To move up or down a steep

SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS:
Safety and handling of the wheelchair requires the close
attention of the wheelchair user as well as the assistant.
This manual points out the most common procedures and
techniques involved in the safe operation and maintenance
of the wheelchair. It is important to practice and master these
safe techniques until you are comfortable in manoeuvring
around the frequently encountered architectural barriers. Use
this information only as a basic guide. The techniques that are
discussed on the following pages have been used successfully
by many. Individual wheelchair users often develop skills to deal
withdailylivingactivitiesthatmaydierfromthosedescribed
in this manual. However, all warnings and cautions given in
this manual MUST be heeded. Techniques in this manual are
a starting point for the new wheelchair user and assistant with
“safety” as the most important consideration for all.
Be aware that carrying heavy objects on your lap while
occupyingthewheelchairmayadverselyaectthestabilityofthe
wheelchair, resulting in serious bodily injury to the user, damage
to the wheelchair and surrounding property. This wheelchair has
been designed to accommodate one individual. If more than one
individualoccupiesthewheelchairthismayadverselyaectthe
stability of the wheelchair, resulting in serious bodily injury to the
user, damage to the wheelchair and surrounding property

REACHING, LEANING AND BENDING
FORWARD OR SIDEWAYS:
• DO NOT attempt to reach objects if you must move forward
intheseatorpickthemupfromtheoorbyreachingdown
between your knees.
• DO NOT attempt to reach or lift objects that would cause you
to shift weight to one side of the wheelchair. Reaching or lifting
objects on the side of the wheelchair can cause the chair to tip
over sideways.
• DO NOT lean over the top of the back upholstery to reach
objects behind you, as this may cause the wheelchair to tip
over.
• Forward:
• Position the front casters so that they are extended as far
forward as possible and engage wheel locks.
• Backwards:
• Position wheelchair as close as possible to the desired object.
• Point front casters forward to create the longest possible
wheelbase. Reach back only as far as your arm will extend
without changing your sitting position.
COPING WITH EVERYDAY OBSTACLES:
Coping with the irritation of everyday obstacles can be alleviated
somewhat by learning how to manage your wheelchair. Keep in
mind your centre of gravity to maintain stability and balance.
ESCALATORS:
DONOTuseanescalatortomoveawheelchairbetweenoors.
Serious bodily injury may occur.
MAINTANANCE:
The WHEELCHAIR is designed for minimum maintenance.
To clean, wipe over with a soft cloth. Use general purpose
neutral detergent and warm water.
Do not use harsh abrasives.
Clean regularly and dry.
When cleaning hand grip areas use only a clean towel lightly
dampened with cool water. Verify that grips are dry prior to use.
If the wheelchair is exposed to extreme temperature (above
100°F or below 32°F), high humidity and/or becomes wet, prior
to use, ensure that the handgrips DO NOT twist on the handle.
Otherwise, damage or injury may occur.
Always make sure your brakes are operating correctly before
use. Keep the brake handles free from dirt, dust, and grime.
Build-up of particles could cause your brakes not to engage
properly. If the brakes are not braking, check the cables for
looseness. The cables can be tightened at the adjuster screw
located where the cable is connected to the brake handle. If
the cable is broken, it will need to be replaced. Periodically
check and tighten all nuts, bolts, screws, and other hardware on
WHEELCHAIR.
After any adjustments, repair, or service and before use, make
sure all attaching hardware is tightened securely. Otherwise,
injury or damage may result. DO NOT overtighten hardware
attaching to the frame. This could cause damage to the frame
tubing
As with any vehicle, check the wheels and tyres periodically for
cracks and wear. Replace if damaged.
Device readiness: With the device fully assembled as per the
instructions, and checked for safety, the device is ready for use.
Reusability: If the device becomes worn, or becomes
dilapidated, discontinue use, and obtain a new device.
When to consult a healthcare professional: If the user
complains about any discomfort or inconvenience using the
device, consult with a healthcare professional.
Should any problems be experienced from the use of this device, please
notify us immediately at customercar[email protected]. Should any serious
incident or harm be the result of the use of this device, please inform the
manufacturer and the health authorities in the country of sale.
