Equipment must be grounded. If it should
malfunction or break down, grounding
provides a path of least resistance for
electrical current to reduce the risk of
electrical shock. This equipment is equipped

conductor and grounding plug. The plug
must be plugged into a Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupter (GFCI)--protected outlet or adapter
that is properly installed in accordance with
all local codes and ordinances. Do not remove

EN OPERATION
65000--Sc DM20001 (3--11)
HOW THE MACHINE WORKS
The 5000--Sc is a cleaning solution generator that
electrically restructures water and salt to create a
safe concentration of sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
cleaning solution. This cleaning solution can
effectively replace most conventional cleaning
chemicals.
The 5000--Sc is very easy to use. The cleaning
solution can be dispensed from either the bottle fill
receptacle for bottles or smaller containers, or
from the dispensing nozzle for larger containers,
buckets, or machines.
MOVING THE MACHINE
Only TENNANT authorized personnel are
permitted to move the 5000--Sc.
WHILE OPERATING THE MACHINE
Periodically check the indicators on the display
panel to ensure there are no conditions that need
to be cleared. Any condition must be cleared
before the 5000--Sc can be used again.
Avoid running the system completely out of salt.
Water softener salt should be added to the salt
reservoir when the Add salt indicator flashes. Refer
to Filling the Salt Reservoir section of this manual.
CLEANING SOLUTION
The 5000--Sc cleaning solution will clean most
soiled or dirty surfaces (nylon and polyester
carpeting, glass, metal, ceramic, laminate, painted
surfaces, and other non--porous surfaces), but is
not recommended for cleaning heavy petroleum
based oils and greases. The 5000--Sc cleaning
solution also does not kill bacteria, so it must not
be used to sanitize or disinfect surfaces.
NOTE: Always check carpet manufacturer
specifications for color stability and shrinkage
properties before using a water--based solution on
carpeting.
Do not dilute the 5000--Sc cleaning solution with
water. Water will diminish the cleaning
effectiveness The 5000--Sc cleaning solution is
ready to use after dispensing.
FOR SAFETY: Do not mix 5000--Sc cleaning
solution with conventional cleaning
chemicals. Do not drink. Refer to MSDS
(Material Safety Data Sheet) for additional
safety information and precautions.
The 5000--Sc cleaning solution does not pose a
skin or eye hazard. The concentration of sodium
hydroxide in the cleaning solution is approximately
0.001%. For good hygiene practice, it is
recommended that personnel wear appropriate
protective gear when cleaning.
The 5000--Sc cleaning solution will remain
effective for 30 days or more when stored in a
clean sealed container. Test the cleaning solution
to verify the pH level is at the correct level if the
solution has been stored for longer than 30 days.
Refer to TESTING THE CLEANING SOLUTION
in MAINTENANCE for additional testing
information.
NOTE: The temperature for the room / location
where the 5000--Sc cleaning solution is stored
should be between 50--110°F (10--43°C).
