EMERGENCY CALLS
Ensure the device is switched
on and in service. Press the
end key as many times as
neededtoclearthe display
andreturntothemainscreen.
Enter the emergency number,
then press the call key. Give
your location. Do not end the
call until given permission to
do so.

■Network Services
To use the device you must have service
from a wireless service provider. Many of
the features in this device depend on
features in the wireless network to
function.These Network Services may
not beavailable on all networksor you
may have tomakespecificarrangements
withyour serviceproviderbeforeyoucan
utilize them. Your service provider may
need to give you additional instructions
for their use and explain what charges
will apply. Some networks may have
limitations that affect how you can use

shared memory features before

Scroll method
You can use the joystickto move up,
down, left and rightthrough the
options. Press the joystick to select
anitem.

Menu, and scroll
through the
main menus
using the joystick.
Asyouscrollthrough the menus,
the menu number appears in the
upper right corner ofthe display.
On the right side ofthe display
screen isa scroll barwith atab
thatmoves up ordownasyou
scroll through the menus. This
tab provides a visual
representationofyourcurrent
position inthe menu structure.
2. Whenyouarriveatamenu,press
the joystick, Select,to enter
submenus.SelectBack (theRight
selection key) to return to the
previous menu. Press the end key
to return tothe standby mode
fromanymenuorsubmenu.
■Go to function
TheGo to menu allows you to
change whatyou can access from
theLeft selection keyonyour
device.Withthisfunction,yourmost
frequentlyusedfunctionscan be
quickly accessed fromtheGo to
menu in the standby mode.
Choose Go to functions
1. Gotocanbeaccessedbypressing
the Left selection key; or, in the
standby mode, select Go to >
Options >Select options.
2. Use the joystick tohighlightthe
desiredfunction.
3. Select Mark to add a function.
Select Unmark to remove a
function.
4. Select Done when you have
added all desired functions.
5. Select Yes tosavethe changes.
6. Inthestandbymode,selectGo to
to displaya list of the functions
thatyouselected instep3.

1. In the standby mode, select Go
to > Options > Organise.
2. Use the joystick to scroll up or
down and highlight the function
you wish to rearrange, and select
Move > Move up, Move down,
Move to top orMove to bottom.
3. Select Done >Yes to save the

■Antenna
In the Nokia 6235 phone, the
antenna is internal andlocated
towards the top ofthe device.
Hold the device as
you wouldany
other telephone
withtheantenna
areapointedupand
overyour shoulder.
Note: As
with any other radio
transmittingdevice, do not
touch the antenna
unnecessarilywhenthe
device isswitched on.
Contact withtheantenna
affectscall quality and may
cause the device tooperate
at a higher power level than
otherwise needed.Not
touching the antenna area
duringaphonecalloptimises
theantennaperformance
and battery life.
■Change battery
Note: Beforeremovingthe
cover, always switch offthe
power and disconnect the
chargerandanyotherdevice.
Avoid touchingelectronic
components while changing
the covers. Always store and
use the devicewiththe
coversattached.
Remove the back cover
With the back ofthe device facing
you, slide thebackcover toward the
bottomofthedeviceandremove.

Remove the battery
After you have removedthe back
cover, insertyour finger into the
finger grip, and lift the battery from
itscompartment.
Replace the battery
1. Insert the gold-coloured contact
end of the battery, into the
batteryslot.
2. Pushdownontheotherend of
the battery to snap the battery
into place.
Replace the back cover
1. Setthe back cover on the device
so that the cover tabs alignwith
the slots inthe device.
2. Slide the back cover towardsthe
top ofthedeviceuntil the back
cover issecurely in place.
Important: Do not remove
thefrontcoverofthis
device.Attempts toremove
thefrontcovermaydamage
thedevice.
Charge the battery
1. Plugthechargertransformerinto
a standard ac outlet.
2. Insert the charger output plug
intotheroundjackatthebottom
end of the device.

Afterafewseconds, the battery
indicator inthe display starts to
scroll from bottom totop. If the
battery is completely discharged,
it may take a few minutes before
the charging indicator appears
on the display or before any calls
can be made.

off
To turn your device
onoroff,pressand
hold the Power key on top of the
device for at least 3 seconds.
■Connect the headset
Youcanconnectacompatible
headset,suchasHS-5,toyourdevice.

1. Plug the headset connector into
the Pop-Port™ connector at the
bottom end of your device. The
iconappears in the standby
mode.
2. Position the headset onyour ear.
Withtheheadset connected, you
can make, answer, and end calls
as usual.

• Press the end key to end a
call.
You canalsoplug a compatible
headset,suchastheHS-9Universal

■Answer calls
Answer or silence an
incoming call
• Press the call key or select
Answer to answerthecall.
• Presstheendkeytorejectthecall.
• Select Silence to mute the
ringing tone then select Dismiss,
or donothing and the call is
eventually diverted tovoicemail.
IfyourdeviceissettoSilent inthe
Settings > Profiles menu,select
Dismiss,andthecallisrejected
and divertedtovoicemail.

Adjust the earpiece volume
Whether in oroutofacall, you can
scroll thevolume key located on the
leftsideofyourdeviceupordownto
adjustthe volumeofthe earpiece.
When you adjust the volume, a bar
chart indicates the volume level.
Answer a call with the
keypad locked
To answeracall with the keypad
locked, press the callkey or select
Answer. During the call, all features
functionnormally.Whenyou end or
reject the call,the keypad
automaticallyrelocks. See
”Keyguard” on page 11.
Whenthekeypadlockison,callsstill
may be possible tothe official
emergencynumberprogrammedinto
your device. Enter the emergency
number and press the call key.
Use the loudspeaker
Warning: Do not hold the
devicenearyourearwhen
the loudspeaker isin use,
because the volume may be
extremelyloud.
You can use your device as a
loudspeaker:
• Toactivatetheloudspeakerwhile
in a call select Loudsp.
• To deactivatethe loudspeaker
during a call,select Normal.
The loudspeaker is deactivated
automatically when a call (or acall
attempt) ends or when certain
enhancements are connected.

Many ofthe optionsthat you can
useduringacallarenetworkservices.
Check with yourwireless service
providerfor more information.
1. Select Options during acall to
display the following:
Loudspeaker/Normal — Activate
or deactivate the loudspeaker
while in a call.
New call — Initiate a conference
call.See”Conferencecalling”on
page10.
Save — Adda number whilein a
call toyour contactlist. This
option is available only when
entering numbers during acall.
Add to contact — Add a contact
whileinacalltocontactlist.This
option is available only when
entering numbers during acall.
End all calls — Disconnect from
all active calls.

Send DTMF — Enter the
number(s), and select Send DTMF
tosendthenumber(s)astones.
Contacts —Viewthecontactslist.
Menu — View the phone menu.
2. Scroll toan option, and Select to
activatethe option or enter its
submenu.
■Make a call
To makea call, in thestandby mode,
enter the numberyou want tocall
and press the call key.
Use the contacts list
To begin entering names in your
contactslist:
1. Keyinthenumberinthestandby
mode.
2. Select Save.
3. Entera contact nameand select
OK.
Tousethecontactslist,inthe
standby mode, select Menu >
Contacts >Search and scroll to the

Use the keypad
1. Enterthephonenumber(including
the area code), and press the call
key. To delete a character to the
left of the cursor, select Clear.
2. Press the end keyto end the call
or select End call to cancel the
call attempt.
Use the last dialled number
1. In thestandbymode, pressthe
call keyto display the last30
numbersdialled.
2. Select the number (or name) you
wish toredial, and pressthe call
key.
Conference calling
Conference calling is anetwork
service that allowsyou to take part
in aconference call with two other
participants.
1. Makeacalltothefirstparticipant.
2. With thefirst participant onthe
line, select Options > New call.
3. Enter the phone number of the
second participant, orselect
Search toretrieveanumberfrom
the contactslist.
4. Select Call andthefirst
participant isput on hold.
5. When the second participant
picksup,press3andthenthecall
key to connect the calls.
6. To end the conference call, select
Options >End all calls orpress
the end key.
