VENTILATION –Slotsand openingsinthe cabinet areprovided for
ventilation andtoensurereliableoperation ofthe product. Toprotect the
unitfromoverheating,thoseopeningsmust not be blockedorcovered.
Thisproduct shouldnotbe placedinabuilt-ininstallation, suchasawall
cutout unlessproperventilation isprovided.
WATERAND MOISTURE –Donot placecontainerswithliquidssuchas
coffee, water, sodas, etc.on thisunit. Donotoperatethisequipment ina
wet environment.
CLEANING –If it shouldbecomenecessarytoclean thisequipment,
disconnect theunit fromitspowersourcefirst.Donot useliquidcleaners,
aerosols, and abrasivepads, scouring powdersorsolvents,suchas
benzene oralcohol. Useasoft clothlightlymoistened withamild
detergent solution. Ensurethe surfacecleanedisfullydrybefore
reconnecting power.
HEATING –Donotinstallthisproduct nearheat sourcessuchas
radiators, airducts, areassubject todirect, intensesunlight, orother
productsthat produceheat.
POWERCORD PROTECTION –The powersupplycordforthisproduct
shouldbe routedorinstalled insuchamannertoprotectit frombeing
walked on orpinched. The unit shouldbepowered downcompletely
beforeconnectingordisconnectingthe powercable. Thepowercord
shouldbe removed beforemoving the unit. Thepowercordmustbe
placednearaneasilyaccessibleunobstructedsocketoutlet.

Welcometoelectronicvoting. The worldofthe MicroVote
Infinity!TheMicroVoteInfinityisaseasy touseand understand
asapaperballot.However,itistamper-proofwhen properly
prepared foran election. The Infinityisaccurate:it recordseveryballot cast,
exactlyasit wascast. It isconfidential: Random-orderballot recordinginsuresthat
nobodycantellwho voted forwhom. It isfast: just pushingacoupleof buttonsafter
the pollsclosegivesyou completetotalsinminutes. The MicroVoteInfinityisaleap
forwardinDirect Recording Electronicvotingequipment and that meansalotless
workforyou, theelection official, before,during, and afterthe votingprocess.
MicroVoteInfinityisaDirectRecording Electronic(DRE)voting
machine that storesballots,receives, and recordsvoteswithout
the needtouseotherequipment. Whetheratthe pollsorat the
electionheadquarters,the Infinitydoesitall. And election
resultsareautomaticallytalliedforyourentirepollingsite. MicroVoteInfinitykeeps
three separaterecordsofthe vote: atape printout fromthe voting panel, the
electronic“auditimage”of everyvotecast, andthe tripleredundant electronic
memoryinside theInfinityitself.
The pollworkersimplyinsertsavotingcardintothe machine
and the Infinitydisplays the differentballot stylesavailabletoa
particularprecinct. Thepollworkerthen selectsthe appropriate
ballotstyleforthatparticularvoterbypressingthe graysquare
button next tothe properballot style.The Infinitypanelwillthenpresent tothe voter
the correct ballotstylehe/she isentitledtovotefor.
The pollworkerleavestheboothand letsthe voterproceed.The voterpushesa
button next tothe nameorissue he/she wantstovotefor, andturnsthe ballot
‘pages’withthe NextPage or PreviousPage buttons. When allthechoiceshave
been made, the votercaststheentireballotbypushing onefinalbutton.The
machine itselfguidesthe voter, stepbystep,sothatit’simpossibleforthe voterto
cast aspoiled orinvalidballot.

ordertoopen, operateand closethe polls,andtosecurethe completetallyforyour
precinct. Thesestepsaredetailed inthefollowing pages, step bystep. Pleasetake

Setting Up theVoting Panel
MicroVoteInfinityvoting machinesshouldbe set up insucha
waythat votersfeeltheyhaveenough privacytocast theirvote.
MicroVoterecommendsplacing votingmachinessothat the
voter’sback istoawallwhilevoting. Makesurethatpoweris
available(eitheranoutletorextension cord)withinsixfeet ofthe
votingmachine.
Setting up thevoting machine itselfisasimpleprocedure.Followthe stepson the
next fewpagestoset up eachInfinityvoting paneltobeused onElection Day. One
boothwillhaveahandicap label.Thatisthe panelpervoting location that has
certainfeatureswhichsatisfythe ADA(AmericanswithDisabilitiesAct)
requirements. See Appendix1 located on page 44 foradditionalinstructionstoset-
up thisboothandpanel.
1.Laythe voting boothon aflat surfacewiththe topside up and thecaselatches
facingyou.
2.Open the caseandlift the lid.

3.Lift the Infinitymachine outof the case. Lift themetalsupportbaron thebottom
of the machine and positionthe machine inthevoting booth. The supportbarwill
positionthe Infinitymachine atthe optimumangleforviewingthe screen.
4.Removethe powercordfromthe sub-panel.

5.Connect thepowercordtothe machineand agrounded (3-hole)receptacle. Be
surethe plug ispushed allthe wayintothe machine. Tape downallpowercords
inpotentialtrafficareas.

InitializingtheVoting Panel
Inordertoprovide asecureelection, the Infinitymust be
initialized using anofficialStartCard.Followthe stepsbelowto
initializethe Infinitybeforevoting.
1.Turnthe powerswitchonthe back of thevotingpaneltothe ON position.

4.Whenthe start message disappearsfromthe screen,insert thegreen Start Card
intothe sloton theInfinitypanel. Besuretoline up thearrowson the Start Card
and Infinitypanel.

5.1.If an invalidcode isentered, “SecurityCodeInvalid” will be displayed on
screen andan alarmwillsound. Thiswillrequirethe Start Cardtobe
removed, any button tobe pressed, andthe Start Cardreinserted beforere-
entering the properpassword.

6.The votingpaneldisplays the “StartCardFunctions” screen.Fromthe “Start
CardFunctions” screen, you havethe optiontoperformavarietyof testson the
votingpanel.Most of theseoptionswillnot beused andareincluded brieflyfor

informationalpurposeonly. Step 7continuesthe stepsofinitializing voting
panel.
StartCardFunctionsScreen
6.1.“Check Buttons” allowsmanualtestingof votingpanelbuttons.Witheach
press of abutton, an arrowappearson the panelscreen next tothe button
pressesandthe button numberisdisplayed atthe bottomof the panel
screen. Pressthe CastVote button toexitthisfunction.
6.2.“Check Display” performsatest of the votingpaneldisplay. Pressing this
button, startsapatternof thick black linesscrolling across the panelscreen.

Linesshouldbe black withno gapsinside oflines. Gapswithinthe black
areasarean indication of “dead spots”on display.Press the CastVote
button toexit thisfunction.
6.3.“Show Ballot” allowsthe usertoviewthe ballot. The ballot maynot be
voted uponinthismode. Press the CastVote button toexit thisfunction.
6.4.“PrintZero-Proof” allowsthe usertoprint azeroverification tape toverify
allcandidatescurrentlyhaveno votes. (See detailsinstep 7below)
6.5.“StartElection” changesthevoting panelto “VotingEnabled” mode. (See
detailsinstep 7below)
6.6.“LightenDisplay/ DarkenDisplay” areusedtoadjust the default display
contrast. Press the appropriatebuttonrepeatedlytoadjust. Thiscan be
done on ElectionDay, between voters, onlywhen no ballotisactivated. This
setting can be temporarilyadjusted bythevoterwhilevotingbut willreturnto
the default setting aftereachvoter.
7.Anoptionalzero-proof maybe printed. The electionofficewilldecide whetheror
not tochoosetoprint this. If you havenot beeninstructedtoprint thezero-proof,
skiptostep 8. Toprint zero-proof, followthe stepsbelow.
7.1.Press the button next to PrintZeroProof on the “StartCardFunction”
screen

7.3.Plug thepowercordintotheprinter(DC6.5V2Around port)and intoan
availableoutlet. Theprinterwillalsooperateon arechargeableNi-MH
battery(if sufficientlycharged). However, thesebatteriesmaynot be
charged due totimespent sittingon theshelfbetween elections.
7.4.Connect theprintertothe votingpanelusing the flat graycable.Connectthe
rectangular9-pinconnectortotheserialport onthe back of printer(ifitisnot
alreadyconnected). Connect thephonecordstyleconnectortoeitherthe
front orback port onthe voting panel.
7.5.Turnthe printeron. The powerswitchislocated on theleft side of printer
and shouldbe switchedtothe“I”position.When powered on, the greenlight
on the topof theprintershouldbe lit.If theorange light ontop of printerislit,
the printeris“Offline”and youneed topress the smallersquarebutton to
bring theprinter“Online”.

Whenthe Zero-Proofisdone printing,the panelwillbeepand the
panelwillask you toconfirmwhetherornotthereport printed correctly.
Press YES tocompletethisfunction.
7.7Removethe report bytearingthe paperfromthe printerandstoreaccording
toadministrativeprocedures. Disconnect printerand storeinthe carrying
caseuntilallpollsclose. Storethe carrying caseinasecurelocation.
8.Press the button next to StartElection.
