There is a risk of electric shock or burn.
Do not remove the cover.

Precautions for relocation
When relocating the product, there is a risk of injury, product dam-
age, or reduced measuring accuracy.
Please handle the product with care when relocating it.

your hands pinched)
The loading arm moves up and down with the button on the display
unit, the start key, and the stop key. Do not insert your hands or
arms between the indenter and anvil (specimen-measuring part) or
between the loading arm and the cover of the main unit.

The leveling bolt part operates by using a wrench on the bolt at the
bottom of the testing machine.

Safety Precautions
Read "Safety Precautions" thoroughly before operating the product.
These safety precautions include such information as to prevent an injury to the operator and other
persons or damage to property. Be sure to observe the precautions.
■Safety precautions regarding LED lamps
An LED lamp is used in the illumination unit. To use this product safely, observe the following precau-
tions.
WARNING
In rare cases, users may experience symptoms such as an epileptic seizure or loss of consciousness if they are
exposed to the intense light emissions or look at the blinking light. If you have had such symptoms or you have
close family members who have had such symptoms, consult your doctor before operating this product. If you
exhibit such symptoms while using this product, immediately stop operation and move away from the product.
Then see a doctor for a medical examination.
CAUTION
• Followingproceduresforcontrolling,adjusting,andexecutingotherthanthosespeciedhereinmayresultin
hazardous radiation exposure.
• The following standards have been established as safety standards for LED light sources.
• EN62471: 2008 "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems"
• JIS C 7550: 2011 "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems"
• ThisproductisclassiedinRiskGroup1(Lowrisk)orlowerriskgroupsaccordingtothestandards.
• Do not look directly at the LED light emissions. Do not look even when no light is being emitted.
• Do not observe LED light emissions directly through an optical device that concentrates light, such as a
magnifying lens.
• Whentestingaworkpiecethathasamirror-nishedsurface,donotlookintolightreectedo󰀨thework-
piece's surface.
• Whentestingareasthateasilyreectlight,avoidlookingatthetestingsurface.
• The light will not damage human skin even if the skin is exposed to the light.
• Thelampsusedforthisinstrumentaredesignedforaspecicpurpose,andthereforetheyarenotsuitable
for indoor lighting for household use.

■General safety precautions

Otherwise, during work the product could start running unintentionally, causing an accident or electric shock.

This product is a class I device, so be sure to provide protective grounding.
Otherwise, it could cause electric shock or product damage.
Forinformationaboutthepowersourceorelectricalwork,contactalicensedelectricianorotherqualiedindi-
vidual.
WARNING
Properly ground the power line that is connected to the main body of this product. When connecting to other
instruments, be sure that all the instruments are properly grounded at the power supply with a complete ground
terminal, and then connect the signal cables between them.
Otherwise, it could cause electric shock or product damage.
WARNING
Use only the power cable that is supplied with this product.
Otherwise, it could cause electric shock or product damage.
If there is a problem with the power cable or the power connector, contact Mitutoyo. Repairs such as part re-
placementshouldbeperformedonlybyaqualiedMitutoyoserviceengineer.
WARNING
Place the specimen on the stage gently. Do not forcefully strike the specimen stage.
Striking the specimen stage could cause an injury or an accident due to breakage of the part.
WARNING
For personal protective equipment, wear the following items. Also, for other clothing, refer to the Instruction
Manual.

• Protective eyewear
• Protective gloves

Replace the indenter or specimen while watching out for unexpected movements of this product.
Otherwise, it could cause injury.

Take special shielding measures when using this product in the following locations:
• In locations subject to electric noise, such as from static electricity
• Inlocationssubjecttostrongelectricelds
• In locations near power supply lines/power lines
• In locations that may be exposed to radiation
• In locations that may be exposed to corrosive gases
Otherwise, it could cause injury.

Do not remove the covers on this product. This product is a precisely adjusted hardness testing machine. This

Removing the covers could cause an accident or performance deterioration.

■Product applications and handling
●This product is a hardness testing machine.
Do not use this product for any purposes other than hardness test.
●This is an industrial product.
Do not use this product for any purposes other than industrial applications.
●This product is precision equipment.
Handle this product with care. Do not apply excessive shock or force to any of the parts during opera-
tion.
■Installation environment

■Power cable
Use only the power cable that is supplied with this machine. If there is a problem with the power cable or
the power connector, contact Mitutoyo. Repairs such as part replacement should be performed only by
aqualiedMitutoyoserviceengineer.
■Removing of the cover, disassembling this product
This product is a precisely adjusted hardness testing machine and contains high-voltage electronic com-
ponents internally. Never remove the cover of this product to prevent accidents and maintain maximum
performance.

■Preventing danger
To prevent danger, do not use the product in areas where volatile gases may be released.
■Maintenance
Gentlywipedirto󰀨oftheproductwithasoft,tightlywovencloth.Ifdirtisdi󰀩culttoremove,wipethe
dirto󰀨withaclothsoakedinaneutraldetergent,andthengentlywipetheproductwithadryclothor
a cloth that is tightly wrung after being soaked in water. Do not use organic solvents such as thinner or
benzine.
■Take special shielding measures when using this product in the following
locations:
yIn locations subject to electric noise, such as from static electricity
yInlocationssubjecttostrongelectricelds
yIn locations near power supply lines/power lines
yIn locations that may be exposed to radiation
yIn locations that may be exposed to corrosive gases
■Be aware of unexpected movements of the machine when replacing
workpieces.
Pay close attention to ensure that you are not injured by unexpected movements of the machine when
replacing the indenter or specimen.
■Magnetisme󰀨ect
Thishardnesstestingmachinemaynotcorrectlyobtaintestresultsduetotheinuenceofmagnetic
forces.
■Be careful not to move workpieces that weigh 18 kg or more by yourself.
Do not move workpieces that exceed 18 kg by yourself for safety reasons.
■Relocation
This product is heavy (approx. 70 kg). In addition, Mitutoyo should handle unloading, transport, and
installationbecausetheaccuracyneedstobeveriedandadjustedafterinstallation.
yNever attempt to relocate the main unit of the testing machine yourself.
yThe necessary accuracy may be lost due to vibrations or impacts during transport.
Mitutoyo needs to verify and adjust the accuracy after relocation.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
This product complies with the EU EMC Directive. Note that in environments where electromagnetic
interferenceexceedsEMCrequirementsdenedinthisdirective,appropriatecountermeasuresare
required to assure product performance.
This product is an industrial product, and is not intended to be used in residential environment. If this
product is used in residential environment, this product may cause electromagnetic interference with
other instruments. In such a case, it is required to take appropriate measures for preventing such elec-
tromagnetic interference.

2.9 Executing the Test
Execute the test.
CAUTION
When operating the specimen stage, do not put your hands or under the indenter. They may become
pinched.
1 Touch the home tab of the "condition setup" tab block.

2 Slowly turn the up/down handle clockwise until the automatic brake engages and the up/down
