Technical safety
ʊInstallation, maintenance and repair work should only be per
formed by a Miele authorized service technician. Installation, mainte
nance and repair work by unqualified persons can cause considera
ble danger to users.
ʊA damaged cooktop can be dangerous. Always check for visible
signs of damage. Never use a damaged appliance.
ʊReliable and safe operation of the cooktop can only be guaran
teed if it is connected to the public power supply.
ʊThe electrical safety of this cooktop can only be guaranteed when
it is properly grounded. Compliance with this essential safety re
quirement is absolutely necessary. If in any doubt, please have the
building's electrical system checked by a qualified electrician.
ʊTo avoid damaging the cooktop, make sure that the connection
data (voltage and frequency) on the data plate correspond to the
building's power supply before connecting the appliance.
When in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
ʊThe cooktop may only be combined with the ovens specified by

pletely cooled down.

Warning and safety instructions
9
Proper use
ʊThe cooktop gets hot when in use and remains hot for a while af
ter being turned off. A burn hazard is present until the residual heat
indicators go out.
ʊWhen in use, the cooktop emits a significant amount of heat,
which could cause objects in the vicinity to catch fire.
Never use the cooktop to heat the room.
ʊOil and fat can catch fire if overheated. Never leave the cooktop
unattended when cooking with oil and fat. If the oil or fat catches
fire, do not attempt to put the flames out with water.
Turn off the cooktop and smother the flames using a lid or a suitable
fire blanket.
ʊThe flames could set the grease filters of a ventilation hood on
fire. Do not flambé under a hood.
ʊSpray canisters, aerosols and other flammable substances can ig
nite when heated. Therefore, do not store such items or substances
in a drawer under the cooktop. Any cutlery inserts must be heat-re
sistant.
ʊNever heat empty cookware.
ʊDo not heat or can food in closed containers, such as tins or
sealed jars, on the cooktop, as pressure will build up in the container
and cause it to explode.
ʊIf the cooktop is covered, there is a risk that the material of the
cover will ignite, explode or melt if the range is still hot or if it is
turned on inadvertently. Never cover the appliance with a cover,
cloth or protective foil.
ʊIf the cooktop is on or accidentally turned on, or if it is still hot,
metal objects on the cooktop can heat up. Other items may melt or
catch fire. Damp lids can become attached to the cooktop by suc
tion. Do not store items on the cooktop. Always turn the burners off
after use.

Warning and safety instructions
10
ʊYou can burn yourself on a hot cooktop. When cooking on the
cooktop, protect your hands by using heat-resistant pot holders or
oven mitts. Only use dry pot holders and oven mitts. Wet or damp
textiles conduct heat more effectively and produce steam, which
poses a burn hazard.
ʊWhen using an electrical appliance, e.g. a hand mixer, near the
cooktop, make sure that the power cable does not come into con
tact with the hot cooktop. The cable's insulation could become
damaged.
ʊGrains of salt, sugar and sand (e.g. from cleaning vegetables) can
cause scratches if they get onto pan bottoms. Make sure that the
ceramic surface and pan bottom are clean before placing any pans
on the cooktop.
ʊEven light objects (such as a salt shaker) can cause damage to
the ceramic cooktop in certain circumstances. Do not drop anything
on the ceramic surface.
ʊHot objects on the residual heat indicators can cause damage to
the electronics underneath. Do not place hot pans in these areas.
ʊDo not allow solid or liquid sugar, or pieces of plastic or aluminum
foil, to get on the cooktop when it is hot, as they can damage the
ceramic surface when it cools down. If this should occur, turn off the
appliance immediately and scrape off all the sugar, plastic or alumi
num residues while still hot using a scraper blade. Wear oven mitts
when doing so. Allow the burners to cool down and clean them with
a suitable ceramic cleaning agent.
ʊPans that boil dry can damage the ceramic surface. Never leave
the cooktop unattended during use.
ʊPots and pans with rough bottoms can scratch the ceramic sur
face. Only use pots and pans that are smooth on the bottom.
ʊLift pans into position on the cooktop. Sliding them into place can
cause scuff marks and scratches.

Warning and safety instructions
11
ʊCookware made of plastic or aluminum foil will melt high tempera
tures. Do not use any plastic or aluminum foil cookware.
ʊThe cooktop trim or edge (in the case of bevelled cooktops) can
become hot due to the following factors: operating time, high output
settings, large cookware, and number of burners in use.
ʊCookware that is made of aluminum or has an aluminum bottom
can leave behind shiny metallic spots. These spots can be removed
with ceramic and stainless steel cleaner (see "Cleaning and care").
ʊIf spills or splatters are allowed to remain on the cooktop for any
length of time, they can bake onto the cooktop, and it may not be
possible to remove them. Remove spills and splatters immediately.
Also make sure that the bottom of any cookware is clean, dry, and
free of grease before placing it on the cooktop.
Cleaning and care
ʊDo not use a steam cleaner to clean the cooktop.
The steam could reach electrical components and cause a short cir
cuit.

Caring for the environment
12
Disposal of the packaging ma‐
terial
The cardboard box and packaging ma
terials protect the appliance during
shipping. They have been designed to
be biodegradable and recyclable.
Recycling the packaging reduces the
use of raw materials in the manufactur
ing process and also reduces the
amount of waste in landfill sites. You
can return the packaging to your Miele
dealer.
Disposing of your old appli‐
ance
Old electrical and electronic equipment
often still contain valuable materials.
However, they may also include harmful
substances that were essential for
proper functioning and safe use. Im
properly disposing of these items in
your household waste can be harmful
to your health and the environment.
Therefore, please do not dispose of
your old appliance in your regular
household waste.
Instead, use your local community
waste collection and recycling centre
for electric and electronic appliances.
Contact your dealer for more informa
tion.
Ensure that your old appliance does not
pose a danger to children while being
stored for disposal.

Using for the first time
15
ĺPlease affix the extra appliance data
plate supplied with this documenta
tion in the space provided in the "Af
ter-sales service, data plate, warran
ty" section of this manual.
ĺRemove any protective foil and stick
ers from the cooktop.
Cleaning the cooktop for the
first time
ĺBefore using it for the first time, wipe
down the cooktop with a damp cloth
and then wipe it dry.
Turning on the cooktop for the
first time
The cooktop's metal components are
protected by a conditioning agent.
Smells and vapor may occur when the
appliance is used for the first time.
The smell and any vapors that may oc
cur do not indicate a faulty connection
or defective appliance and are not
harmful to your health.

How the burners work
16
Standard burners have one heating
band, and variable burners and casser
ole areas have two heating bands. De
pending on the model, the heating
bands may be separated by a ring.
Each burner features overheat protec
tion (internal temperature limiter), which
prevents the ceramic surface from over
heating (see "Overheat protection").
When a power level is set, heating is
activated and the heating band is visi
ble through the ceramic surface. The
heat output of the burners depends on
the power level set and is controlled
electronically. This causes the "cycling"
of a burner: the heating is turned on
and off.

Cookware
17
The most suitable cookware is metal
pots and pans with thick bottoms that,
when cold, bulge slightly inward. On
warming, the bottom expands and rests
flat on the burner; this conducts the
heat optimally.
Cold Hot
Glass, ceramic or stoneware is less
suitable. These materials do not con
duct the heat well.
Cookware made of plastic or aluminum
is not suitable. These melt at high tem
peratures.
Cookware that is made of aluminum or
has an aluminum bottom can leave be
hind shiny metallic spots. These spots
can be removed with ceramic and
stainless steel cleaner (see "Cleaning
and care").
Pots and pans with rough bottoms can
scratch the ceramic surface. Only use
pots and pans that are smooth on the
bottom.
Lift pans into position on the cooktop.
Sliding them into place can cause scuff
marks and scratches.
The maximum diameter indicated by
manufacturers will often refer to the di
ameter of the top rim of the pot or pan.
The diameter of the base (generally
smaller) is more important.

Energy saving tips
18
– Make sure that the bottoms of pots
or pans either match the size of the
burner or are somewhat larger. This
ensures that heat from the burner is
not wasted.
– Whenever possible, keep pots and
pans covered while cooking. Doing
so will prevent unnecessary heat
loss.
– For small quantities, select a small
pan. A small pan on a small burner
uses less energy than a large, only
partially filled pan on a large burner.
– Cook with as little water as possible.
– Once food has come to the boil or
the pan is hot for frying, reduce the
heat to a lower power setting.
– When cooking for a longer amount of
time, turn the burner off at least 5 to
10 minutes before the end of the
cooking time. This makes use of the
residual heat.
– Use a pressure cooker to reduce the
cooking time.

reached after a burner, for example the
left front, has been turned on, the corre
sponding residual heat indicator lights
up:
When the burner cools down to a
specified temperature after being
switched off, the residual heat indicator
goes out.
If extremely hot cookware remains
on the burner for a longer amount of
time after the burner is switched off,
the burner may still be hot, even
though the residual heat indicator is
no longer on.
ɘBurn hazard. Do not touch the
burners while the residual heat indi
cators are on.
Hot objects on the residual heat indi
cators can damage the electronics
underneath.
NEVER place hot pots or pans in this
area.
