Mueller DuraCast CS-10 User manual

The DuraCast Healthy Cast Iron Skillet is a multi-functional piece of
cookware that can sauté, sear, fry, bake, or stir-fry. Your skillet is pre-sea-
soned, for a natural, easy-release finish that enhances with each time
you cook.
• Suitable for Electric, Gas, Ceramic-Glass, and Induction cooktops
• Oven and Grill-Safe
• Suitable for Barbeques and Campfires
• Store in a cool, dry place with a dry paper towel on the interior surface to
prevent rusting and possible scratches from other pots.
• Do not wash in a dishwasher, and do not use oven cleaners on this cook-
ware.
Every time you cook with oil in your skillet, you are enhancing the season-
ing. However, if you find that food eventually begins to stick to the interior
surface, the skillet is a dull gray color, or if rust appears, re-seasoning may be
required.
• Clean your pan thoroughly, in hot soapy water with a stiff brush. Dry thor-
oughly.
• Apply a thin, even coating of melted solid vegetable shortening (or cook-
ing oil of your choice, such as canola or linseed) onto both the interior and
the exterior of the skillet.
• Place the skillet in the oven upside down on a grill rack. Place a large
baking sheet or aluminum foil on the bottom rack to collect any dripping oil.
Bake in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 1 hour.
• Let the pan completely cool before removing from the oven.
• Store in a cool, dry place, with a dry paper towel on the interior surface to
absorb moisture and to prevent rust.

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING USE AND CARE
INSTRUCTIONS. BY FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS, YOUR
MUELLER DURACAST HEALTHY CAST IRON SKILLET WILL BRING
YEARS OF COOKING PLEASURE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
• Never leave cookware unattended while cooking.
• Never leave the skillet on the heat source without food or liquid inside.
• Do not add cold water, ice, or fully frozen food items directly to the hot
skillet as this can cause thermal shock, and any steam eruption may cause
burns or other injuries to users or bystanders.
• Be extremely cautious when liquid is added to hot oils during cooking.
Steam eruptions may cause burns or injuries to users or bystanders.
• The main handle and assist handle of the skillet will become extremely
hot during cooking. Always use oven mitts to tilt or lift the skillet from the
cooktop or oven to prevent possible burns.
• If using a ceramic or induction cooktop, tilt or lift the skillet rather than
sliding it across the glass surface to avoid any possible damage to the skillet
or the cooking surface.
• Cast iron cookware can be very heavy when filled. Use caution when
lifting and moving the skillet containing hot liquid or food.
• After cooking, always place a hot skillet on a heat-resistant board or trivet,
and not directly on an unprotected countertop.
• For safety and to prevent warping, allow cookware to cool before cleaning
or immersion in water.
• Keep the hot skillet out of reach of children or bystanders.
• Keep your skillet in a suitable location. Cast iron cookware is exceptional-
ly durable, however, it may chip or crack if dropped onto a hard surface.
• Not microwave-safe.
• For household use only.
• Prior to cooking, add vegetable oil or another shortening, food, or liquid to
the skillet and pre-heat. Never heat the skillet when it is empty.
• When cooking on a cooktop, select a heat source size that is as close as
possible to the size of the skillet base. This will allow heat to distribute
evenly and prevent overheating of the handle(s).
• Use a Low to Medium heat setting. The cast iron properties will heat up
slowly and will stay warm, so high heat is typically not required. Not recom-
mended for temperatures above 446°F (230°C).
• Cooking with lower settings will generally prevent food from sticking.
Also, avoid adding very cold foods to the skillet, as this can promote stick-
ing.
• Never put cold water into a hot skillet. Sudden changes of temperature
may cause any metal to warp, including the skillet, resulting in an uneven
bottom.
• Prior to cooking with acidic foods, such as tomatoes or citrus, ensure
your pre-seasoned coating has been maintained (See RE-SEASONING for
further details). Acidic foods can remove some of the seasoning layers, so it
is best to avoid prolonged exposure.
• Use wooden or heat-resistant nylon utensils to avoid scratching the interi-
or of the skillet. Do not cut food directly on the skillet surface.
SAFEGUARDS
• Always allow your skillet to cool before handling and washing. Never
place a hot skillet in cold water to prevent thermal shock.
• After each use, wash the cookware in warm water. Avoid using dish deter-
gent, harsh abrasives, or scouring pads to maintain the pan’s pre-seasoned
condition.
• If food has dried or burnt from overheating, first fill the pan with water and
boil for a few minutes to loosen the residue before continuing to clean.
• Do not allow the seasoned skillet to soak in water for long periods of time.
• Dry immediately and thoroughly with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. Avoid
leaving to air-dry as this can promote rust. (Note, any black residue you wipe
off is typically seasoning and is perfectly normal.)
• While the skillet is still warm from washing, apply a light coating of your
oil of choice (e.g., vegetable, canola, linseed, or melted shortening) with a
paper towel inside the skillet to help maintain the seasoning. Wipe the
surface until no oil residue remains.
PROPER USE
CLEANING
• Your Mueller DuraCast Healthy Cast Iron Skillet is pre-seasoned and ready
to use. Before first use, we recommend washing in hot water without using
any detergent. This will keep the seasoning at its finest. Dry immediately and
thoroughly with a lint-free towel or paper towel.
