Genera nctio
The heating process of an oven system is divided into various burning phases / stages:
1 Standby phase
2 Heating up phase
3 Heating phase
4 Embers phase
5 Standby phase
The ORTNER Combustion control ensures an optimal sequence of the burn-off phases
of the furnace installation Components such as the sensor and the combustion air ap
ensure accurate control, which not only ensures ease of operation, but also maximum
efciency
By determining the maximum temperature in the heating phase, and a calculation based
thereon, the optimum shutoff time of the combustion air ap is dened At this time, the
combustion air damper is automatically closed and the embers phase begins In this phase,
an open combustion air ap would lead to an undesirable, faster cooling of the furnace
installation
Thanks to the control, the maximum heat output is achieved, which is delivered to the
room as a soothing heat radiation
A correct combustion
is critical in order to
enable the pleasant
prolonged heat radiation
in the room.

Storage corner 09-70/40/38

Important information
The correct amount of combustion air is a
deciding factor for optimal combustion It affects
the degree of efciency, ie the amount of energy
that can be extracted from the wood Furthermore,
it ensures an optimal air volume for a clean burn,
clean observation windows and an environmentally-
friendly combustion When the optimal closing time is
reached, the storage of the masonry heater is not
cooled by the supply of fresh air and as a result
does not reduce the storage duration The ORTNER
combustion control safeguards the optimal energy yield
with a maximum degree of safety
In the event of a power failure, the
combustion air register of the control unit
is opened automatically
Initial start-up
During the initial start-up and restart as well as
following a power failure, for safety reasons, the
control always starts in the heating up phase and the
combustion air register remains open Therefore,
in the event of a power failure during the heating
process, the fuel is burnt safely
In the event that the temperature is
>50°C - <250°C following a power failure,
the control remains in the heating up phase
When the temperature is >250°C, the control switches
to the heating phase
When the temperature remains below a temperature
of 50°C during a waiting period of 60minutes,
the control will return to the standby mode Only then
will the combustion air register close again

• The embers phase begins
• Optimal heat storage is enabled
Renewed refuelling with wood in order to increase the storage duration

• In the event that wood should be added again for combustion, this
should be performed during the embers phase In this case, the combustion
starts again When relling on the still fresh embers, only add half the wood
amount

All important data is presented on the display during the combustion In this manner,
you can continuously see the temperature and the status of the heating process When the
control switches into the embers phase, the display will dim Only when a new combustion
is begun will the display light up again brightly and all status messages will be displayed

Installation of the WLAN module with mobile devices
1 Disconnect the control from power
2 Set the switch on the WLAN module to the LEFT POSITION
3 Switch the control on
4 Activate your WLAN on your telephone or tablet and connect with ORTNER-… (eg
ORTNER-lower)
5 Launch your web browser (Internet) and enter http://1234 in the search bar
Congratulations, you have successfully connected with the WLAN module and can now
access all data online.
The ORTNER combustion control. Using the WLAN module, you can also receive
all data on mobile devices. The combination with the LED display
also serves as an additional variant in order to be able to see the current
combustion phase without the use of a smartphone, tablet or PC.

INTEGRATION IN AN EXISTING PERSONAL WLAN NETWORK
In this example, Internet Explorer and Windows 7 are used; the
procedure is similar or identical to that used with other operating systems and web
browsers.
1 Switch off the control (disconnect from power)
2 Set the switch on the WLAN module to the centre position and connect the module to
the control
3 Switch the control on
4 Move the switch on the WLAN module to the left after at least 5seconds and return
it to the centre position after approx 1second
5 Using a device with wireless connectivity (notebook, smartphone, tablet, etc) search
for the “ORTNER” WLAN and connect to this
6 Open a web browser and enter http://1234 in the address bar

Page 15
7 Press “Refresh List” in order to receive a list with the available networks
8 Select the desired network and enter the password of your personal network in “Pass
phrase” The settings are saved by pressing “Save Conguration”
9 Switch the control off and back on after approx 5seconds

Try to locate teh module‘s IP assress, under the following possibilities:
1 Windows
Use the SoftPerfect Network Scanner application
http://wwwsoftperfectcom/download/freeware/netscanzip
2 First press “Auto Detect IP Range” and then “Start Scanning”
3 Search the MAC address that is noted on the module’s mounting,
eg 00-06-66-81-05-3F

Page 17
4 Enter the corresponding IP address in the web browser http://<IP-Adresse>/
In this example 1921681116 http://1921681116/
5 Android and iPhone
The free app “Fing” is available for Android and iPhone:
https://playgooglecom/store/apps/details?id=comoverlookandroidng&hl=de
https://itunesapplecom/at/app/ng-network-scanner/id430921107?mt=8
6 Search the MAC address that is noted on the module’s mounting,
eg 00-06-66-81-05-3F, the IP address is noted immediately above it Enter this in
your web browser

Heating up errors
Display text of the glass display
TEMP1 230°C
Heating error – Door closed – Heating error – Register open – Heating error – Heating time
= 61min - Heating error – TEMP2 = 80°C
Possible cause
• The temperature is >50°C, it does not increase above 250°C within 60 min
• This means that the re fails to start burning properly (eg the wood is too damp)
• An insufcient amount of wood was inserted or replenished
Correction
Following a power failure or after each opening and closing of the door, the control
switches into the heating up phase and the error message is acknowledged The
combustion phases are run through again However, when the temperature drops below
50°C during this error message, it is also acknowledged and the control switches into the
rest phase

Sensor error – Door closed – Sensor error – Register open – Sensor error – Heating time –
100min – Sensor error – (Temp2 = 29°C)
Possible cause
• The contact of the temperature sensor is interrupted
• Temperature sensor is defective
Correction
Check the contact connection of the cables on the compression tting of the control When
the tting of the cable is secure and has been connected correctly, then the thermocouple
must be replaced When thermocouple 2 is defective, then it is no longer displayed Please
contact your stove tter in order to have the thermocouple replaced

TEMP1 52°C
Temperature increase – Door closed – Temperature increase – Register open –
Temperature increase – (Temp2 = 38°C)
Possible cause
Temperature increase in the combustion chamber (>50°C) by the self-ignition
of the inserted wood amount as a result of still present residual embers
Correction
Should this error message occur, the control will begin the heating up phase, starting
from a temperature >50°C The combustion air register opens and the wood is burnt
safely Only add a new amount of wood in the combustion chamber immediately before
ignition in order to prevent the self-ignition by the residual embers

Display text of the glass display
No display text present
Possible cause
• The LED cable is defective
• The compression tting on the LED is not secured correctly
• Short-circuit
• Power failure
Correction
First check the compression ttings of the LED cable on the control When the
compression tting of the LED on the control is secured correctly, the cable or the LED
is defective Please inform your stove tter in order to have the LED replaced Measures
for improvement and avoidance should be taken in order to prevent the damage from
occurring again Please consult us
