SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Before starting the installation, make sure that the car ignition is off.
2. Make sure that the operation of the carkit will never influence your safety.
3. Make sure not to damage electrical cables, fuel or brake lines or safety equipment during the installation.
4. Make sure not to impact the steering or braking system or other key systems essential for the proper operation of the
car when installing the carkit. Make sure that the deployment of the airbags is not blocked or impaired in any way.
5. The carkit may only be used at an operating voltage of 12V with the minus pole earthed. Failure to observe this require-
ment may result in damage to the car’s electronics system.
6. Do not operate your carkit off the car battery for a long time, i.e. with the engine switched off, as this may cause your
battery to run dry.

DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
HANDSFREE UNIT (SM3)
The handsfree unit includes built-in speaker, echo canceller, noise suppressor, DSP technology and Bluetooth®wireless
technology, which provides a wireless connection with Bluetooth®mobile phones.
The handsfree unit has the following jacks for connecting external units:
1. Socket for remote control (RC1) cable.
2. Microphone socket M1.
3. Socket for external speaker connection (3-6W, min 8 Ohm). When the external speaker is connected to socket 3, the
built-in speaker is switched off automatically.
4. Socket for SC2, SC3 or SC5 cables connection.

REMOTE CONTROL (RC1)
The remote control unit includes:
1. Central button with turning wheel.
2. Easy fixation system via double-sided tape.
3. Buttons with backlight.
MICROPHONE (M1)
The microphone is developed especially for in-car use. The location of the microphone significantly influences the acoustic
quality. For a recommendation on locating the microphone, see the “Installation” chapter.
The microphone has a 2 positional button for adjusting its sensitivity. Press the button on the microphone to increase the
volume to the other caller.
SYSTEM CABLES SC2 AND SC3 (Optional)
System cable SC2 connects the handsfree unit with the power supply and the ignition system and is used for muting the radio.
System cable SC3 is used for plug & drive installation. It provides power supply via the cigarette lighter.
Both system cables are supplied with changeable fuses. How to change the fuses is indicated in the illustration below.

SYSTEM CABLE SC5 (Optional, available separately)
System cable SC5 connects the handsfree unit with the power supply, the ignition system, the mute socket of the car radio
and the car speakers. It includes the mute box (MB2) with relay components and a cable with ISO standard sockets. Please
see the chapter “Installation” where the connection diagram is shown.

Important!
• Make sure that all the necessary cables, the handsfree unit and/or the external speaker are well installed be-
fore connecting the Blue Smart to the power supply of the car.
• During operation, do not attempt to access the speaker unit and the sockets of the speaker unit.
• For disconnecting the Blue Smart, always disconnect the power supply first.
HANDSFREE UNIT (SM3)
Search for a location in your car where the handsfree unit fits and where it is comfortable for use. Make sure that the
location in your car where you would like to install your handsfree unit is free from dust and dirt.
We recommend mounting the handsfree unit at a less visible position in the car (See illustration above). However, make
sure that the unit can provide good acoustic, by directing the speaker in the opposite direction of the microphone and by
placing the unit at a distance of more than 1 meter from the microphone.
The handsfree unit can be fixed in 2 ways:
1. Under the dashboard or at any other place in the car using the installation screws.
2. Under the dashboard or at any other place in the car using the double-sided tape.
REMOTE CONTROL (RC1)
The remote control should be located so that it is within easy reach of the driver.
There are 2 possible locations for mounting the remote control unit (See illustration above):
1. On the console between the front seats using the double-sided tape.
2. On the dashboard using the double-sided tape.
Make sure that the location in your car where you would like to install your remote control is free from dust and dirt.
Make sure that the cable that comes out of the remote control unit is placed so that it will not be damaged (e.g. not laid
under car seats or over sharp edges).
MICROPHONE (M1)
Mount the microphone close to the user’s head (30 cm is optimal) and place it so that it is directed towards the mouth.
Experience has shown that the best location is near the rearview mirror or to the left of the sun visor (See illustration
above). To avoid echo, it is recommended to have a minimum distance of 1 meter between the microphone and the
handsfree unit.
Make sure to mount the microphone so that it is not exposed to air streams from the vents. Do not lay the microphone cable
in the heating, ventilation or AC systems. Fix the microphone using Velcro.
CONNECTING TO THE POWER
There are 3 ways of connecting the Blue Smart to the car’s electronic system:
1. Plug & drive connection: Via the adapter for the cigarette lighter (SC3) (Optional).
2. Built-in connection: Immediately to the car’s electronic system via system cable SC2 (Optional).
The wires of cable SC2 are color-coded. They are listed in Table 1 in column A and each wire should be connected to
the corresponding item listed in column B.

Brown wire Used for Car Radio Muting (CRM) and has to be connected to the car radio (Mute)
• To avoid distortions, make sure that the cables are laid far away from the electronic systems of the car.
• Connect the wires with the contact clips. Put the car wire in the through groove of the clips and the cable wire in the
groove with the confining rib.
Attention!
If there is no “Ignition” wire or if it is unavailable, you should connect the blue cable wire to the red wire of the handsfree
unit and the red cable wire to the “Continuous” wire of the car which keeps the voltage when the ignition is turned off.
In this case, the phone call will not be disconnected if the ignition is turned off.
CAR RADIO MUTING (CRM)
The Blue Smart allows muting your car radio when there is an incoming call.
• Check the user’s manual of your car radio and ensure that it has a Mute function. If additional settings have to be
set from the car radio menu, make sure that they are done correctly.
• Remove the control panel of the car radio.
• Remove the decorative panel and take the car radio out of the sleeve using the handles. Disconnect the car radio plug.
• Connect the wires of the mr Handsfree Blue Smart to the corresponding wires of the car jack or of the ISO jack of
the car radio according to Table 1. Use the contact clips for the connection.
• Restore connection and installation of the car radio.
3. Professional built-in connection: Immediately to the car’s electronic system via system cable SC5 (Optional, available
separately).
• Disconnect the car radio and power leads.
• Join the cable according to the connection diagram shown below. If the car radio has a mute jack, connect the brown
wire of the SC5 cable to one of the “mute in” jacks (1, 2 or 3). Refer to your car radio manual to determine the posi-
tion of the mute jack.
The default connection is “mute 1”. In case this is not corresponding with your car radio, your car radio will not show
“mute” on the screen. However, the sound on the speakers will still be disconnected from your car radio and con-
nected to your carkit during a phone call.
The indicated power connectors are for (+) plus and (+) ignition. In some cases (e.g. Renault) these connectors
need to be swapped.

OPERATION
OPERATION
Since devices with Bluetooth®technology communicate through radio waves, your carkit and your mobile phone do not
need to be in direct line-of-sight. The 2 devices only need to be within a maximum of 10 meters of each other, so you don’t
need to take your phone out of your pocket or bag to make and receive calls via the carkit.
Since Bluetooth®phones produced by different manufacturers provide various functionalities; some functions described in
this user’s manual could be different or may not be available.
SWITCHING ON/OFF
If the mr Handsfree Blue Smart is connected to the power via the adapter with cable SC3, you can switch on the unit by
clicking the adapter into the cigarette lighter.
If the mr Handsfree Blue Smart is connected to the power via cable SC2 or SC5, the unit will switch on automatically when
you turn the ignition key.
Mr Handsfree Blue Smart will turn off automatically when the ignition is off.
MENU STRUCTURE
All functions of the unit are grouped in the voice menu.
• To access the menu, press the central button once. The white LED behind the button will light.
• To move in the menu, turn the central button to the left or to the right. The different menu items will be indicated by
voice prompts through the handsfree speaker.
• If no selection is made, the Blue Smart will automatically return to Standby mode after a few seconds. You can also
return to Standby mode by pressing the red button .

PAIRING, CONNECTION AND DISCONNECTION
A. PAIRING
• For pairing the mr Handsfree Blue Smart with your Bluetooth®mobile phone, you should press and go to the menu
item “Pairing”. Press to confirm. Now your Blue Smart is in pairing mode. You will hear a confirmation tone and the
corresponding voice prompt “Activated”. The LED indicators in the remote control will be flashing alternately.
• Activate the Bluetooth®function in your mobile phone.
• Search for available Bluetooth®devices by entering the corresponding submenu of the phone. Your phone will find all
Bluetooth®devices within 10 meters distance and display them as a list.
• Select “Blue Smart” from the list.
• Enter the passkey “0000”. “Blue Smart” will be stored in the list of paired devices in your phone.
• When the pairing has been successful, the green and red LED indicators will light continuously.
Your Blue Smart can store pairing information for up to 2 different Bluetooth®telephones. When an attempt to pair more
than 2 devices is made, the oldest paired device is removed from the memory.
Note:
To pair a second mobile phone with your Blue Smart carkit, you should follow the same procedure as described
above for pairing the first mobile phone. After switch on, the Blue Smart will automatically search for the last mo-
bile phone it was connected to (which was last used with the carkit). In case this phone is not available, the Blue
Smart will automatically search for the other paired phone for connection.
B. CONNECTION
In some cases the device could be disconnected from your phone. For example, if the Blue Smart was switched off. To
restore the connection between the Blue Smart and your phone:
• Switch on the power and the connection will be restored automatically; OR
• Use the central button to go to “Connection” and press ; OR
• Press the green button once.
C. DISCONNECTION
Sometimes you need to disconnect your phone from the Blue Smart. For example, if the phone should communicate with
another Bluetooth®device. To disconnect the Blue Smart and your phone:
• Switch off the Blue Smart; OR
• Use the central button to go to “Disconnection” and press ; OR
• Take the phone more than 10 meters away from the Blue Smart; OR
• Disconnect the Blue Smart and the phone through the phone’s menu.
Note:
If the Blue Smart and your phone were disconnected and you want to reconnect them it is not necessary to pair
these 2 devices again. Restoring of the connection will be performed without asking for the access code.
OPERATION
1. MAKING A CALL
Using your mobile phone:
Enter and dial the number on the mobile phone as you normally do.
Using voice dialing:
If your phone supports voice dialing and there are saved voice tags (names), you can use this function via the Blue Smart.
Before using this function make sure that you have saved voice tags for voice dialing in your phone.

• To activate voice dialing, press the button. The voice prompt “Voice dialing” will be played.
• Press to confirm. The voice prompt “Activated” will be played.
• After the beep, say the tag.
• The Blue Smart will activate the corresponding tag from the phone memory and dial the number.
2. ANSWERING A CALL
To answer an incoming call, press the green button .
3. ENDING A CALL
Press the red button to end a call.
4. REJECTING A CALL
If you do not want to accept a call, press the red button .
5. REDIAL
• In Standby mode, press the green button . The voice prompt “Last call” will be played.
• The phone will redial the last dialed number.
• Press the red button to cancel.
6. AUTOMATIC ANSWER
If the Automatic Answer function is set on your phone, the phone will automatically answer an incoming call after some
rings. This function can be activated or deactivated in the Blue Smart menu.
• To activate the Autoanswer function, press and turn the button to select the menu item “Autoanswer Off”. The
corresponding voice prompt will be played.
• Press the
button to confirm. The voice prompt will indicate the current status of this option: “Autoanswer On”.
• To deactivate the Autoanswer function, you should repeat this procedure.
7. SPEED DIAL
Speed dialing allows you to set a single-digit number for the telephone numbers you call most. You only have to select the
speed dial number to dial the corresponding telephone number. The Blue Smart can store up to 10 speed dial numbers.
Programming speed dial numbers
• Press and turn the button and select the item “Programming Speed dial”. The corresponding voice prompt will be
played.
• Press the
button to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone, followed by the voice prompt “One”. This indicates
the first memory location.
• Turn the
button to select the memory location where you would like to store the telephone number (1 to 0). You will
hear the corresponding voice prompts.
• Press the
button to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone, followed by the voice prompt “One”. This indicates
that you can start entering the telephone number.
• Turn the button to select the first digit of the telephone number. You will hear the corresponding voice prompts
indicating the following characters: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, +, #, *.
• Press the button to confirm the first digit. You will hear a confirmation tone.
• Repeat this procedure until you have selected and confirmed all digits of the telephone number.
• Press the green button to confirm the complete telephone number.
• The telephone number you have entered will now correspond to the speed dial number that you have selected.
Dialing speed dial numbers
• Press and turn the button and select the item “Speed dial”. The corresponding voice prompt will be played.
• Press the button to confirm. You will hear the voice prompt “One”. This indicates the first speed dial number.

• Turn the button to select the speed dial number to which you have assigned the telephone number that you would
like to call.
• Press the button to confirm. The selected speed dial number will be repeated and the corresponding telephone
number will be dialed.
8. DURING A CALL
• During a call you can adjust the speaker volume by turning the button to the left or to the right.
• To transfer the call from the Blue Smart to the phone, press and turn the button to select the menu item “Disconnection”.
• You can transfer a call from the phone to the Blue Smart through the corresponding item in the phone’s menu.
9. HANDSFREE / HEADSET MODE
Some phones require Bluetooth®operation in Headset mode.
• To activate the Headset mode, press and turn the button to select the menu item “Handsfree mode”. The corresponding
voice prompt will be played.
• Press the
button to confirm. The voice prompt will indicate the current status of this option: “Headset mode”.
• Disconnect your mobile phone and the Blue Smart as described in the chapter “Disconnection”.
• Restore the Bluetooth®connection as described in the chapter “Connection”.
• From now on your Blue Smart will work with your phone in Headset mode.
• To restore the Handsfree mode operation, you should repeat this procedure.
10. REAR SPEAKERS ON / OFF
• If you have installed your Blue Smart in your car via the system cable SC5 with mute box, you have the possibility to
switch your rear car speakers on or off during your call.
• To switch on the rear speakers, press and turn the button to select the menu item “Rear Off”. The corresponding
voice prompt will be played.
• Press the button to confirm. The voice prompt will indicate the current status of this option: “Rear On”.
• To switch off the rear speakers, you should repeat this procedure.

The Blue Smart is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions below
will help you to fulfill any guarantee obligations and to enjoy this product for many years.
• Keep the device and all its parts dry. Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moistures can contain minerals that
will corrode the electronic circuitry.
• Do not store the device in hot areas. High temperature can shorten the life of electronic devices and warp or melt certain
plastics.

• Do not store the device in cold areas. When it warms up (to its normal temperature), moisture can form inside, which may
damage electronic circuitry boards.
• Do not attempt to open the device. Non-expert handling may damage it.
• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong detergents to clean the device.

The mr Handsfree brand stands for superior product quality and outstanding customer service. That is why mr Handsfree
warrants this product against all defects in material and workmanship for a period of three (3) years from the date of origi-
nal purchase of the product.
The conditions of this guarantee and the extent of responsibility of mr Handsfree under this limited guarantee are as fol-
lows:
•This guarantee is limited to the original purchaser of the product and is not transferable to any subsequent purchaser/
end user.
•During the guarantee period, the sole responsibility of mr Handsfree will be limited to repair or replace, at its option,
any defective parts of the product if this is needed because of malfunction or failure under normal use and conditions.
No charge shall be made to the customer for parts and/or repair labor.
•The product must be shipped to an authorized service center in its original and complete packaging, with transportation
charges prepaid. Mr Handsfree will not assume responsibility for any losses or damages during transportation.
•To obtain repair or replacement within the terms of this guarantee, the customer must provide (a) a proof of purchase
(e.g. dated bill of sale); (b) a written specification of the defect(s); (c) a return address and phone number.
•This guarantee does not cover and is void with respect to the following:
(a) Products which have been subjected to improper installation, unauthorized repair, improper maintenance,
unauthorized modifications or other acts which are not the fault of mr Handsfree; (b) Products which have been
subjected to misuse, abuse, neglect, improper handling and storage, an accident or physical damage; (c) Prod-
ucts which have been subjected to fire, water, excessive humidity, sand, dirt, extreme changes in temperature or
other conditions which are beyond the control of mr Handsfree; (d) Products which have been used with non-mr

VEILIGHEIDSINSTRUCTIES
1. Zorg ervoor dat de motor van de wagen uitgeschakeld is alvorens met de installatie van start te gaan.
2. Zorg ervoor dat de werking van de carkit geen invloed heeft op uw veiligheid.
3. Zorg ervoor dat u de elektrische kabels, de brandstof- of remlijnen, of de veiligheidsuitrusting niet beschadigt tijdens
de installatie.
4. Zorg ervoor dat u tijdens de installatie van de carkit het besturing- of remsysteem of een ander systeem essentieel
voor de goede werking van uw wagen niet beïnvloedt. Zorg ervoor dat het uiteenvouwen van de airbags niet geblok-
keerd wordt of onmogelijk is op om het even welke manier.
5. De carkit mag enkel gebruikt worden op een werkingsvoltage van 12V met een negatieve aarding. Het negeren van
deze vereiste kan resulteren in schade aan het elektronisch systeem van uw wagen.
6. Gebruik uw carkit niet te lang zonder de batterij van uw wagen, bv. wanneer de motor uitgeschakeld is, omdat dit een
lege batterij tot gevolg kan hebben.

HANDSFREE TOESTEL (SM3)
Het handsfree toestel bevat een ingebouwde luidspreker, een echo-compensator, een geluidsdemper, DSP technologie en
Bluetooth®draadloze technologie, die zorgt voor een draadloze verbinding met Bluetooth®mobiele telefoons.
Het handsfree toestel heeft de volgende aansluitingen voor de verbinding van externe toestellen:
1. Aansluiting voor kabel van de afstandsbediening (RC1).
2. Microfoonaansluiting M1.
3. Aansluiting voor externe luidspreker (3-6W, min 8 Ohm). Indien de externe luidspreker verbonden is met aansluiting 3,
zal de ingebouwde luidspreker automatisch uitgeschakeld worden.
4. Aansluiting voor kabels SC2, SC3 of SC5.

AFSTANDSBEDIENING (RC1)
De afstandsbediening omvat:
1. Draaiknop.
2. Makkelijk bevestigingssysteem door middel van dubbelzijdige plakband.
3. Toetsen met achtergrondverlichting.
MICROFOON (M1)
De microfoon werd speciaal ontwikkeld voor gebruik in de wagen. De locatie van de microfoon heeft een belangrijke
invloed op de akoestische kwaliteit. Voor een aanbeveling van een locatie voor de microfoon, zie het hoofdstuk “Installatie”.
De microfoon bevat een toets waarmee u de gevoeligheid van het geluid kunt aanpassen. Druk op de toets van de micro-
foon om het volume voor de persoon aan de andere kant van de lijn te verhogen.
SYSTEEMKABELS SC2 EN SC3 (Optioneel)
De systeemkabel SC2 verbindt het handsfree toestel met de stroomvoorziening en wordt gebruikt voor de “mute”- functie
van de radio.
De systeemkabel SC3 wordt gebruikt voor de plug & drive installatie. De kabel voorziet een stroomvoorziening via de
sigarenaansteker.

Bij het drukken:
- Aanvaardt u een oproep.
- Herstelt u de verbinding.
Bij het naar links of rechts draaien van de draaiknop:
- Navigeert u in het menu.
- Verhoogt of verlaagt u het luidsprekervolume tijdens een
oproep.
- Verhoogt of verlaagt u het volume van de spraakmeldingen.
Bij het drukken van de draaiknop:
- Bevestigt u een selectie in het menu.
Bij het drukken:
- Beëindigt u een oproep.
- Weigert u een inkomende oproep.
- Keert u terug naar Standby positie.

Beide systeemkabels worden geleverd met een verwisselbare zekering. Hoe u de zekeringen kunt vervangen, wordt uit-
gelegd in onderstaande tekening.
SYSTEEMKABEL SC5 (Optioneel, apart te verkrijgen)
De systeemkabel SC5 verbindt het handsfree toestel met de stroomvoorziening, de geschakelde stroomdraad, de “mute”
functie van de autoradio en de luidsprekers in de wagen. De kabel bevat de mute box met verbindingscomponenten en
een systeemkabel met ISO standaard aansluitingen. Gelieve het hoofdstuk “Installatie” te raadplegen, waar het verbin-
dingsdiagram wordt getoond.
