The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900; GSM 1800
and,1900; and WCDMA2000 networks. Contact your service provider for more information

■Network services
To use the phone you must have service from a wireless serviceprovider. Many of the
features in this device depend on features in the wireless network to function. These
network services may not be available on all networks or you may have to make specific
arrangements with your service providerbeforeyou can utilize network services.Your
service provider mayneed to give you additional instructions for their useand explain what
charges will apply.Some networksmay have limitations thataffect how you can use
network services. For instance, some networks may not support all language-dependent

Your service provider may have requested that certain features be disabled or not activated
in your device. If so, they will not appear onyourdevicemenu.Your device may alsohave

This device supports WAP 2.0 protocols (HTTP and SSL)that run on TCP/IP protocols. Some
features of this device, such as multimedia messaging (MMS), browsing,e-mail application,
instant messaging, presence-enhanced contacts, remote synchronization, and content
downloading using the browser or MMS, require network support for these technologies.
■Shared memory
The following featuresin this device may share memory: gallery,contacts,text messages,
multimediamessages,instantmessages,e-mail,calendar,to-donotes,JavaTM games and
applications,and noteapplication. Useof one or more of these featuresmay reduce the
memory available forthe remaining features sharing memory. For example, saving many
Javaapplicationsmayuseall ofthe available memory.Yourdevicemaydisplaya message
that the memory is full when you try to use a shared memory feature. In this case, delete
some of the information or entries stored in the shared memory features before continuing.
Some of the features, such astext messages, may have a certain amount of memory
speciallyallotted tothem inaddition to the memory sharedwith otherfeatures.
■Enhancements
A few practical rules about accessories and enhancements.
• Keep all accessories and enhancements out of the reach of small children.
• When you disconnectthe powercord of any accessory or enhancement,grasp and pull
theplug,notthecord.
• Checkregularlythatenhancementsinstalledina vehiclearemountedandareoperating
properly.
• Installation of any complex car enhancements must be made by qualified personnel only.

General information
■Access codes
Security code
The security code (5to 10digits) helps to protect yourphone against
unauthorized use. The preset code is 12345.To change the code, andto set the
phone to requestthe code, see Securityp. 94.
If you enteran incorrect security codefive times in succession, the phoneignores
further entriesof thecode. Wait for 5minutes, and enter the codeagain.
PIN codes
The personal identification number (PIN) code andthe universal personal
identification number (UPIN) code (4 to 8 digits) help toprotect yourSIMcard
againstunauthorizeduse.SeeSecurityp. 94.ThePINcodeisusuallysuppliedwith
the SIM card. Setthe phone torequest the PINcode each timethe phone is
switched on.
The PIN2code(4to8 digits)maybesupplied withthe SIMcardandisrequiredfor
somefunctions.
The module PIN isrequired to access the information in the security module. See
Security modulep. 136. The module PINis supplied with theSIM card ifthe SIM
card hasa security module init.

The signing PINis required forthe digital signature. See Digital signature p. 137.
The signing PINis supplied with the SIMcard ifthe SIM cardhas a security
moduleinit.
PUK codes
Thepersonalunblockingkey(PUK)codeandtheuniversalpersonalunblockingkey
(UPUK) code (8 digits) is requiredto change a blocked PINcode and UPINcode,
respectively. The PUK2 code is required to change ablocked PIN2code.
If the codes arenot supplied withthe SIM card, contact your serviceprovider for
the codes.
Barring password
The barring password (4digits) isrequired when you use theCallbarringservice.
See Security p. 94. Youcan obtainthe password from your service provider.
Ifyouenteranincorrectbarringpasswordthreetimesin succession,thepassword
is blocked. Contact your service provider or network operator.
■Configuration settings service
Before you use multimediamessaging, instant messaging andpresence, push to
talk, email, synchronization, streaming, andthe browser, you musthave the
proper configurationsettingson yourphone.Youmayreceivethesettingsdirectly
as a configuration message, whichyou save toyour phone.For more information

on availability, contact your network operator, service provider, or nearest
authorized Nokia dealer.
When you have received the settings as aconfiguration message, andthe settings
are not automatically saved and activated, Configurationsettingsreceived is
displayed.
To save the received settings, select Show > Save. If the phonerequests Enter
settings’PIN:,enterthePINcodeforthesettings,andselectOK.ToreceivethePIN
code, contact the service provider that supplies the settings.
If no settings are saved yet, these settingsare saved and set as default
configuration settings. Otherwise, the phoneasks Activatesavedconfiguration
settings?.
To discard the received settings, select Show > Discard.
■Download content and applications
You maybeable to downloadcontent, such as themes, tones,and video clips, to
the phone (network service). Select the downloadfunction (for example, inthe
Gallery menu). To access the download function, see the respective menu
descriptions.Foravailabilityofdifferentservices,pricing,andtariffs,contactyour
service provider.
Important: Use only services that you trustand that offer adequate security and
protectionagainstharmful software.

1. Get started
■Install the SIM card and the battery
Always switchthedevice offand disconnect the charger before removing the battery.
Keep all SIM cards out of the reach of small children.
For availabilityand information on using SIM cardservices,contact your SIM card vendor.
This may be the service provider, network operator, or other vendor.
This device is intended for use withthe BP-6Mbattery.
The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratches or bending, so
be careful when handling, inserting, orremoving the card.
1. With theback ofthe phone facingyou, slide
thebackcovertoremoveit fromthephone(1).
2. To remove the battery, lift itas shown (2).

3. To release the SIM card holder,gently pull the
lockingclip of thecard holder,and open it (3).
4. Insert the SIMcard into theSIM card holder
(4). Make sure that the SIM cardis properly
inserted andthat the golden contact area on
the card is facing downwards.
Close theSIMcard holder, and press ituntil it
snaps into position.
5. Replacethe battery (5).
6. Slide theback cover into place (6).

■Install a memory card
Yourphone’s miniSD cardcontains pre-loaded ringtones,
themes, tones, and graphics. If youdelete, reload, or replace
this card, these functions/features may cease to function
properly.
Use only compatible miniSD cards with this device. Othermemory cards, suchas reduced
sizeMMCs,donotfitin thememorycard slot andarenotcompatible with this device. Using
an incompatible memory cardmay damage the memory cardas wellas the device, and data
storedon the incompatible card may be corrupted.
You can use a memorycard to extend the memory ofGallery.SeeGalleryp. 98.
You caninsert or change the memory card without switching the phone off.
Important: Do not removethe memory cardin the middleof an operation when
the card is being accessed.Removingthe cardin the middle ofan operationmay
damagethe memory card as well as the device,anddatastored on the card maybe
corrupted.
To insert the memory card, openthe memory card holder as shown (1). Place the
memory card in the card holder (2). Make surethat the memory card is properly

insertedandthat thegoldencontactareaonthecardis facingupwards.Closethe
memory card holder.
You canuse the memory card to save your multimedia files, such asvideo clips,
sound files, and images, inGallery.
To format the memorycard, see Format memory card p. 99.
■Charge the battery
Checkthe modelnumberof any charger beforeuse withthisdevice.This deviceisintended
for use when supplied with power from the AC-4, AC-1, AC-3, or DC-4 charger.
Warning:Useonlybatteries, chargers,and enhancements approvedby Nokiafor
use with this particular model. The use of any other types may invalidate any
approval or warranty, and may be dangerous.

disconnectthepowercordofanyenhancement,graspandpullthe plug,notthecord.
