This Electrobrush conforms to
current safety requirements.
Incorrect use can, however, present
a risk of both personal injury and
material damage.
To avoid the risk of accidents and
damage to the vacuum cleaner and
to the brush please read these
operating instructions, as well as the
instructions supplied with the
vacuum cleaner, before using this
appliance for the first time.
Keep these instructions in a safe
place, and make them available to
future users.
Correct use
The Miele Electrobrush is a motor
driven accessory appliance for use
only with Miele vacuum cleaners. It
must not be used with vacuum cleaners
produced by other manufacturers.
The Electrobrush must only be
used for household purposes to
vacuum and brush dry floor surfaces.
Do not use on people or animals.
Any other use, modification or alteration
to the brush is at the owner’s risk and
could be dangerous.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable
for damage resulting from improper or
incorrect use of the appliance.
Technical safety
Before using the Electrobrush
for the first time, ensure that the
connection data on the data plate
(voltage and frequency) match the
mains electricity supply. It is essential
that they match to avoid damage to the
appliance.
Do not use the Electrobrush if it
shows any sign of damage.
A damaged appliance could be
dangerous.
Always disconnect the vacuum
cleaner from the mains supply
when you have finished using it as well
as for maintenance work and cleaning.
Switch off at the wall socket and
remove the plug.
Do not let the appliance get wet.
Clean with a dry or slightly damp
cloth when disconnected from the
mains supply. If moisture gets into the
appliance there is the risk of an electric
shock.
Safety with children
Do not let children play with the
appliance or its controls. Supervise
its use by older children and the elderly
or infirm.

Use
Never touch the roller brush while
it is rotating. Danger of injury.
Do not use the Turbobrush at head
level. Long hair, ties, scarves etc.
could be vacuumed in and become
entangled in the roller brush.
Keep the Electrobrush away from
curtains, clothing etc, as these
could be vacuumed in and become
entangled in the roller and possibly get
damaged.
Do not vacuum up items which are
heavy, hard or have sharp edges.
They could block the Electrobrush and
the vacuum cleaner and cause
damage.
Do not vacuum up ashes or coal,
whether glowing or apparently
extinguished. The Electrobrush and
the vacuum cleaner might catch fire.
Do not vacuum up any inflammable
or combustible liquids or gases
and do not vacuum in areas where
such substances are stored. Danger of
explosion.
Do not vacuum up any water, liquid
or damp dirt. This will cause major
faults and could seriously impair the
functioning and electrical safety of the
vacuum cleaner and the Electrobrush.
Danger of electric shock! Wait until any
freshly cleaned or shampooed carpets
or floor coverings are completely dry
before attempting to vacuum.
Blocked roller warning light
The indicator light on the Electrobrush
has two functions.
The light is
–green when the Electrobrush is
switched on.
–red, if the roller brush is blocked
(blocked roller warning light), for
example, when a large object has
been vacuumed up.
^Disconnect the vacuum cleaner from
the electricity supply immediately the
red light comes on. Switch off at the
wall socket and remove the plug.
^Remove the cause of the obstruction,
see "Cleaning and care".
Then wait for about two minutes, before
switching the cleaner back on again.
This allows the blocked roller warning
indicator to re-set itself.
Disposing of an old appliance
When disposing of an old
Electrobrush first make it unusable.
Make appropriate arrangements
for its safe disposal.
The manufacturer cannot be held
liable for damage caused by
non-compliance with these Warning
and Safety instructions.

Operating instructions
These operating instructions are for
Electrobrush models:
1. SEB 217 for hand-held vacuum
cleaners and
2. SEB 215 / SEB 216 for cylinder
vacuum cleaners.
The illustrations referred to in the text
are shown at the end of the operating
instructions.
Using the Electrobrush
The Electrobrush is particularly suitable
for intensive vacuuming of carpets
which are subject to hard wear. It is
very effective at removing deep seated
dirt and preventing areas of frequent
use being trodden into a path.
A separate motor drives the
Electrobrush roller brush and four
rollers maintain the brush 1.5 mm away
from the floor. The normal floorhead or
one of the Miele floorbrushes should be
used for cleaning hard floors, such as
tiled or parquet floors.
It is also important to observe the
flooring manufacturer’s cleaning and
care instructions.
The following should not be
vacuumed using the Electrobrush:
–Floor surfaces with a variable or
uneven profile. The brush might
come into contact with the floor
and cause damage.
–Carpets such as saxony with very
long-pile, berber and sheepskin
rugs, and valuable hand-knotted
carpets, e.g. Persian and similar.
There is a danger of the threads
being pulled out. If in doubt, contact
the carpet manufacturer/retailer.
Using the Electrobrush
^To achieve the best effect, pass the
Electrobrush slowly backwards and
forwards over the carpet or floor
covering. For carpets with fringes,
always draw the Electrobrush from
the carpet across the fringe towards
the rest of the floor.
10
Connecting the Electrobrush
to the vacuum cleaner
Connect the Electrobrush to the
vacuum cleaner as shown in the
illustrations at the end of the operating
instructions.
Hand-held vacuum cleaner - see
illustration a
Cylinder vacuum cleaner - see
illustration b
This illustration shows connection to an
S 300 / S 400 series vacuum cleaner as
an example.
The position of the socket for connec-
ting the Electrobrush will depend on the
vacuum cleaner model.
For S 500 / S 600 / S 700 / S 800 and
S 5000 vacuum cleaners the
protective cap must be removed from
the socket: see illustration cand d.
For SEB 216-3 (see illustration d)
This Electrobrush is easily removed
enabling one of the other accessories
to be used.
^Press the release button and pull the
suction tube with plug connector out
of the Electrobrush.
The cable will remain on the suction
tube.
Cable
When the Electrobrush is connected to
a cylinder vacuum cleaner, the cable
must be secured to the telescopic tube
and to the suction hose. Nine clips are
supplied for this:
–two for securing the cable to the
telescopic tube (already in position)
–seven for running the cable along the
suction hose (these can be adjusted)
^Fit the clips to the suction hose
leaving approximately the same
distance between each clip.
Switching on and off
The Electrobrush is operated in
conjunction with the vacuum cleaner.
Some models, however, are fitted with a
switch which allows the Electrobrush to
be switched on and off separately.
Warning light
The warning light on the Electrobrush is
green when the Electrobrush is
switched on.
If the warning light on the
Electrobrush is red, there is a
blockage in the roller, see "Warning
and Safety instructions, Blocked
roller warning light".
11
Always disconnect the vacuum
cleaner from the electrical supply
for maintenance work and cleaning.
Switch off at the wall socket and
remove the plug.
Removing threads and hairs
(illustrations e,fand g)
^Cut any threads or hairs that have
become entangled on the roller brush
with a pair of scissors. Then run the
vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the
bits.
For more obstinate tangles or
blockages inside the Electrobrush, the
cover can be opened.
^Loosen the two locking screws on the
underside of the brush with a small
coin, and take off the roller cover.
The roller brush can now be taken out
of its supports and cleaned. The
compartment interior can also be
cleaned.
When re-fitting the roller brush
please note the following
(see illustration h)
There are notches on the supports.
With a new roller brush:
Fit the supports so that the single notch
points towards the roller cover, (see left
hand illustration). The bristles protrude
approx. 2 mm. This is important for the
brushing effect. When the bristles are
slightly worn out:
^Fit the supports so that two notches
point towards the roller cover, (see
right hand illustration).
^Put the roller cover back on and
close it, (see illustration i).
^Tighten the locking screws. If the
bristles are totally worn out, a
replacement roller brush can be
purchased through your Miele Dealer
or the Spare Parts Dept.
Replacing the drive belt
(illustrations jand k)
The housing must be opened to fit a
new drive belt.
^Remove roller cover a(as already
described) and lift roller brush boff
its supports.
^Unscrew fixing screws cfrom the
brush base section d, and separate
the base section from top section e.
^Fit a new drive belt.
^Reassemble the Electrobrush by
reversing the procedure.
Replacing the connection
cable
If the connection cable for this
appliance is damaged it must be
replaced by a connection cable
specifically designed for this
appliance. Please contact your
Miele dealer, or the Miele Spare
Parts Dept.
