Taking the hassle out of home theater, Onkyo presents the HT-S3400 package: a full-featured A/V receiver coupled
with a quality six-piece speaker set. To handle the latest Blu-ray, gaming, and cable/satellite devices, the receiver sports four
new HDMI®inputs. HDMI opens the way to lossless, high-definition audio from Dolby and DTS, as well as immersive
new 3D video content. It also supports a convenient Audio Return Channel from a compatible HDTV back to the receiver.
Handy analog audio and video inputs on the receiver’s front panel make it easy to hook up your video camera or game console.
And rounding out the connection highlights is a Universal Port that lets you connect peripherals such as an optional
iPod/iPhone dock. Audyssey equalization filters work to optimize your audio experience, while an overlaid on-screen
display allows seamless adjustment of the system’s settings during a session. A superbly balanced 5.1-channel speaker set
completes the package.

HDMI®Support for 3D Video and Audio
Return Channel
The four HDMI inputs on the HT-S3400’s A/V receiver let
you simultaneously connect high-def sources such as a
Blu-ray player, a game console, and a cable/satellite tuner.
A single output then sends a pristine signal to your
connected high-resolution display. The HDMI
implementation on this receiver supports both 3D video
and an Audio Return Channel. 3D video brings exciting
possibilities to home enter tainment, with movie, game, and
broadcast content on the increase and 3D-compatible TVs
coming to market. Meanwhile, the Audio Return Channel
allows audio content received directly by your HDTV’s
tuner to be sent “upstream” via HDMI to your A/V receiver,
without the need for a separate S/PDIF audio cable.
Decoding of High-Definition Surround-Sound
Codecs
The HT-S3400’s A/V receiver can decode Dolby®TrueHD
and DTS-HD Master Audio™—two lossless formats that
enable delivery of a bit-for-bit soundtrack identical to the
studio master track. These codecs take advantage of the
high data capacity of the Blu-ray Disc format.
Convenient Overlaid On-Screen Display via HDMI
Changing your A/V receiver’s settings is now more seamless
than ever, thanks to Onkyo’s overlaid On-Screen Display
(OSD) feature. On-screen set-up menus appear overlaid on
the video image you’re watching. This means you can adjust
the settings immediately, without having to switch back and
forth from a blank screen background.

Jitter Performance to Deliver Clearer Sound
High-quality Burr-Brown DACs work to optimize analog
audio performance on the HT-S3400’s A/V receiver. These
DACs perform advanced 24-bit signal processing and
support sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, while displaying
high resistance to clock jitter.

Experience
The HT-S3400 comes with two sound-enhancing Audyssey
technologies.

Universal Port for Single-Cable Connection of

A proprietary Universal Port located on the rear side of
the HT-S3400’s A/V receiver lets you connect an optional
UP-A1 Dock for iPod/iPhone. A key advantage of the
Universal Port is that it accepts video and audio signals
through the same cable that sends a power supply from
the receiver to the devices. et result: more connectivity,
less cable clutter.

EX.Bass for Deeper, More Dynamic Bass
Onkyo’s proprietary EX.Bass function boosts low-frequency
output at two separate points: 40 Hz and 80 Hz. At low
volumes, EX.Bass creates a deeper, more dynamic bass
sound for your music and movies. When the volume is
turned up high, the boosted bass automatically returns to
normal levels.
Advanced Music Optimizer to Enhance
Compressed Digital Music Files
While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine through the
headphones of your portable digital player, the limitations of
these files can be exposed when played back through a
quality home entertainment system. This is because a
significant amount of high-frequency bit information is lost
during the file-compression process. To counter this, Onkyo
has designed the Advanced Music Optimizer to
compensate for lost bit information and improve the quality
of compressed audio signals. This results in a clearer and
more expansive sound. Also included in this technology is a
loudness correction feature that further improves the audio
character of compressed files.
