This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to
Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide a reasonable protection against harmful

CISPR 22 Compliance
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for Class A information technology
equipment, per C.I.S.P.R. Publication 22. The limits for Class A equipment are derived for typical commercial
establishments for which a 30 meter protection distance is used. The class A limits may be too liberal for
domestic establishments and some residential areas. Shielded I/O cables must be used when operating this
equipment.

Introduction
The Motorola DSR-6050 Integrated Receiver/Transcoder is capable of transcoding MPEG-
4 HD services into a MPEG-2 HD service output. After properly setting up the DSR-6050,
it can receive authorization and control information from the satellite encoder operator.
This document describes the features and operational constraints of DSR-6050 firmware
version 1C4. This version is a downloadable upgrade to DSR-6050 units containing
firmware 1AC, 1B4, 1BE, and 1C2.
Newly Introduced/Changed Features
•Introduces bug fix to alleviate potential loss of MPEG-2 Gig-E transport stream
output, associated with input transport corruption conditions.
•Introduces bug fix to alleviate potential excessive lip sync delay in MPEG-2 output,
associated with input transport corruption conditions.
•Introduces bug fix to support auto-negotiation rates to 100 Mbps on 10/100
Ethernet port.
•Further optimizes previous bug fix to alleviate potential loss of audio on MPEG-2
output, associated with input transport corruption conditions.
•Optimizes IRD output robustness to RF anomalies when using DVB-S2 8PSK
modulation modes.

loss of MPEG-2 ASI transport stream that can be experienced by some units over

#1 outputs original MPEG-4 transport stream. ASI #2 outputs transcoded MPEG-2

•Support for 708 Closed Captioning
•Security features include Motorola DigiCipher® II security technology.
•A variable front-end allows the DSR-6050 to be used in either full or partial
transponder mode.
•Support for L-band frequency of 950 to 2150 MHz and FEC 5/11, 1/2, 3/5, 2/3, 3/4,
4/5, 5/6, and 7/8 (QPSK); 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 8/9, 9/10 (DVB-S2)
•DTMF output and relay control of tape machines and other ad insertion equipment.
•Composite video output for confidence monitoring

•Form-C relay used for fault alarm indication and ad insertion
•Satellite background firmware download
•The DSR-6050 is capable of storing multiple Virtual Channel Tables (VCTs) so
that the unit can be moved to various satellites/transponders. One VCT may be
selected at a time.
•Once the IRD has acquired an MPEG signal, the user can select a program from a
list of programs as defined in the Program Association Table (PAT).
•Recalls previous operating configuration when power is cycled
•Gig-E output for transcoded MPEG-2 HD transport stream
•Digital Storage Medium Command and Control (DSMCC) data support via Gig-E
•SNMP support for remote control and monitor
Operational Constraints - Expected to be resolved in future releases
•The current implementation of Gig-E supports multi-cast destination addressing
only.
•The Gig-E output rate is fixed at 1000 Mb in the current implementation and does
not auto-negotiate transport stream rates.
•Channel changes can take longer then 15 seconds under certain network conditions
•8PSK DVB-S2 demodulation supports Pilot Tones “On”
•Satellite firmware download is not recommended on services containing sub-title
data.
