NovaFlex RIBBON Series User manual

1. VERIFY PRODUCT IS CORRECT
Pre-light using the wiring diagrams in this guide to power your
ribbon/neon to ensure color/Kelvin temperature is correct.
Note: Do NOT connect max runs.
2. TURN POWER OFF AT CIRCUIT BREAKER
SHOCK HAZARD! Turn power OFF at circuit breaker prior to
installation, to avoid serious injury or death.
3. DETERMINE LOCATION TO INSTALL
Dry-t the lights to the desired location BEFORE removing the
adhesive backing. Refer to the CONFIGURATION GUIDE for a list
of products and zone locations.
Skip to step 6 to mount the ribbon without a channel.
Skip to step 10 to mount neon.
4. CUTTING THE CHANNEL FOR RIBBON
To determine the cut length, place the LED ribbon beside the
channel, add 1” to account for the Lead Lock Heat Shrink around
the lead. Snap the lens and end cap into place and secure with
masking tape at the cut mark to protect the lens from cracking.
Cut using metal rated saw blade. If cut is rough, use a metal le to
smooth the edges. Clean any remaining slivers of metal or plastic
to insure a clean install.
If installing Surface 1707 or Surface 1919: After cutting, remove
lens and measure 0.39” from end and cut just the lens to
account for the end cap.
5. MOUNTING THE RIBBON IN CHANNEL
a. Channel, directly to the Surface
Install channel directly to the surface with the provided screws.
You will need to pre-drill the holes before installation or use
self- tapping screws when installing onto metal.
b. Channel with Clips
Screw clips to the surface at the beginning and end of
each section and then about every 1.5 ft in between. For
certain channels, you can utilize the clips to connect channel
(see diagram).
c. Universal Clips
Attach the provided channel clips to the Universal
Clips. Then install at least four clips for every 2M
of channel, to the surface with screws. Snap your channel into
the channel clips and secure the channel by pinching the clips
around the channel.
d. Mud-In
Prep the wall for the channel base by measuring the
channel width and cutting into the drywall. Then, slide the
channel in the wall, with the wings resting on the drywall.
(Optional: Secure the channel in place by using screws in the
mud-in holes.)Then, mud over the wings to secure the channel.
6. PREP SURFACE PRIOR TO INSTALLING RIBBON
To ensure lasting bond, use the provided alcohol wipe to prep the
surface. For slippery surfaces, pre-sand the area before installing
the lights or use the 3M Primer 94.
7. INSTALL END CAP WITH HOLE (OPTIONAL)
Slide the lead through the hole of the end cap and snap it into the
channel and conrm the t. If lead is to the back, drill hole through
the channel for the lead to go through.
8. MOUNT THE RIBBON
Once t is conrmed, begin peeling the backing and gently
pressing the ribbon into place, slowly working your way towards
the end of the ribbon. This process will make it easier to handle
the ribbon, especially in longer runs. In channel, center the ribbon
starting 1/8” away from the end cap with the hole.
Note: Adhesive MUST BE REMOVED for proper heat dissipation.
Do not let the LEDs hang when installing, as this could add
stress to the solder connections.
9. INSTALL LENS (OPTIONAL)
Once the ribbon is in place, install the lens by pressing it into
place, starting from one end and working your way to the other,
then snap the solid end cap onto the open end.
10. CUTTING THE CHANNEL FOR NEON
Measure the length of the neon and subtract 3.62” to allow room
for the end caps. Then measure the length of the channel and
mark on the channel where you plan to cut.
Example: 35” run of neon would need to have a 31.38” channel.
Cut using a metal rated saw blade. If cut is rough, use a metal
le to smooth the edges. Clean any remaining slivers of metal to
insure a clean install.
11. MOUNTING THE NEON WITH CHANNEL OR CLIPS
Install channel or clips directly to the surface with screws. You will
need to pre-drill the holes before installation or use self-tapping
screws when installing onto metal.
Then gently press neon into the channel/clip, where it will lock
into place with the locking clamps. If you need to remove the
neon, use a pliers to gently pinch the clamps to pull the neon out.
12. TURN POWER ON AT CIRCUIT BREAKER
Once your ribbon or neon is connected, turn the power on at the
circuit breaker.
