permanently connected PROTECTIVE EARTHING
CONDUCTOR and the installation is provided by a
SERVICE PERSON.

1.
Overview
1.1. Description
The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub (500136)
allows video, remote power and PTZ control to be
transmitted via one 4-pair Cat5e/6 cable, thus eliminating
the need to install multiple cables for more efficient
cabling in the security video environment.
The product features a built-in 16-channel 350VA CCTV
power supply that supplies 24Vac or 28Vac power to
each CCTV camera and works in conjunction with
MuxLab’s 500000R, 500009, 500022, 500023, 500024,
500029, 500120, 500122 and 500130.
Each hub port features two slide-switches; one for
remote power and one for Power-Thru or Pass-Thru
mode according to the application.

3.1. Parts List

present before proceeding.

3.3. Pre-Installation Checklist
The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub provides a
centralized sixteen (16) channel CCTV Cat5e/6 cabling
solution.
1. The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub is used in
a CCTV installation to manage the video, power and
control connections between the CCTV cameras and
the head-end.
2. The product incorporates a video balun at each port
and is connected to the DVR via coaxial cable and
features a switch at each port to select between Pass-
Thru Mode (500022 compatible) or Power-Thru
Mode (500024/500029 compatible) depending on the
cabling configuration.
3. The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub works in
conjunction with MuxLab’s other CCTV products
including the 500000R, 500009, 500015, 500022,
500023, 500024, 500029, 500120, 500122 and
500130. The passive CCTV Baluns are connected at
the CCTV camera.
4. The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub also works
with CCTV cameras that have built-in twisted pair
baluns. It may be necessary to reverse the polarity of
the wires.

3.4. Physical Installation
The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub is a 2U, 19”
rackmount unit. The factory default switch setting of
each port is Pass-Thru Mode (500022). The factory
default setting for remote power is “OFF”
1. MuxLab’s Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub
comes with two (2) "L" brackets and four (4) Philips
4-40 screws for standard 19” rack mounting. Select
the final destination for the product and attach the
"L" brackets as shown in the diagram below.

2. If the product fits in the relay rack, install the unit
using standard rackmount screws.

3.5. Installation Procedure
The Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub features BNC
connectors on the video portion of the device, thereby
allowing it to be connected directly to the DVR or IP
camera encoder via coaxial cable. In order to install the
product in this configuration, please follow the steps
below:
1. Install the Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub in its
final location. Please verify that the cable lengths
between the hub and cameras are within MuxLab
specifications.
2. Ensure that the Passive CCTV Power Integrator Hub
is properly grounded in accordance with local safety
codes. On the rear panel a grounding terminal is
provided. Refer to the instructive figures below.
Power up the unit.
Crimp the terminal on the tip
of green cable gage 18 or
better
Fit the terminal on the screw
between tooth-washers Fit this assembly to the space provided on the back of the
unit
Permanently mount second tip of the green cable to the grounding post and check presence of
continuity between the grounding post and enclosure of the unit.

3. Connect a MuxLab passive CCTV Balun (MuxLab
p/n 500000R, 500009, 500022, 500023, 500024 or
500029) to each CCTV camera video output. Please
refer to the appropriate CCTV balun installation
guide for details.
4. Connect a Cat5e/6 cable from each camera to one of
the modular RJ45 ports on the front of the Passive
CCTV Power Integrator Hub (fig 5). Ensure wiring
is that EIA 568 and straight-through polarity is
respected between the CCTV balun and the hub.
The use of other Cat5e/6 connection hardware such
as patch panels and 110 blocks is supported.

Port Switch Settings:
5. For each camera port, determine whether video,
power and/or control are to be transmitted via the
same Cat5e/6 cable. If only video is to be
transmitted, then the remote power switch should be
set to “OFF” and the Control terminals may be
disregarded.

6. If remote power is being transmitted to the camera,
verify that the distance between the camera and the
hub is within MuxLab specifications. Please consult
the distance charts at the back of the installation
guide. When the port switch is set to Pass-Thru
Mode (500022), two (2) twisted pairs are used for
remote power. When the port switch is set to
Power-Thru Mode (500024/500029), three (3)
twisted pairs are used for remote power thus
supporting greater distance.
7. In order to transmit video on one (1) twisted pair,
remote power on two (2) twisted pairs and control
on one (1) twisted pair, set the port switch to Pass-
Thru Mode (500022) using a small flathead
screwdriver, as shown in fig 6. Ensure that there is a
CCTV Pass-Thru Balun (500022) at the camera.

8. In order to transmit video on one (1) twisted pair and
remote power on three (3) twisted pairs, set the port
switch to Power-Thru Mode (500024/500029) using
a small flathead screwdriver (fig 7). Ensure that there
is a CCTV Power-Thru Balun (500024 or 500029) at
the camera.

The factory default position of each remote power switch
is “OFF”. In order to set a specific port to provide
voltage 24Vac to the camera, slide the appropriate
switch to left-most position (fig 8).

9. Verify that the green LED indicator is ON (fig 8). If
so, the port is ready for use. If not, the port fuse may
be in FAULT status. In order to reset the fuse to
ACTIVE status, slide the power switch (24-OFF-28)
to the middle position, wait 3~5 seconds and then
slide it back to the desired position. Verify again that
the green LED indicator is ON. If not, verify the
Cat5e/6 wiring between the port and the camera to
eliminate possible short circuits that may be causing
the fuse to trip.

Video Output Connections:
10. Connect one coax cable between each video output
port on the hub and the DVR video input (fig 8).

PTZ Control:
11. If PTZ Control is to be transmitted to the camera,
verify that the distance between the camera and the
hub is within the distance specifications for sending
PTZ control over twisted pair. Consult the PTZ
equipment vendor for maximum distances. Please
ensure that the port switch is set to Pass-Thru Mode
(500022). When the port switch is set to Pass-Thru
Mode (500022), one (1) twisted pair is used for PTZ
control. For optimum results, it is recommended to
use control protocols such as RS-422, RS-485 or Bi-
phase. Due to crosstalk issues, RS-232 is not
recommended.

12. Connect two (2) wires between the PTZ controller
and the “Control” terminals on the hub (fig 9).

4.
Troubleshooting
The following chart describes some of the problem symptoms, the
probable causes and possible solutions. If the information below
does not solve the problem, please contact MuxLab Technical
Support at 877-689-5228 (North America) or at (+1) 514 905-
0588 (International) or via e-mail at [e-mail].
