1.Decidewhere toplace yourWireless Broadband Router
You can placeyourWireless Broadband Routeron adeskorotherflat surface, oryou can mountit on
awall. Foroptimalperformance, placeyourWireless Broadband Routerinthe centerofyouroffice(or
yourhome)inalocation thatisawayfromanypotentialsourceofinterference, suchasametalwallor
microwaveoven. Thislocation must be closetopowerand network connection.
2.SetupLANconnection
a.WiredLANconnection:connects an Ethernetcablefromyourcomputer’sEthernetporttoone ofthe
LANportsofthisproduct.
b.Wireless LANconnection:locatethisproductataproperpositiontogainthebesttransmit
performance.

3.Setup WANconnection
Preparean Ethernetcableforconnectingthisproducttoyourcable/xDSLmodemorEthernet
backbone. Figure2-3illustratesthe WANconnection.
4.Power on
Connecting the powercordtopowerinletand turning the powerswitchon,thisproductwill
automaticallyenterthe self-testphase.When itisinthe self-testphase,the indicatorsM1willbe
lighted ONforabout10seconds,and then M1willbeflashed 3timestoindicatethatthe self-test
operation hasfinished.Finally,the M1willbe continuouslyflashed oncepersecond toindicatethatthis
product isinnormal operation.

Tousethisproductcorrectly, you havetoproperlyconfigurethe network settingsof yourcomputersand
installthe attached setup programintoyourMSWindowsplatform.
3.1Make CorrectNetworkSettingsofYourComputer
The defaultIPaddressofthisproductis192.168.1.254,and the defaultsubnetmaskis255.255.255.0.
Theseaddressescan be changed on yourneed,butthe defaultvaluesareusedinthismanual.Ifthe
TCP/IPenvironmentofyourcomputerhasnotyetbeen configured,you can referto AppendixA to
configureit.Forexample,
1.configureIPas192.168.1.1,subnetmaskas255.255.255.0and gatewayas192.168.1.254,or
moreeasier,
2.configureyourcomputerstoload TCP/IPsetting automatically,thatis,via DHCPserverofthis
product.
Afterinstalling the TCP/IPcommunication protocol,you can usethe ping command tocheck ifyour
computerhassuccessfullyconnected tothisproduct. The following exampleshowsthe ping procedurefor
Windows95 platforms.First,executethe ping command
ping192.168.1.254
Ifthe following messagesappear:
Pinging192.168.1.254 with32 bytesofdata:
Replyfrom192.168.1.254:bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64
Acommunication linkbetween yourcomputerand thisproducthasbeen successfullyestablished.

2.Isthe TCP/IPenvironment of yourcomputersproperlyconfigured?
Tip:Ifthe IPaddress ofthisproductis192.168.1.254,the IPaddress ofyourcomputermustbe

suchasNetscape CommunicatororInternet Explorer.Thisapproachcan be adopted inanyMSWindows,

4.1Start-upandLog in
Activateyourbrowser,and disabletheproxy or add theIPaddress ofthisproductintotheexceptions.
Then,type thisproduct’sIPaddressintheLocation(forNetscape)orAddress (forIE)fieldand press
ENTER.Forexample: http://192.168.1.254.
Afterthe connection isestablished,you willsee the web userinterfaceofthisproduct.Tolog inasan
administrator,enterthe systempassword(the factorysettingis ”admin”)inthe Password fieldand clickon
the OK button.Ifthe passwordiscorrect,the web appearancewillbe changed intoadministratorconfigure
mode.Aslisted initsmainmenu, thereareseveral optionsforsystemadministration.
