IMPORTANT - SAFETY
It is essential t at qualified engineers w o are experienced in forced draug t gas and pressure jet oil
burner commissioning carry out t e following instructions and adjustments. In t e UK it is a legal
requirement t at anyone working on gas installation, as defined in t e Gas Safety (Installation & Use)
Regulations 1994 is CORGI registered. T e manufacturer cannot be eld responsible for any conse-
quential damage, loss or personal injury as a result of failure to follow t ese instructions, or as a result
of misuse.
EMERGENCY INSTRUCTIONS
T is product as been designed and constructed to meet all of t e essential requirements of t e GAS
APPLIANCE DIRECTIVE 90/396/EEC and ot er applicable European Directives. Under normal circum-
stances t is product s ould not give occasion to any azardous conditions. If suc a condition s ould
occur during commissioning or subsequent use of t is product, be it a fault of t e burner, t e appliance
or of any instrument, mac ine or service in t e proximity of t e burner, t en t e FUEL and ELECTRIC-
ITY supply to t e burner s ould be IMMEDIATELY ISOLATED until suc time t at t e fault as been
investigated and rectified.
EUROPEAN BOILER EFFICIENCY DIRECTIVE (B.E.D.)
All burners and boiler bodies marketed seperately wit in t e European Union must comply wit EN676
- Gas Burners, EN267 - Oil burners and EN303 - Heating Boilers. Burner adjustments must be made in
accordance wit boiler manufactures instructions, and t ese must include flue gas temperatures, average
water temperature, and CO2or O2 concentration.

Developed from Worldwide field experience, t e
NDFL100-38 sets new standards in efficient and
reliable operation. T e burner is designed to meet
t e requirements of all international markets.
Delivered ready to install wit prewired packaged
control system and plug in gas train.
Air Regulation
Air for combustion can be adjusted to give
maximum efficiency. A closed position air control
is incorporated as standard.
Controls & Operation
Flame supervision is by U.V. cell (Gas) and
p otocell (Oil). Microprocessor controllers are
employed for automatic start-up, running, and
s utdown of t e burner.
Fuel
Natural gas and lig t distillate oil Class D (1.5-5.5
cSt @ 40°C).
GENERAL
T is manual is structured to enable t e user to
proceed from t e delivery of t e burner to its
commissioning and use.
T e conditions to be fulfilled and t e controls and
adjustments to be used are dealt wit in t e
sequence t at s ould be followed for t e correct
installation and use. Pre-commissioning and Live
Run are described, and t e location of necessary
controls and adjustments to undertake t ese are
illustrated and supported by appropriate tabular
matter and grap s.

SERVICES & SITE CONDITIONS
Gas Supply
T e gas supply pipework must be constructed and
installed in compliance wit t e appropriate Codes
and Standards, and comply wit all local
conditions. It s all be of sufficient size to satisfy
t e pressure and volume flow requirements of t e
burner under all firing conditions.
FEATURES A 90° manual isolation valve must be fitted
upstream of t e gas control train to allow t e
burner to be isolated for maintenance.
To avoid any restriction in gas flow t e size of t is
valve s ould not be less t an t at of t e gas train.
Fuel Oil Storage and Handling
T e requirements of BS2869 will ensure t at t e
fuel is suitable. Under sustained cold and exposed
conditions, class D grade of fuel s ould be stored
and supplied to t e burner at a minimum
temperature of 5°C (14°F).
Fuel Oil Supply
T e oil line s ould consist of copper tube (NEVER
galvanised steel). T e final connection to t e pump
inlet port is made wit a flexible pipes supplied
wit t e burner. Joints s ould be made wit
compression fittings.
W en gravity feed is used, t e maximum ead
s ould not exceed 4m, (35 kPa). T e return side of
t e burner pump MUST be piped into t e oil
supply line at a distance of no less t an 1 Metre
from t e pump inlet connection T is will prevent
t e oil attaining temperature from t e oil pump
w ilst t e burner is firing on gas.
On installations w ere t e fuel tank is situated
below t e level of t e burner t e maximum
suction permitted is 40 kPa (300 mm HG) and a
two-pipe (supply and return) fuel supply system
MUST be used.
Gravity feed system
On a single pipe (gravity feed) system, t e pump
s ould be primed under gravity from t e tank and
not by running t e pump mec anically. To prime
t e pump remove t e purge plug, connect t e
purge port to a suitable container.
Suction lift System
T e suction line will require priming before
energising t e pump mec anically. It is essential
to ensure t at t e return pipe is not obstructed in
any way. Any obstructions will damage t e pump.
T e fuel supply line may need priming if t e oil
storage is allowed to drain completely.
Flue and C imney Requirements
T e flue and c imney must be constructed and
installed to t e appropriate local conditions, Codes
and Standards. It s all be of sufficient size to satisfy
t e volume of flue gases at all firing conditions.

Plant Room Ventilation
An adequate dust free supply of fres air is required
for t e burner at bot ig and low level in
accordance wit t e appropriate standards.
Existing Appliances
In preparing t e appliance to receive t e burner, a
careful inspection s ould be made of its condition
after it as been cleaned t oroug ly to remove all
ad ering tars, scale and dirt.
Combustion C amber Conditions
W en t e burner is fitted to an appliance designed
to work under balanced or negative combustion
c amber conditions, t e over-fire draug t must not
exceed 0.25 mbar.
S ould t e over-fire draug t exceed t is figure,
t en steps s ould be taken to reduce it to t is level.
ASSEMBLY
Fit t e gas train to t e gas inlet mounting flange
using t e gasket nuts and was ers provided.
Ensure t at t e gasket is seated correctly w en
tig tening t e assembly.
Connect t e four number-coded plugs from t e
gas valves V1 and V2, t e gas pressure switc and
t e gas butterfly valve to t e GAS MPA22 controller
sockets 2,3,7 & 14 respectively.
Do not force t e plugs into t e sockets. If difficulty
is encountered, c eck t e coding to ensure correct
location.
INSTALLATION
General
C eck t at t e burner is appropriate for t e
appliance rating. Detailed burner performance
data is given on page XX.
Fitting to t e Appliance
If t e burner is to be fitted to a new packaged unit,
refer to t e manufacturers recommendations.
If t e burner is to being fitted to an existing
appliance, prepare t e mounting flange as detailed
on page 5.
Ensure t e joint between appliance and burner is
effectively sealed wit t e gasket provided.
Unless ot erwise specified, t e flame tube s ould
be flus wit t e inner face of t e appliance
combustion c amber.
Electrical Power Supply
Connect a t ree p ase 50Hz electrical supply to
t e burner observing all applicable IEE Regulations.
Connect all of t e applicable external auxillary
controls.
Refer to t e electrical supply specifications and
connection diagrams s own on pages 8 to 14.
If supplied as a packaged appliance/burner unit
refer to t e manufacturers instructions.
BURNER AIR CONTROLS
A motorised air flap controls t e air for
combustion. It is located inside t e air inlet, see
page 5.
Air Diffuser
T e air diffuser creates a pressure drop to ensure
good fuel/air mixing and flame stability.
Air Pressure Switc
T e air pressure switc is required to prove ad-
equate air flow t roug out t e burner operating
cycle. Air flow failure at any stage after pre-purge
will result in a lockout, failure during pre-purge
will result in four restarts before a lockout.
BURNER GAS CONTROLS
Gas Nozzle
T e ole in t e gas nozzles is designed to suit t e
output of t e particular burner model and gas type
being used.
Gas Pressure Switc
T e low gas pressure switc is located between
t e two gas valves and as two functions: -
To monitor t e gas pressure during t e burner
operating cycle. A low gas pressure will result
in t e safe s utdown of t e burner.
T e c eck t e gas leak integrity of t e valves.
INTEGRATED VALVE PROVING SYSTEM
T e burner comes complete wit an integrated
Valve Proving System.
A leakage test is performed after every controlled
s utdown.
A leakage test is performed before t e burner is
started after a power failure or fault reset.

Functional sequence
After a controlled s ut-down, t e second main
valve is closed after a 2-second delay. T e pressure
in t e test section is t us evacuated and t e gas
pressure switc opens. A test of t e first main valve
(V1) commences and during t e first pre-set test
period. T e gas pressure switc must remain in
t e open position, ot erwise t e burner will
lockout and a fault code for valve 1 leaking will
be displayed
At t e completion of t e first test period t e first
gas valve is momentarily opened and t e test
section is pressurised wit gas, t e gas pressure
switc closes. A test of t e second main valve (V2)
commences during t e second pre-set test period.
T e gas pressure switc must remain closed,
ot erwise t e burner will lockout and a fault code
for valve 2 leaking will be displayed.
At t e end of t e second test period t e valve
proving is complete.
BURNER OIL CONTROLS
Oil Nozzle
T e oil nozzles are fitted to t e front end of t e
inner assembly and located in t e flame tube.
T e nozzles s ould be sized to matc t e rating
and turndown requirements of t e appliance.
Oil Control Train
T e oil control train consists of a ig pressure fuel
pump driven by t e burner fan motor.
Eac oil nozzle is controlled by an individual
solenoid valve. A furt er solenoid valve acts as a
safety s ut off for all nozzles.
MPA 22 CONTROL UNITS
Engineers who are not experience with this
unit shoul rea all the notes an proce ures
before attempting to commission the burner.
A seperate MPA22 controller and display unit is
provided for eac fuel. T e display unit, as s own
on page 18 is used to program t e MPA, and to
retrieve information from it.
T e system as many functions; several of t em
need a pass-code before t e user can obtain access
to t em. Entering t is code is described in t e
following text.
W en using t e keys on t e display unit, t e best
results are ac ieved by using a slow deliberate
pressure of about ½ to 1 second in duration.
Entering t e pass code.
Press key numbers (1&2) toget er for a full
commissioning or keys (+&-) toget er for a part
commissioning.
T e display will s ow seven s ort lines, t e first
flas ing and is ready to accept t e code.
The efault pass-co e is 8904236.
To enter t e first number (eig t) press t e plus (+)
key eig t times, or t e minus (-) key twice
(10-8=2).
Eac press of eit er key, plus or minus (+/-) will
result in flas ing line dropping down indicating t at
t e press as been recorded.
Press key (2) to move to t e next number, t e
second line will start to flas . To enter t is number,
(nine) in t is illustration, press (+) key nine times,
or t e (-) key once (10-9)=1. Again t e flas ing
line will drop to indicate it as been recorded.
Press key (2) to move to t e next number, zero,
t e t ird line will start to flas . Zero requires no
action t erefore move to t e next number, (four).
Continue t is procedure until all t e numbers ave
been entered.
W en t e last number as been recorded, press
t e acknowledgement key. T e procedure is
complete.
If required, pressing key number (1) will return t e
flas ing line to t e previous position.
NDFL - GAS
OPERATION
W en t e burner is switc ed on t e start procedure
begins: -
T e M.P.A. completes a series of internal tests.
Bot t e air and gas motors c eck t eir reference
positions.
T e air damper moves to t e ig fire position.
Air pressure switc is c ecked to ensure t at it is
in t e open position.
T e flame monitor c ecks if flame is present.
If t e above is successful, t e fan begins t e pre-
purge.
During t e pre-purge and t ereafter t e air
pressure switc monitors t e air pressure.

T e gas stepper motor opens fully, above 90° and
t en closes to t e ignition position.
After t e pre-purge period, t e air damper moves
to t e ignition position.
At t e start of t e ignition and t ereafter t e gas
pressure switc c ecks t e gas pressure.
Ignition takes place and t e burner starts to fire.
COMMISSIONING THE BURNER
Re-c eck t at t e electrical wiring is complete and
complies wit all Codes and Standards. C eck
fuses are fitted and correctly sized.
Re-c eck t at t e gas pipework is correctly
installed and t ere are no leaks.
Set t e low gas pressure switc to just above t e
minimum and t e air pressure switc to minimum.
C eck t at t e appliance is in a proper and safe
state to be fired.
Set t e appliance controls to call for eat.
Set t e Fuel Selector switc to Gas (refer to control
panel identification on page 7).

C eck for Valve Closure
All gas train assemblies are fully leak tested before
despatc . A test of t e individual gas valves is
difficult wit out specialised testing equipment.
However, t e following c eck can be performed
to test t e security of t e valve system.
Fit a manometer to t e test point at t e inlet to
t e upstream main safety valve. Open t e main
upstream manual valve for a few seconds, t en
close and secure t e gas supply.
T e manometer will detect any gas leakage and
will prove t at gas is not leaking past t e gas train.
If no drop in pressure is recorded t en
commissioning can continue until a full valve
proving test is completed by t e integrated proving
system.
Gas Supply Pressures
Refer to t e gas supply pressure grap s on pages
20 to 24 of t is andbook. T e supply pressure
must not exceed 100mbar. All pressures s own are
measured w en t e burner is at full firing rate.

Fit a manometer or ot er approved pressure
measuring instrument at t e test point on t e
upstream main safety valve. Open t e main
isolating manual gas valve. C eck t ere is adequate

ESTABLISHING MAIN FLAME
General Notes
In t e following sections, reference is made to
c ecking gas flow rates at t e gas meter. T is is
t e most accurate met od of determining
t roug puts and s ould always be used w enever
possible. Information regarding t e burner ead
gas pressures is s own on pages 20 to 25. T ese
are intended as a guide to initial burner settings,
but s ould not be relied upon to offer proof of
actual t roug puts.
IMPORTANT After eac adjustment, gas flow rate
and flue gas analysis s ould be c ecked.
ALWAYS use approved test equipment.
NEVER rely on a visual inspection of t e flame as
a guide to combustion quality.
Commissioning Procedure
T e Nu-way NDFL burner as been delivered wit
initial gas and air settings. T ese ave been applied
to t e burner during t e test and inspection p ase
of its manufacture. W ilst t ese settings may
enable t e burner to operate, t ey are not intended
to be final settings. A full commissioning
proce ure must be compete .
T e procedure consists of t e following: -
Entering t e pass code.
Reviewing t e air and gas set points.
Firing t e burner.
Commissioning t e burner.
Completing t e procedure.
Refer to page 17 for a functional description of
t e Display unit.

rotation, w ic s ould be anti-clockwise, viewed
from t e motor end. If t e rotation is incorrect,
please refer to Fault Finding to correct it.
Restart a fres from entering t e pass code and
allow t e burner to fire at position P0.
Press (+) to move t e control point to P1,
t e Low Fire position.
C eck t at t e gas pressure is not excessive.
Visually c eck for a clean, safe and stable
flame, adjusting t e air damper to suit if
necessary.
Press (+) to move t e control point to P2,
again making any adjustments to keep t e
flame safe and stable.
Follow t e above procedure t roug P3, P4
etc. until position P9, t e ig fire position,
is obtained.
Wit t e gas butterfly set at 90°, adjust t e
governor on t e SKP20 valve to give t e
required ig flame gas flow.
Adjust t e air damper position to give t e
required combustion analysis. Note the air
amper position.
Switc off t e burner and restart t e
procedure from entering t e pass code.
Adjust t e value of t e air damper at P9 to
t at noted above.
Scroll t roug to t e GAS EL display and start
t e burner.
At t e ignition point P0, adjust t e air and
start gas values to give a good lig t up.
Ensure that the start rate gas flow oes
not excee 30% of the high flame gas
rate. Note the gas an air positions.
Move to point P1 and adjust t e gas butterfly
to give t e required low flame gas flow. Adjust
t e air damper to give t e required
combustion analysis. Note the gas an air
positions.
Switc off t e burner and re-start t e
procedure from entering t e pass-code.
Adjust t e value of t e gas and air settings to
t ose noted at points P0, P1 and P9.
Scroll t roug to t e GAS EL display and start
t e burner.
Move to point P2, t e firing rate will increase.
Adjust t e air damper to give t e correct
combustion analysis.
Repeat t e above procedure for points P3
t roug P8, fine tuning t e combustion
analysis as required.
W en t e burner is firing satisfactorily, return
t e burner to set point P9.
Two furt er points Bu and Bo, w ic correspond
to t e minimum and maximum firing rates can
now be set using t e air damper angles t at were
set at P1 and P9 respectively.
Press keys (1) and (2) toget er to access t e
display point Bu. Wait until t e display is
steady. Adjust t e value to reflect t e air
damper angle at P1.
Press keys (1) and (2) again to access t e
display point bo. Wait until t e display is
steady. Adjust t e value to reflect t e air
damper angle at P9.
Finally, press keys (1) and (2) again to enter
t e information into memory.
T e procedure is now complete.
FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
Setting t e Air Pressure Switc
Switc off t e electrical supply to t e burner.
Remove t e air pressure switc cover. Fit a
manometer to t e pressure switc to c eck t e
accuracy of t e dial.
Re-establis t e electrical supply.
Enter t e pass-code as described on page 13 for a
part commissioning. T e default settings will not
be displayed. Switc on and t e burner will purge
t en fire at point PO. Slowly turn t e adjusting
dial clockwise until t e flame is extinguis ed; t e
burner may go to lockout. Turn t e dial one
division anticlockwise and let t e burner restart, if
t e burner fails to start, turn t e dial anot er
division anticlockwise. Repeat t e above
procedure at one division per cycle until t e
burner operates. Adjust t e dial a furt er two
divisions anticlockwise.
Switc off t e burner, isolate t e electrical supply,
fit t e cover and remove t e manometer.
C ecking t e Flame Signal
T e flame signal can be c ecked by using a micro-
ammeter. T e minimum signal required is 15 µA.
