Removal:
Caution: To prevent eye injury, wear safety glasses when using this tool.
Note: When servicing a U-Joint, it is necessary to press one yoke off the bearing
cross then repeat the same process to remove the second yoke from the cross. To simplify
these instructions, the steps will only show the removal/installation of one yoke. Repeat these
directions for the second side.
1: Remove axle or drive shaft from vehicle. Refer to the owners or shop manual for
this procedure.
2: Depending on the make and model you are
working on, the 4 retaining clips will be located
either on the inside of the U-Joint or the outside.
Remove clips as outlined in your service manual.
3: Select the correct size adaptor and drive tip for your application. The inside diam-
eter of the adaptor should be slightly larger than the outside diameter of the U-Joint
bearing cup. The outside diameter of the drive tip should be slightly smaller than the
outside diameter of the U-Joint bearing cup.

Installation
4: Lubricate the threads of the drive bolt with a
light coat of grease. Place the assembly into the
U-Joint press and, if necessary, adjust the two
outside guide bolts to accommodate the size of
the U-Joint. Ensure that the guide bolts are ad-
justed to the same length. Thread the drive bolt
down and begin to press out the bearings. Make
sure that the lower bearing is centered in the
adaptor. This process should not take too much
pressure.
5: Repeat this procedure on the other side and
remove the yoke from the U-Joint.
1: Liberally grease all of the needle bearings in the new cups. Install the bearing
cross into the yoke and insert one of the bearings. Take care not to displace any of
the internal needle bearings. Place the U-joint in the press and push the bearing into
place. It’s good practice to press the rst bearing slightly past the clip groove and
then install the rst clip. This will allow you to press the second bearing into place
and be sure it is located correctly.
2: Flip the assembly over and install the second cup. Press the cup in until you can
see the clip ring is exposed and install the clip. Carefully inspect the position of all
the cups and that all of the clips are completely seated. Move the U-Joint through its
range of motion to make sure everything is assembled correctly. Reinstall into the
vehicle according to the service manual.
Note: This tool is designed to be used as both
a punch and a press. If the U-Joint is stuck or
requires a lot of effort on the main screw, use
a brass hammer and strike the top of the main
screw to jar the U-Joint loose. MAKE SURE
YOU REMOVED ALL THE CLIPS!!!!
