This manual applies to digital mobile radios,unless otherwise specified. It includes instructions for
installing the motorcycle antenna on the motorcycle enclosure.
CAUTION: These servicing instructions are for the use of qualified personnel only. To reduce
the risk of electric shock, do not service parts other than those contained in the Operating
Instructions unless you are qualified to do so. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Antenna Overview
The motorcycle antenna is supplied with a coaxial lead-in cable and connector.
Motorcycle radio antennas are intended for mounting on the top cover of a weather-resistant enclosure
used with the mobile radio. The antenna has a base designed for mounting to a thick surface. The
following table lists the available motorcycle radio antenna.

CAUTION: To comply with FCC regulations when installing the antenna lead-in cable, DO NOT
shorten the cable.
NOTE: To comply with FCC requirements, do not exceed the maximum radio power level at the
antenna port of 18 W.
CAUTION: When unscrewing the antenna, advise the radio owner to unscrew the upper
antenna assembly at the knurled section (bottom). Be sure only the upper section, not the
locking nut is removed. If the locking nut should loosen, retighten it securely against the
mounting surface.

Installation
The installation procedure in this chapter is for a typical motorcycle. The procedure may vary slightly
with the type of motorcycle on which the antenna is to be installed. Generally, however, the procedure
outlined below is universal in nature.
2.1
Required Tools and Materials
The following tools and materials are needed to properly install the motorcycle radio antennas:
• 10 in. adjustable wrench, or 1 in. open-end wrench
• 15/16 in. open-end wrench
• Antenna hole-cutting tool, Motorola Solutions RPX-4378A
• Center punch
• Crimping tool 66-80388A26
• Hammer
• Large hand drill
• Pliers
• Round file
• Side cutters
• Soldering station and solder
2.2
Assembling the Coaxial Connector
CAUTION: To comply with FCC regulations, do not trim or shorten the lead-in cable
Prerequisites: Assemble the antenna cable connector before installing the antenna lead-in cable in
the weather resistant enclosure.
Use the Motorola Solutions crimping tool (part number 66-80388A26) for the following procedure.
