Getting started
Location
Youneedtoplacethebaseunitwithin2metresofthe
mainspowersocketandtelephonesocketsothatthe
cableswillreach.Makesureitisatleast1metreaway
fromotherelectricalappliancestoavoidinterference.Your
cordlessphoneworksbysendingradiosignalsbetween
thehandsetandbase.Thestrengthofthesignaldepends
onwhereyousitethebase.Puttingitashighaspossible
ensuresthebestsignal.
Handset range
The range is up to 300 metres outdoors when there is a
clearlineofsightbetweenthebaseandhandset.Any
obstructionbetweenthebaseandhandsetwillreducethe
rangesignificantly.Withthebaseindoorsandhandset
eitherindoorsoroutdoors,therangewillnormallybeupto
50metres.Thickstonewallscanseverelyaffecttherange.
Signal strength
The icon on your handset indicates when you are in range.
Whenoutofrangeofthebasetheiconflashesandthe
handsetgivesanout-ofrangewarningtoneeveryminute.
Thistoneisrepeateduntilyoumovebackintorange.
Ifyoumoveoutofrangeduringacall,thetelephonecall
willbedisconnected.Movebackwithinrangebeforeyou

at all times. Do not plug the telephone line cord into the

Battery low warning
If the iconflashesinthedisplay,youwillneedto
rechargethehandsetbeforeyoucanuseitagain.
Duringcharging,the icon in the display will scroll.
Battery performance
Inidealconditions,fullychargedbatteriesshouldgive
about10hourstalktimeor100hoursstandbytimefroma
single charge.
Notethatnewbatteriesdonotreachfullcapacityuntilthey
havebeeninnormaluseforseveraldays.
Thechargecapacityofrechargeablebatterieswillreduce
withtimeastheywearout,givingthehandsetlesstalk/
standbytime.Eventuallytheywillneedtobereplaced.
Batteriesandhandsetsmaybecomewarmduringcharging.
This is normal.
Tip!
It is good practice to put the cordless handset on the
charging cradle when it is not in use to ensure that the
handset is always fully charged.

The eco85 can accommodate a total of 5 cordless
handsets.
If you have a Broadband line
If you connect your telephone to a line with a broadband
connection, you must connect an in line filter (not supplied)
between the telephone socket and your phone base to
ensure that your broadband and eco85 will work properly.
If you do not install the filter you will experience interference
on the cordless phone and your Broadband may suffer
dropouts. Please refer to the user guide of the in line filter
for installation.
In a home with broadband, every telephone, fax or
answering system must have a in-line filter connected,
not just the one at the telephone point that your modem is
connected to.
Additional in-line filters can purchase from electronic
stores.
• Observetheproperpolarity,ordirection,ofanybattery.
Reverseinsertionofthebattery cellcanresultin
leakageorexplosion.
• Removethebatteriesifyoudonotplantousethe
product for several months at a time.
• Followthe localregulationsregardingthedisposalof

Charging the batteries
Beforethehandsetisusedforthersttime,insertitinthe
base/chargingstationforatleast14hours.
The handset warms up during the charging process. This
isnormalanddoesnotrepresentarisk.Donotchargethe
handset with charging units from other manufacturers. The
batterychargestatusisindicatedinthedisplay.Whenthe
batterychargehasreacheditslowerlimitvalue,thebattery
icon ashesinthedisplay.

Creating phone book entries
Upto20phonenumberswiththeirassociatednamescan
bestoredinthephonebook.Eachentrycanbeassigned
a specific ringing melody which then identifies the call.
Alwaysenterthephonenumberswiththeareacode;
thisenablesacorrectdisplayoftherespectivecallerfor
whomthereisanexistingentryandwhosephonenumber
transmissiontoyourconnectionisavailable.
Creating a new entry
PressthePhoneBookbutton.Ifno

(recalltime)mustbesetinordertousethisfunction.The
salesoutletwhereyoupurchasedtheexchangecanprovide
informationastowhetherthetelephonewillworkproperly
withtheexchange.Pleaserememberthatwhenentering
numbersinthephonebook,enterthenumberforanoutside
lineanddiallingpause(press"0"longer)too,ifnecessary.
Supplementary Network services from the telephone
network provider
Yourtelephonesupportssupplementaryservicesprovided
byyourtelephonenetworkprovider,suchascallwaiting
and conference facilities. These supplementary services
canbeusedbyimplementingtheRbutton.Alsocontact
yourtelephonenetworkproviderwithregardtoenabling
supplementary services.
