, all body parts of both the user and any
helpers should be kept far from the lift's moving parts.
 Position of the user in the lift.
o The user will occupy the seat, from where they can easily reach and use the controller.
o The S-3800/ model (independent user) has a safety hook next to the seat. This hook makes
sure that the controller is always near the user.
o During lifting and lowering, the person’s limbs will not come into contact with parts of the lift or
the edge of the pool, provided their arms are resting on the armrests and their feet are on the
footrests.
 Proper use of the lift:
o Use the lift responsibly. Make sure you are familiar with its functions and purpose before
using it.
o The lift must not be used without first following the set-up steps. Check the assembly and
installation instructions in the manual.
o The lift must only be used by authorised members of the establishment.
o Before using the lift, the user must make sure that no person or obstacle is in the path of the
moving parts of the lift.
o Once the user is in the pool, the seat should be returned to its initial position, so that it is not
an obstacle to other users in the pool.
o The lifting weight of the lift, and therefore maximum user weight, is 20kg.
o It is forbidden for more than one person to use the lift at once, even if they weight less than
20 kg together.
o It is forbidden to use the lift as a toy for jumping off of, etc.
o The seat is adapted to anthropometric measurements according to European Standards.
o Follow the visual instructions on the product.

 Maintenance:
o Clean the structure with fresh water. Take care not to spray water on the 24V electrical
components. Then, dry it off with a cotton cloth.
o Dry off any water that may have splashed on the 24V components.
o Check the battery charge level. If necessary, charge the batteries before they die
(approx. 20 cycles).
o Check that all the pins are correctly inserted in the control box.
o Check that the lift works correctly.
o Regularly perform a visual check that all parts of the lift are in good condition and that all
nuts and bolts are tight. If one of the pieces is worn out, do not use the lift until the part
has been replaced. Perform additional inspections for indoor pools.
o Regularly clean the metal connectors of the battery, charger, and control box with a
nylon scourer.
o At the start of the season, apply lithium grease on the gears of model S-3800/ .
o If there are weeks during which the lift isn’t used, we recommend operating it with a
medium load (approx. 75 kg), raising and lowering it several times. This will keep the
lift’s components in good condition.
o During seasons of no use, store the lift in a covered area where it will not be subject to
any impacts, and it can be kept clean, dry, and far from any chemical products.
o During the off season or if the lift is rarely or never used, charge the batteries at least
once a month, even if they are not used.
INDOOR POOLS: maintenance and especially cleaning of indoor pools must be much stricter
due to the atmospheric conditions and temperatures generated.

Correct use of the pool lift model METLAU S-3800 with manual rotation:
The process starts by lifting the user into the pool:
. Access to the seat is possible from whichever side is more comfortable for the user.
2. Release the emergency stop in the control box.
3. Before getting on the seat, the user should check that turning is locked. There is a positioner that
can lock the turning movement.
4. Sit on the seat, place feet on footrests, and fasten seat belt.
5. The assistant can then unlock the turning motion and take the controller. This controller controls
the lifting and lowering movement.
6. From the lowered position (allowing the user to get on), start going up until a height where the
footrest is above the height of the wall.
7. Working with the user, the assistant can turn the machine until they are over the surface of the
water.
IMPORTANT: make sure nobody is swimming under the water who could end up under the pool
lift at any point during the lowering process. It is important to pay attention nobody is accidentally
hit by the lift.
8. Start the descent using the controller until the desired immersion has been achieved without
endangering the user.
9. Release the seat belt to allow the user to get off the seat.
IMPORTANT: when getting off the seat, the user should not rest their weight on the footrest,
even while submerged.
0. Return the seat to the starting position: outside of the pool, ready to pick up another user. This
way the seat and accessories will not get in the way of other pool users. It is advisable to press
the emergency stop button on the control box and lock the turning movement of the lift in order to
avoid undesired movements from anyone who may be in the pool.
To exit the pool, follow the same steps in reverse order, being mindful of the same precautions and
warnings.
Movement of the S-3800 lift:
 The lift is turned manually with help
from another person.
 The lift is raised and lowered using
the controller or with the control box
buttons.

Correct use of the METLAU S-3800/ pool lift with manual rotation:
The process starts by lifting the user into the pool:

IMPORTANT If the lift is going to be used independently by one person, the control cable must be
passed through the safety hook near the seat.
3. Sit on the seat, place feet on footrests, and fasten seat belt.
4. Press the button or use the controller to lift the chair until the footrest is above the height of pool
wall (the controller controls the height and turning motor).
IMPORTANT: The controller has a 2-seconds delay for turning.
5. Once the button has been pressed, turn the lift until the user is above the surface of the pool.
IMPORTANT: make sure nobody is swimming under the water who could end up under the pool
lift at any point during the lowering process. It is important to pay attention nobody is accidentally
hit by the lift.
6. Start the descent until the desired immersion has been achieved without endangering the user.
7. Release the seat belt to allow the user to get off the seat.
IMPORTANT: when getting off the seat, the user should not rest their weight on the footrest,
even while submerged.
8. Lift the seat and turn it away from the pool. This way the seat and accessories will not get in the
way of other pool users. It is advisable for the controller to be in a place that is accessible to the
next user of the pool lift.
To exit the pool, follow the same steps in reverse order, being mindful of the same precautions and
warnings.

Movement of the S-3800/1 lift:
 Both the turning and raising and lowering of the lift is controlled using the controller. The user can do
this completely independently. The control box also has buttons to control the movement.
The S-3800/ model has the option of turning manually. This is very simple to do:
. Remove the two motor positioners from the “Automatic” position.
2. Raise the rotation motor as high as
it goes (screws).
3. Put back the positioners but set them to the “manual” position.
This will allow users to turn the lift manually.

9 basic rules
METALU equipment should be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, making all
necessary queries. The installer should test the equipment after completing the installation, making sure
that everything is correct.
According to art. 2 of Law / 997 on Containers,
the final owner is responsible for packaging. Re-use as
much as possible and dispose of the rest where
appropriate for recycling.
Looking after the environment is everyone’s
responsibility.
METALU equipment should only be used by designated people at centres and by the users of the
equipment.
Those responsible at centres should know the equipment and have read the instructions. If any
questions remain after reading the instructions, contact the manufacturer at the addresses provided below.
Those responsible at centres shall instruct the users on how to operate the equipment.
Before starting up the lift, it should be ensured that
the radius of action is free. While the lift is working, do not
place hands or other objects on the moving parts of the
lift.
Cleaning the exterior is mandatory to preserve the
warranty. Follow the instructions that come with the lift.
According to ITC-BT-3 of the REBT, the machine must be connected to the equipotential connection
conductor that the pool must have.
If the holder of this document is not the end client, the holder must forward it to the end client.
