Important Prerequisites
6
2.1 Important Prerequisites
2.1.1 Jukebox Condition
The successful installation of your OS2 Upgrade Kit(s) requires that your current hardware be in good working
condition.
Before proceeding with installation of the OS2 Upgrade Kit(s), it is imperative that you verify that all currently installed
electronic components are fully functional. You must also inspect the cabinet or enclosure to ensure that it has not
sustained damage that would inhibit or prevent the installation of any equipment provided with the OS2 Upgrade Kit
- either internally installed functional components, or externally applied aesthetic enhancements.
2.1.2 Broadband Internet Connection
OS2 Upgrade Kit installation requires a broadband Internet connection. The broadband connection allows:
• Songs selected by patrons that are not on the hard drive are downloaded immediately, ahead of all other pending
downloads
• Support for the TouchTunes Mobile application
• Change jukebox settings remotely, in real-time, via the TouchTunes Tempo site (https://tempo.touchtunes.com)
For all connections, ensure you use high-quality cable and make the cable run as short as possible to minimize
potential problems due to line noise and interference.
Wireless Broadband Connection
The TouchTunes Wireless Broadband hardware kit (P/N 600263-001) contains everything you will need to provide
your jukebox with a wireless broadband Internet connection. This kit comes with its own installation guide (Wireless
Broadband Installation Guide (AT&T Beam) (P/N 901024-001) that will guide US operators through the proper steps
for setting up a wireless broadband connection. This guide can also be found on the TouchTunes Product & Warranty
site, at http://productwarranty.touchtunes.com in the Product & Technical Documentation section.
For Canadian operators, use the hardware kit P/N 600187-001 and the Wireless Broadband Installation Guide
(Rogers) P/N 900764-001.
IMPORTANT: Installing a TouchTunes OS2 Upgrade Kit does not fix a broken or deactivated
jukebox.
IMPORTANT: The OS2 Upgrade Kit installation does not support dial-up Internet connections.
NOTE The broadband modem and router can be included in a single device, depending on the equipment
used by the ISP and the networking setup for the location. Both the broadband modem and the
router must be installed and configured properly for Internet access before you can set up a
broadband connection for the jukebox.

all settings beforehand so that you can set them to these values after the upgrade which includes the hard drive
replacement.

Accomplishing the procedures described in this section requires the use of the following tools and equipment:
• Screw drivers (slotted and Phillips head)
• Nut driver or hex-head screw driver, assorted sizes
• Cable ties for dressing cables
• Wire cutters
2.3 Estimated Time to Complete the Installation
The degree of complexity and time to complete the installation may vary slightly, depending upon the installer’s
experience and comfort level in working with electronic equipment and hardware.
A typical installation can usually be completed in approximately 45 minutes.
2.4 Unpacking and Checking OS2 Upgrade Kit Components
The TouchTunes Universal Computer and I/O Board Upgrade Kit (P/N 600305-001) for jukeboxes may be delivered

correct model.
NOTE 2 The hard drive for the new computer is shipped separately. Make sure you have received the
hard drive before proceeding with installation. If the hard drive has not yet arrived at your
location, contact TouchTunes.
NOTE 3 The TouchTunes Power Supply Unit Upgrade Kit (P/N 600306-001) is ONLY required for

3.1 Removing JCB or JCB+ for JCB Computer
To prepare your jukebox for installation of the OS2 Upgrade Kit, you must disconnect and remove the existing
computer (JCB or JCB+ where applicable).
The following shows the location of the computer in an MX-1 jukebox.
Location of computer in MX-1 jukebox
This procedure applies to a jukebox equipped with a JCB or JCB+ for JCB computer.
To remove the computer:
1. Power off the jukebox.
2. Disconnect all electrical power to the jukebox.
3. Unlock and open the jukebox front door.
4. Disconnect the AC power cord from the power strip and from the AC inlet on the bottom panel of the computer.
5. Locate the two locking slide rails on either side of the service tray at the rear of the cabinet’s interior.
WARNING: To prevent risk of electrical shock when performing the following procedure or
any other maintenance on your jukebox, the jukebox must be powered off and its electrical
power disconnected.

then pulling back as far as they can travel.
• Gently push the service tray outward, letting it slide along the rails.

NOTE Prior to performing the next step, it is recommended to use cable flags (or just pieces of tape) to
tag each cable that connects to the jukebox computer, indicating which socket it goes into on the
computer. At a minimum, you should label all the Ethernet cables (network, Zones 1 to 3, MIC and
AUX IN, DMX) as these are very easy to mix up.
