Amigo R5 bodyworn with
Advanced Bionics Harmony
You will need:
•The Amigo R5 bodyworn receiver
•A mono to stereo adapter (available from Electronics shops
very cheaply). Looks like this
•Audio interface cable from
Advanced Bionics which looks like this
•A direct connect cable from Advanced
Bionics which looks like this
•A direct connect earhook from
Advanced Bionics which looks like this
What to do:
It is necessary to consult with the cochlear implant centre about
which program should be used for FM.
1) Turn off the Harmony processor by removing the battery
pack. Turn off the Amigo R5 receiver.
2) Plug the mono to stereo adapter into the Amigo R5 receiver
output jack.

3) Put the direct connect earhook on to the Harmony processor
by holding it in the correct alignment and then pushing it
firmly into place until a very small click is heard.
4) Connect the direct connect cable into the direct connect
earhook.
5) Plug the other end of the direct connect cable into the audio
interface cable.
6) Finally plug the other end of the audio interface cable into
the mono to stereo adapter.
7) Ensure that the volume control on the Harmony and on the
receiver are set to the minimum setting.
8) In this order
-turn on the FM transmitter
-turn on the FM receiver
-connect the battery to the Harmony processor thus
turning it on.
9) Gradually increase the volume on the processor to the
everyday setting.
10) Gradually increase the volume on the FM receiver to a
comfortable listening level.
11) Complete a listening check.
Troubleshooting
A steady red light on the FM receiver indicates that it is working. A
flashing red light means the FM system is not working.
If the red LED light is not on or is flashing
-Check the power switch and batteries
-Change the batteries in the processor (just in case the problem
is here)
-Check the battery in the transmitter
-Make sure that the receiver and transmitter are synchronized.
Try switching the processor on and off by lifting the battery lock and
then pushing it down again.

If the LED is blinking red
-Is the transmitter switch depressed?
-Is the receiver on a different channel to the transmitter
-Is the mic correctly plugged in to the transmitter?
-Is the cord correctly plugged in to the receiver?
If the red light still does not come on
Test the receiver by using an Oticon listening testing set.
Alternatively, if you have a hearing aid and stetoclips available, you
could connect the receiver to the audio shoe on the hearing aid and
listen to it using the stetoclips.
If the LED now comes on, this indicates that there is a problem with
the processor itself. In this case, you need to contact the CI centre.
Try changing the channel if there is poor sound quality or
interference.
Have you checked?
•Are the FM transmitter and receiver on the same channel?
•Are the cables on the FM transmitter or receiver frayed or
kinked?
•Has the transmitting distance been exceeded?
•Do the batteries for the FM transmitter and or the receiver
need replacing?
•Is the microphone on the transmitter working?
•Are the FM settings set appropriately?
•Has the processor program been set up for FM?
•Have you observed areas in the classroom that can cause dead
spots in the transmission by checking with the FM system
yourself?
•Have you tried reducing the volume or gain on the FM receiver?

•Have you tried a different FM channel?
•Have you replaced the audio interface cable to check if it is
working?
•Have you replaced the direct connect cable?
