Operating conditions
◗ Th s product s an Un nterrupt ble
Power Supply (UPS) for computers
and the r per pherals. It must not be
used to supply other electr cal
equ pment (l ght ng, heat ng,
household appl ances, etc.).
◗ Equ pment such as telev s on sets,
stereo systems and v deo recorders
may be connected to the f ltered
outlets 8 only.
PS connections
◗ Connect the UPS 1 to the AC-
power system v a a wall outlet w th an
earth connector, us ng the suppl ed
cord 2 (see f gure A).
◗ Plug cr t cal equ pment (computer,
mon tor, modem, etc.) nto the outlets
9 prov d ng battery backup power
and surge protect on (see f gure B),
tak ng care not to exceed the rated
current nd cated n amperes.
◗ Other dev ces (pr nter, scanner, fax,
etc.) can be connect to the f ltered
outlets 8 that prov de surge
protect on (see f gure B). The f ltered
outlets are not backed up by battery
power n the event of a power outage.
◗ Optional fax/modem connection:
A telephone, fax, modem or Ethernet
data l ne can be protected aga nst
surges by connect ng t to the
telephone outlet v a the UPS. The
dev ce cable s used between the
telephone outlet and the UPS, and
the suppl ed cable 3 s used
between the UPS and the dev ce, as
nd cated n f gure C.
◗ Optional COM connection:
The 500 and 675 VA dev ces can be
connected to the computer us ng the
spec al USB cable 6 suppl ed.
The software ava lable on the CD-
ROM 7 (or downloadable from the
mgeups.com s te) can be conf gured
to mon tor the UPS and the supply of
power to the computer (see f gures D
and F).

Operation

◗ attery charge: The UPS charges
the battery as soon as t s connected
to the AC outlet, whether button 13
s pressed or not. When us ng the
UPS for the f rst t me, t s adv sable
to wa t e ght hours to fully-charge the
battery before connect ng the
equ pment to be protected.
◗ The UPS can rema n connected at
all t mes for cont nuous operat on.
◗ Filtered outlets 8 without
battery backup: Equ pment
connected to these outlets s suppl ed
as soon as the AC cord 2 s
plugged n. They are not affected by
button 13 .
◗ attery backup outlets 9 :
Equ pment connected to these outlets
s suppl ed as soon as button 13 s
pressed and turns green (see f gure
E). These outlets can be turned on
even f the UPS s not connected to
AC power (button 13 flashes).
◗ AC-power disturbance: If AC
power s d sturbed or fa ls, the UPS
cont nues to operate on battery
power. Button 13 flashes green. In
normal mode, the aud o alarm beeps
every ten seconds, then every three
seconds when the end of battery
backup t me s near. In s lent mode
(see the sect on on sett ngs), the
aud o alarm s mply beeps once when
the UPS transfers to battery power.
◗ If the power outage lasts longer than
the battery backup t me, the UPS
shuts down and automat cally restarts
when power s restored. Follow ng a
complete d scharge, a few hours are
requ red to recharge the battery back
to full backup t me.
◗ To save battery power, t s poss ble
to press button 13 to cut the supply
of power to the dev ces connected to
the battery backup outlets.
◗ Surge protection: All outlets,
whether backed up or s mply f ltered,
nclude surge protect on, whatever
the pos t on of button 13 .
◗ Shutdown of the battery backup
outlets 9 : Press button 13 for
more than two seconds.
Battery disposal and
safety
◗ Caution. Battery serv ce l fe s
reduced by 50% for every ten
degrees above 25°C.
◗ The battery must be replaced
exclusively by qualified personnel
(risk of electrocution), w th a new
battery approved by MGE UPS
SYSTEMS to ensure correct
operat on of the UPS.
◗ The battery must be d sposed of n
accordance w th appl cable
regulat ons. To remove the battery,
shut down the UPS (button 13 OFF),
remove the power cord 2 and
proceed as nd cated below.
