locationthatisawayfromanypotentialsource ofinterference,suchasametal wallormicrowaveoven.This
locationmustbeclosetopowerand networkconnection.
2. SetupLAN connection
a. WiredLAN connection:connects anEthernet cablefromyourcomputer sEthernetporttooneof theLAN
portsof thisproduct.
b. Wireless LAN connection:locatethisproduct ataproperpositiontogainthebesttransmitperformance

2-3 illustratestheWAN connection.

Connectingthepowercordtopowerinlet andturningthepowerswitchon,thisproductwillautomaticallyenter
theself-testphase.Whenitisintheself-testphase,theindicatorsM1willbelightedONforabout10seconds,
andthenM1willbeflashed3timestoindicatethattheself-testoperationhasfinished.Finally,theM1willbe

Thedefault IPaddress of thisproductis192.168.1.254,andthedefault subnetmaskis255.255.255.0.These
addressescanbechangedonyourneed,butthedefault valuesareusedinthismanual.IftheTCP/IPenvironmentof
yourcomputerhasnotyetbeenconfigured, youcanreferto AppendixA toconfigureit.Forexample,
1. configureIPas192.168.1.1, subnetmaskas255.255.255.0andgatewayas192.168.1.254, ormoreeasier,
2. configureyourcomputerstoloadTCP/IPsettingautomatically, thatis,viaDHCPserverof thisproduct.
AfterinstallingtheTCP/IPcommunicationprotocol,youcanusethe ping commandtocheckifyourcomputerhas
successfullyconnectedtothisproduct. Thefollowingexampleshowstheping procedureforWindows95 platforms.

4.1Start-up and Log in
Activateyourbrowser,and disabletheproxy or add theIPaddress ofthisproductintotheexceptions.Then,
typethisproduct sIPaddress intheLocation(forNetscape)orAddress (forIE)fieldandpress ENTER.For
example: http://192.168.1.254.
Aftertheconnectionisestablished,youwill see thewebuserinterface of thisproduct.Tologinasanadministrator,
enterthesystempassword(thefactorysettingis”admin”)inthe Password fieldand clickonthe OK button.If
thepasswordiscorrect,thewebappearance willbechangedintoadministratorconfiguremode.Aslistedinitsmain
menu,thereareseveral optionsforsystemadministration.
