Contact the Mindray Service Department and obtain a Mindray Customer Service
Authorization Number. The Mindray Customer Service Authorization Number must
appear on the outside of the shipping container. Return shipments will not be
accepted if the Mindray Customer Service Authorization Number is not clearly visible.
Please provide the model number, serial number, and a brief description of the
reason for return.
2. Freight policy
The customer is responsible for freight charges when this product is shipped to
Mindray for service (including any relevant customs fees or other freight related
charges).
3. Return address
Please send the part(s) or equipment to the address offered by Customer Service
Department.

Mindray maintains a network of service representatives and factory-trained distributors.
Prior to requesting service, perform a complete operational check of the instrument to
verify proper control settings. If operational problems continue to exist, contact Mindray
service.

Please include the instrument model number, the serial number, and a description of the
problem with all requests for service.

Preface
Manual Purpose
This manual provides detailed information about the assembly, disassembly, testing and
troubleshooting of the equipment to support effective troubleshooting and repair. It is
not intended to be a comprehensive, in-depth explanation of the product architecture or
technical implementation. Use of the manual is necessary for proper equipment
maintenance and will help to eliminate equipment damage and personal injury.
This manual is based on the maximum configuration; therefore, some contents may not
apply to your monitor. If you have any question, please contact our Customer Service
Department.
Intended Audience
This manual is for biomedical engineers, authorized technicians or service representatives
responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining the patient monitors.
Contact your local Mindray Service Organization for information on product courses
which address service and support for this product.
Passwords
A password may be required to access different modes within the monitor. The
passwords are listed below:
User maintenance: MIN888 (User adjustable)
Configuration mode: MIN315 (User adjustable)
It is recommended that the user should change the passwords for user maintenance and
configuration mode once they take ownership of the equipment.

1.2.2 WARNING
WARNING
Only personnel authorized by Mindray can disassemble the monitor.
To avoid electric shock, disconnect the AC power supply and remove the
battery before disassembling the monitor.
Perform the patient leakage current test on a reassembled parameter
module before using it for monitoring.
Connect the monitor only to a properly installed power outlet with
protective earth contacts. If a protective earth conductor is not provided,
operate it on battery power, if possible.
Dispose of package materials as per the local laws or applicable waste
control regulations of the hospital, and keep them out of children's reach.
1.2.3 CAUTION
CAUTION
When performing performance tests on the monitor, make sure the
monitor is not exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Mobile phones, X-ray
equipment or MRI devices are possible sources of interference as they may
emit higher levels of electromagnetic radiation.
Before connecting the monitor to the power line, check that the voltage
and frequency ratings of the power line are the same as those indicated on
the monitor's label or in this manual.
Protect the monitor from damage caused by drop, impact, strong vibration
or other mechanical force.
Use only parts and accessories specified in this manual.

2Theory of Operation
2.1 Overview
The monitor:
Measures and displays the physiological parameters of the patient, and
supports the review, storage and printing of the measured data.
Provides audible and visual alarm indications in case of patient or equipment
problems.
Incorporates multiple input devices such as buttons, knob, and touchscreen.
Enables software upgrade over the network.
The monitor and its peripherals form a system. Main functions of the monitor in the
system are as follows:
Supports features such as physiological parameter monitoring, alarm, and data
review;
Supports recorder output;
Supports the nurse call signal;
Supports connection via Wi-Fi and wired networks for other bed browsing and
CMS communication;
Supports external AC power supply and battery; and
Supports clinical data collection via USB flash drive.

2.2 Connectors for Peripheral Devices
2.2.1 Connectors for VS9 Peripheral Devices
1. Equipotential ground end: When other devices are used together with this monitor,
use a wire to connect the equipotential ground end of this monitor to equipotential
ground ends of other devices to eliminate the earth potential difference between
them to guarantee safety.
2. USB connector: It is used to connect barcode scanner, USB flash drive and other
equipment.
3. Network connector: The standard RJ45 connector is used to communicate with
external equipment, including: CMS, Gateway communication, patient data export,
and system upgrades.
4. Multi-function connector: It is used to connect to the nurse call system of the
hospital. It supports the connection of external equipment through the DIAP
protocol.

2.2.2 Connectors for VS8 Peripheral Devices
1. Multi-function connector: It is used to connect to the nurse call system of the
hospital. It supports the connection of external equipment through the DIAP
protocol.

NOTE

2.3 Block Diagram of Hardware System
The VS series vital sign monitors have a main unit. The differences between VS9 and VS8
are shown as follows:
Screen
VS9 is equipped with a 10.1-inch 1280x800 flat touch screen;
VS8 is equipped with an 8-inch 1024x768 screen that supports rotary
encoder, key operation, and optional touch screen.
Modules:
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth module, built-in recorder, etc. are optional. Only VS9
supports the CO2module.
