Picture Card TM (hereinafter referred to as "the card"). If you shoot pictures with
this camera without using an xD-Picture Card, the pictures will be recorded in
the internal memory. For details on the card, please refer to "The card" (P. 53).

Recording movies

Shooting mode is selected
This function is used to set the camera to turn on in shooting mode when It_ is pressed with the camera off.

The last picture taken is displayed.
• Press the arrow pad to view other pictures.
• Use the zoom lever to switch between close-up playback and index display.
• Press o%_to hide the information displayed on the screen for 3 seconds during single-frame playback.
This function is used to set the camera to turn on in playback mode when [] is pressed with the camera off.

Set the mode dial to the desired shooting mode
The camera determines the optimum settings for shooting pictures
[CAMERA MENU] settings such as [WB], [ISO] cannot be changed.
PSet the optimum aperture value and shutter speed
The camera automafically sets the optimum aperture value and shutter speed for the brightness of the subject.

• The scene selection screen displays sample images and the shooting
mode to best suit the situation
• To switch to a different scene mode after a scene mode has been
selected, press MI=NU to select [SCENE] from the top menu and display
the scene selection screen.
• By switching to another scene, most settings will be changed to the
default settings of each scene

• There may be cases in which the camera cannot detect a smiling face.
• When [SMILE SHOT[ is selected, the self-timer lamp fights Shooting is not available while the self-timer

Follow the shooting guide displayed on the screen to set the target items.
• Press MENU to display the shooting guide again.

setting by pressing MENU or changing the mode using the mode dial.
Shoot pictures by comparing previews of different effects
Select one of the [1 Shoot w/effects preview] options from time
[SHOOTING GUIDE] menu to preview' a live, multi-frame window on the
monitor showing four different levels of the selected shooting effect. You
can use the four preview frames to compare and select your desired
setting/effect.
• Use the arrow pad to select the frame with the settings you v/ant, and
press _. The camera automatically switches to shooting mode and
allows you to shoot with the selected effect.

Shooting mode: Changing picture brightness
Press _,_+_/_[_ in shooting mode, select a picture in your desired
brightness with <_>, and press _',_

Playback mode: Printing pictures
Display a picture to print out in playback mode, connect the camera to the printer, and then press/k_/_ to
print the picture.

Press <_,_ in shooting mode to select the macro mode. Press _o_for setting.
OFF Macro off Cancels macro mode.
Macro on This mode lets you shoot from as close as 10 cm/3.9 in. (when
the zoom is set for the zoom-out angle) and as close as 60 cm/
23.6 in. (when the zoom is set for the zoom-in angle) to your
subject.
s_ Super macro This mode lets you shoot from as close as 5 cm/2.0 in. to your
subject.
The zoom position is fixed automatically and cannot be changed.
Press _ in shooting mode to select on or off for the self-timer.
Press _) for setting
OFF Self-timer off Cancel the self-timer.
_) Self-timer on Set the self-timer.
• After setting the self-timer, press the shutter button completely. Then the self-flmer lamp lights for
approximately 10 seconds, blinks for approximately 2 seconds, and the shutter is released.
• To cancel the self-timer, press _b_)
• Self-timer shooting is automatically canceled after one shot.
Press _> _ in shooting mode to select the flash mode.
Press f_ for setting
AUTO Flash auto The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight conditions.
@ Redeye This emits pre-flashes for red-eye reduction.
Fill-in The flash fires regardless of the available light.
(_ Flash off The flash does not fire.

Press I_I in shooting mode. The monitor becomes brighter. If there is no operation for 10 seconds, the
previous brightness resumes
Erasing pictures
In playback mode, select the picture you want to erase, and press f_.
• Once erased, pictures cannot be restored. Check each picture before erasing to avoid accidentally erasing
pictures you want to keep.

The white area is the optical zoom area. The red area is the
digital zoom area. When the slider enters the red area, the

AUTO Sensitivity is automatically adjusted according to the conditions of the
subject.
50/100/200/400/ A low value lowers the sensitivity for daylight shooting of clear, sharp
800/1600 pictures. The higher the value, the better the camera's light sensitivity and
ability to shoot with a fast shutter speed and in low light conditions.
However, high sensitivity introduces noise into the resulting picture, which
may give it a grainy appearance.
o
FINE ZOOM .............................. Zooming in on your subject without reducing image quality
OFF /ON This function allovcs you to zoom up to approximately 15x by combining
the optical zoom and image cropping There is no deterioration in the
image qualify since data conversion (by increasing pixel resolution) is not
performed.
• The available magnification varies depending on the [iMAGE QUALITY]
setting
• The available [IMAGE QUALITY] setting is [SQ1] or lower.
(still pictures) ....................................................................... Recording sound with still pictures
OFF /ON When activated [ON], the camera will record about 4 seconds of audio after
the picture is taken.
When recording, aim the camera microphone at the source of the sound
you want to record.
