Mueller®H-605 Air Power Operator
GENERAL
This publication addresses some of the safety issues when operating this machine. Neglecting to follow these recommendations
may pose serious hazards or result in failure of equipment. The operator of this machine must have access to, have read, and fully
understand this document and the recommendations and operating instructions for the H-605 Air Power Operator.
The H-605 Air Power Operator provides air power to drive various Mueller®Drilling Machines. Refer to current Mueller product
catalog for machine compatibility.
WARNING: The operator of this machine must adhere to the following instructions to reduce the possibility of misuse
of the machine or accident. Failure to observe these instructions and the following warnings could result in serious
bodily injury.
Always wear eye protection when operating this machine.
DO NOT use damaged, frayed, loose or deteriorated air hoses or ttings.
Always turn off the air supply and disconnect the air supply hose before installing, removing or adjusting any accessory
on this machine, or before performing maintenance on this machine.
CAUTION: DO NOT modify this machine. Doing so could void the warranty and create a safety hazard.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
• Air Consumption – 36 scfm at max
power (1m3/min)

• Operation – Non-reversible
SPECIFICATIONS FOR H-605 AIR POWER OPERATOR
CAUTION: Pneumatically driven
power tools are not generally
insulated against coming in contact
with sources of electrical current.
Take necessary precautions if
sources of electrical current are
nearby.
WARNING: Operate this machine
at 90psig (6.2 bar/621kPa) air
pressure.
A. Be sure to read the Mueller Operating
Instructions for the Mueller drilling
machine that is being powered by the
H-605 operator.
B. Install drilling machine on pipe
according to the drilling machine’s
operating manual.
C. After the drill or pilot has been
positioned at the pipe according to
the machine instructions, attach the
operator to the machine.

Mueller®H-605 Air Power Operator
A. Position the square coupler of the
operator over the square end of
the drilling machine boring bar and
engage them slightly.
B. Turn the body of the operator until
the end of operator can be lowered
into the adapter plate on the end of
the machine, aligning the latch pin
holes in the operator with those on the
adapter plate.
C. Push the operator fully into the
adapter plate and insert the two
spring-loaded latch pins through the
latch pin holes. The pins must pass
completely through the adapter plate
in order to lock the operator to the
machine.
D. Connect the air source to the
lubricator air hose that is attached to
the inlet valve of the operator. Make
sure the air lubricator is lled with
a good grade air lubricant, such as
Mobil DTE Light or equivalent.
E. Make sure operator inlet valve is
closed and then apply operating air
pressure to the valve.
F. Open the operator inlet valve and
conduct the drilling operation in
accordance with the drilling machine
operating manual.
2. CONNECTING THE H-605 OPERATOR TO THE DRILLING MACHINE
A. After completing the drilling operation,
retract the drill or shell cutter from the
pipe in accordance with the drilling
machine operating instruction manual.
B. When the tools have cleared the pipe,
close the operator inlet valve and
remove the air power operator from
the drilling machine.
C. Following the instructions in the
drilling machine manual, continue
retracting the drilling machine boring
bar until it is at its rear most position.
