Purpose:
Install and use the HAND-HELD BARCODE SCANNER to manually scan sample barcodes and
configured quality control barcodes when there is no Lab Information System (LIS) or to scan
VITROS®MicroTip reagent pack barcodes and VITROS®MicroWell reagent pack barcodes
during a manual load.
Note:
Not all products and systems are available in all countries.
IMPORTANT:
THE BARCODE SCANNER CANNOT BE USED TO SCAN BARCODES ON SLIDE
CARTRIDGES.
Materials
required:
•BARCODE SCANNER with CABLES
•BARCODE SCANNER STAND
•BARCODE CONFIGURATION SHEET
IMPORTANT:
WAIT UNTIL ASSAY PROCESSING COMPLETES BEFORE YOU PERFORM THIS
PROCEDURE.

1. Shut down the system.
2. Move the KEYBOARD aside, and then feed the 2 SCANNER CABLES up through the hole in the bottom of
the TRAY ARM.
3. Disconnect the KEYBOARD CABLE, and then connect each end of the KEYBOARD CABLE to the
corresponding SCANNER CABLE.
4. Set the KEYBOARD back in place.
5. Restart the system.
6. From the Main Menu, touch Options & Configurations ⇒Configure System ⇒PSID.

7. When the system displays the “Configure PSID Checkdigit” dialog box, note which option or combination of
options (“Code 39”, ”Codabar”, and/or “IL 2 of 5”) are enabled for Checkdigit.
8. Scan the barcode(s) on the CONFIGURATION SHEET that correspond to selected Check Digit options on
your system. The CONFIGURATION SHEET has been included with the BARCODE SCANNER packaging
and is also presented below. Each pair of barcodes on the sheet is assigned a number and system dialog
screenshot as shown below:

The numbers on the CONFIGURATION SHEET correspond to the numbers and descriptions in the following
table:
Code 39 without checkdigit (Scan

Here are two examples that show how to use the “Configure PSID Checkdigit” dialog box and the table of
numbers and descriptions to determine which barcodes may be scanned:
Example 1 — The “Code 39” checkbox is checked, but the “Codabar” and "IL 2 of 5” checkboxes are not
checked.
In this situation, you can scan the following barcodes:

9. Place the SCANNER STAND where the SCANNER CABLE will not interfere with DOORS, COVERS, or
normal system operation.
Note: An optional Barcode Scanner Holster (Cat. No. 6844498) is available ONLY for the VITROS®XT
3400. The holster attaches as an extension of the keyboard tray.
