A Warning and Safety Instructions
1 General Information
Service and repair work should only be carried out by a suitably qualified
electrician (with specialist training, knowledge and experience, and recent
related work experience) in accordance with all appropriate local and national
safety regulations.
Servicing, modification, testing and maintenance of electrical appliances
should only be carried out in accordance with all appropriate legal
requirements, accident prevention regulations and valid standards.
Unless absolutely necessary, e.g., fault finding with supply voltage, working
on a machine connected to the power supply should always be avoided. If
working on a machine with an applied voltage at a potentially dangerous level
is unavoidable, special safety measures must be taken into consideration and
complied with.
Before starting any service work, the machine must be disconnected from the
power supply. Suitable measurements must be made to ensure that this is
the case.
Even with the machine switched off, voltage may be applied to some
components.
A general visual check should always be carried out.
There may be a risk of injury due to protruding parts. Protective goggles
should be worn.
There may be a risk of injury due to sharp edges. Protective gloves should be
worn and the edge protection, mat. no. 05057680, should be used.
2 Induction
Danger!
An electromagnetic field is developed in the immediate surrounding area of an
induction cooktop when it is switched on. Under certain circumstances this
could affect the correct operation of a heart pacemaker. In case of any doubt,
contact the pacemaker manufacturer or your doctor.
Danger!
When checking induction cooktops for correct operation, do not leave
superfluous metal objects on the burner. The magnetic field developed could
cause such objects to heat excessively and could lead to burning.
Warning!
Calculators, computer disks, credit cards or other magnetic data storage media
should not be brought into the immediate proximity of the induction cooktop
when it is switched on as there is a risk of data loss.

3 Touch Current Measurement
Note:
On machines with a ground connection, touch current leakage
measurements should be carried out on all accessible conductive parts that
are not connected to ground.
Warning!
Touch current measurement should only be carried out after the ground
connection of the appliance under test has been checked and found to be
satisfactory! Dangerous voltages may exist on defective machines as well as
on accessible conductive parts that are not connected to ground!

2 Function
2.1 Principle of Induction
Under each burner is an induction coil. When the burner is switched on, the
induction coil creates a high-frequency magnetic field (approximately 20 to 50
kHz) which induces high eddy currents in the base of the pot on the cooktop. The
base is heated rapidly by this effect and the heat produced is transferred virtually
without loss to the food being cooked. The burner itself is not heated by the
induction coil, but is heated indirectly by the heat developed in the pot base.
2.2 Suitable Pots
Induction cooktops can only function with pots with a magnetic base. Unsuitable
pots will not heat up.
The following pot types are suitable:
Stainless steel with a magnetic base.
Enameled steel.
Cast-iron.
The following pot types are not suitable:
Stainless steel with a non-magnetic base.
Aluminum, copper.
Glass, ceramic, earthenware.
2.3 Pot Sensors
Each burner has a pot sensor. This prevents the operation of the induction coil

under the following circumstances:
Without a pot on the burner.
With a pot with a base that is too small.
When a pot unsuitable for use with an induction cooktop is being used.
After switching on a burner (selecting a power level), the power electronic, using
a test power of less than 10 watts, checks whether a change in the magnetic field
has taken place. If this is not the case, the icon (“pot not present”) is shown
alternately with 0in the burner display. If there is no change within 3 minutes (pot
sensor time), the burner is switched off. If no other burner is in operation, the
cooktop switches off.
2.4 Pot-Size Sensor
Each burner matches its output to the diameter of the pot base. The smaller the
diameter of the pot, the lower the power supplied. If the diameter of the pot is
less than the minimum diameter of the burner, the pot is not registered, and
induction does not take place (see also Section 010-2.3).
The given minimum diameters (diameter of flat contact surface) for the pot
sensor function are only approximate. They can vary due to the effects of
material properties and construction of the pot base. Full cooking power can only
be achieved with a suitable pot with good magnetic properties covering the full
burner area.
2.5 Selection Electronic
The selection electronic is located under the front middle of the ceramic surface.
This electronic offers numerous programming possibilities both for the customer
and for the service technician; see Table 010-8.

2.6 Touchpad Sensors
Each touchpad sensor has a transmitter diode and a receiver diode. The
transmitter diode emits infrared waves and when a finger is on the touchpad,
these waves are reflected back to the receiver diode. In this way the appropriate
touchpad sensors are activated.
If one or more touchpads are pressed for longer than 12 seconds, the cooktop is
automatically shut off. Fflashes in the burner display; see Section 010-2.14.
Exceptions:
Activating the lock function
Switching off a burner or timer by simultaneously pressing the - and +
touchpads
Accessing programming mode
The audible confirmation indicator set as standard operates with every touchpad
activation. It can be deactivated in customer programming mode. See Section
010-4.1.
Note:
Touchpads must be kept clean, and cleared of items.
Placing hot pots on the touchpads may cause damage to the underlying
electronic(s).
2.7 Power Levels
The burners are set as standard with 12 power settings.
At switch-on, they are at level 0.

Use the +touchpad to go up from level 1 to 12, or use the -touchpad to go down
from level 12 to 1.
A digital display above the burner and a 12-segment light ring around the burner
show the power level selected (see Figure 010-3).
User-programmable options:
Extension to 23 power levels for finer power level regulation. An LED dot
to the right of the digital display, e.g., 1., indicates the intermediate steps.
Switch-on at power level 6 (only if auto-boost is activated).
2.8 Power Level Control
The various power levels are achieved by constantly modifying the frequency of
the magnetic field. In the lowest power levels the decrease in power is achieved
by pulsed application of the lowest possible magnetic-field frequency.
For 12 power levels:
All burners: Setting 1
For 23 power levels:
10.2-inch (26 cm) burners with 23 power levels - Settings 1 and 1.
5.7, 7.1, 8.3 inch (14.5, 18, 21 cm) burners - Settings 1, 1. and 2
The switching process at these levels can be heard as clicks.
2.9 Booster Function
All burners have a booster function. With the booster function activated, the
burner heats at increased power for a period of 10 minutes (see Table 010-6).

The booster can be added at every power level via touchpad B(Figure 010-4).
The display in the burner shows power level 12.
Additionally, the segment for the booster function lights up (Figure 010-4). After
10 minutes, the burner automatically switches back to the previously selected
power level, and the light segment goes out. If the booster was added at power
level 0, the burner switches back to power level 12.

Note:
The total power consumption of each power electronic is limited to 3700 watts.
Therefore, if a burner is switched on with the booster activated, for the second
burner connected to the same power electronic (front left and rear left, front right
and rear right) the maximum power is reduced to power level 8 or less.
The most recently made setting is taken into consideration.
After the most recently made setting is reduced, the power level for the other
burners can be increased again.
The booster function can be switched off prematurely by
touching touchpad Bagain,
touching the -touchpad for the appropriate burner.
The booster function is automatically switched off if
the temperature of a burner rises above 482°F (250°C) (the fan will also
switch on at maximum speed),
the heat sink temperature rises above 167°F (75°C) (fan is already
operating at maximum speed).
The booster function is blocked if
the temperature of a burner has already exceeded 482°F (250°C),
the heat sink temperature has already exceeded 140°F (60°C).
If an attempt is made to activate the booster function, the indicator segment for
the booster flashes.
2.10 Memory Function
In this feature, up to 5 frequently used cooking modes can be saved as
programs, complete with all options such as auto-boost, power levels and
cooking time. For each burner, one or several programs can be saved. A
program can be up to 99 minutes long and have a maximum of 10 options. At
any given time, only one program can be recorded, or applied.
If the length of the program exceeds 99 minutes, the program memory stops. The
power level indicator of the particular burner flashes “F” for 10 seconds, and the
timer display shows 99. The burner switches off, and the program is not saved.
If an attempt is made to save more than 10 options, the program memory also
stops. The power level indicator of the particular burner flashes “F” for 10
seconds, and the timer display shows 11. The burner switches off, and the
program is not saved.
The program sites are identified as P1 to P5 in the timer display. If a program site
is taken, there will be a decimal point behind the number in the timer display,
e.g., P1., and the timer LED associated with the burner flashes.
The memory function can be used at the same time as the minute minder and/or
automatic shutoff (on different burners). In this case the timer display shows the
function with the shortest remaining time. The timer LED associated with a given
burner flashes, as necessary.

sounds. Select a vacant program slot using the -or +touchpad. Touch pad M
again until a signal tone sounds, first short and then long. Switch the burner
on and start cooking. All steps of the burner taken from this point on and their
precise duration are recorded. During the recording the timer LED associated
with the burner flashes. The recording ends when the burner is switched off
or when touchpad Mis pressed again until a signal tone sounds.
The recording is stopped and not saved
if the stop & go function is activated.
if the entire cooktop is switched off via the main switch .
if the maximum operating time is exceeded (refer to Section 010-2.13).
in the event of a power break or reset.
2. Confirm a memory program: After recording is finished, the program is
shown in fast motion. The burner display shows the programmed levels in
sequence, and the timer display shows the duration (rounded up to minutes)
for each power level. A recorded program can also be viewed later at any
time: Switch the cooktop on. Touch M. Access the desired program by
pressing the -or +touchpads.
If the recorded program is for a burner where cooking is in progress, the
power level set for that burner continues unchanged, while the burner display
shows the levels of the program.
At the end of the program view, the number of the program is shown again
briefly in the timer display and the cooking burner display goes out. If cooking
is in progress, the cooking burner display again shows the power level set.
3. Use a memory program: To use a recorded memory program, the pot, food
amount and surface area of the food have to be the same as when the
program was recorded. Set a pot with food to be cooked onto the (off) burner.
Switch the cooking burner on. Touch M, then use the -or +touchpads to
select the program. Then touch Magain until a signal tone sounds, first short
and then long.
The active burner switches on and then off again at the end of the program
sequence. During the program, the timer LED of the burner flashes, the
burner display shows the respective power level, and in the timer display the
number of the program flashes alternately with the remaining time of the
program. At the end of the program, a signal tone sounds, and the burner
switches off. If a setting of the burner is changed manually during the
program sequence, the program is aborted, and cooking will continue at the
changed setting.
If the stop & go function is activated, the program sequence is stopped; it
continues after stop & go is lifted.
4. Delete a memory program: It is not possible to record over an existing
program. The program has to be deleted to free the program space for a new
entry. To do this, touch Mand access the program to be deleted using the -
or +touchpad. Touch the -and +touchpads at the same time until a long
signal tone sounds and the dot behind the program number goes out.

2.11 Overheating Protection
Burner temperature too high:
If the temperature of a burner rises above 482°F (250°C), the booster function
will be deactivated (if applicable) and then the generated power of the burner is
reduced. The display shows the actual power level, flashing alternately with the
selected power level. If the temperature of the burner rises above 572°F (300°C),
the cooktop switches off, and the display shows the fault code FE99. After the
temperature drops, the burner can be used normally but it does not switch on
again automatically.
Heat sink temperature too high:
If the heat sink temperature rises above 176°F (80°C), all burners are switched
off. The display alternately flashes 0 and the selected power level. Once the heat
sink temperature drops below 176°F (80°C), the burners switch on again and
operate at their initially set power level.
2.12 Residual-Heat Indicator
Each burner has a residual-heat indicator.
If the PTC registers residual heat of more than 140°F after the burner or the
cooktop is shut off, then the residual heat level is indicated via three stacked
horizontal bars, , in the control scale as follows:
PTC temperature over 212°F:
PTC temperature between 176°F and 212°F:
PTC temperature between 140°F and 176°F:
The bars go out one at a time as the burner cools down. The last bar is shut off
when the burner can be touched without risk.
In customer programming, the residual-heat indication can be set to the letter
H.
Warning!
If a fault is registered, the residual-heat indicator is not lit, even if the burner is
hot.
2.13 Safety Shutoff
Each burner is switched off automatically by the electronic after operating for a
maximum number of hours. The maximum operating time depends on the power
level set (refer to Table 010-7). After each power level change it is reset.
