Setting up
1 Open the WorldCommunicator by swinging down
the Modem Unit.

Unfold the antenna.
Use storm locks if necessary.
3Press and
hold for
2 secs.
4PIN code:
use multi-
buttons as indicated (default code: 1234).
5Check antenna cable connections.
6The four satellites are positioned stationary
above equator, see map in
"Getting Started" or on CD.
Aim the antenna
towards the estimated
position of the satel-
lite, or make a slow
scan across the hemi-
sphere with the vertical angles
60°, 30° or 0° as indicated. If
necessary, use the compass.
Free line of sight to the
satellite is required.

7The shaded signal strength bar
appearing in the display increases
in length when closing in on the
satellite.
The signal strength should
be at least 535 for 64 kbps
communication.
8 Press to accept
the Ocean Region satellite.
If no spot beam is found from the current
satellite, try another Ocean Region.

Note! Default Net service provider
must be programmed the first time
an Ocean Region is entered:
• Press to open the MENU.
Scroll down to Set Default Net
and press .
• Press at required provider.
When using a SIM card, the Net
service provider is preset.
ISDN telephone:
9 Connect the ISDN telephone and verify that you have
a dial tone. If no MSN number is configured, 4.8 kbps
speech quality is automatically chosen.

gh quality 64 kbps speech service is selected by entering
MSN no.30 into the ISDN equipment (see Getting Started.)
DECT handset registration:
10 Press on the
WorldCommunicator to
enter the MENU.
Select Device Manager>Add device>DECT>Speech,
and enter Owner's password before pressing .
Open to register appears in the display.
• Press to switch ON the DECT handset.
• Press the DECT display key.
• Select and confirm.
• Select and confirm.
• Select the base station.

• Enter the WorldCommunicator base station
pass word: 1 2 3 4 (the first four digits of the owner
password. Use new code when the owner password
has been changed.)
• Press when REGISTERED appears in the
WorldCommunicator display.
Making a call:
11 Dial 00, country code and subscriber number .
Press to send the number, e.g.:
004767244700
Data setup:
Use the Windows dial-up networking to programme
the server telephone number.
Make sure to use the correct modem driver.
Note! Some Net providers offer free e-mail and
internet access by dialing 28#.
Dialing a mobile ISDN compatible server:
Connect the computer to the ISDN/RS-232 or USB
port. Use the following modem drivers:
• ISDN,
use a driver matching your PCMCIA/PCI card.
• RS-232, use a 33.600 bps driver in Windows.
• USB, on computer use the Nera WorldCommunicator
USB modem driver (found on the CD).
On a Mac computer, use Metric Ricochet Wireless.
Dialing MPDS is only possible via RS-232 and USB.
Dial number **94#. See detailed regarding use of
applications on the Nera WorldCommunicator CD.
