Fitting Oticon Intiga instruments is easy and full of possibilities
Reading this manual
Genie 2011.2 or a later version must be used to program
Oticon Intiga instruments.
The first sections take you through the selection, handling
and configuration of instruments, Receivers and earpieces.
These are important matters to consider to provide the best
possible care and achieve a successful fitting.
The next section takes you through the instrument
programming step by step.
As an alternative to the standard programming process, a
“Quick Fit” flow can be selected in Genie. If selecting
“Quick Fit”, the programming section in this manual is
only advisory.
The “Quick Fit” programming is a fast track taking you
through the most basic top level settings.
The programming section also includes a description of
how the ConnectLine applications are programmed,
together with an explanation of the ConnectLine concept.
The final section of this manual covers miscellaneous
service instructions and guidelines relevant to the various
instrument styles.
This manual is designed to help you achieve success with
the Oticon Intiga family.

Oticon Intiga is designed to meet the specific needs of
users who are looking for a non-traditional hearing
instrument: discreet, small and easy to handle. Being a
full featured RITE hearing instrument Oticon Intiga is
suitable for all types of hearing losses within the mild to
moderate range. It is built upon our newest and well-
known audiology and technology with the overall aim of
quick acceptance and immediate benefit in quiet and
noise.
Oticon Intiga is available in three feature configurations:
Oticon Intiga 10 – is the full featured premium solution for
clients seeking better understanding in difficult listening
situations and clear spatial sound throughout the day and
who request comfort features. Intiga 10 is also the choice
for clients who enjoy high music fidelity whether listen-
ing the traditional way or by using wireless streaming
with Connect[+]. The 10 kHz fitting bandwidth combined
with advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Premium [+]
makes Intiga 10 the ultimate choice.
Oticon Intiga 8 – is the versatile solution for those
requesting the benefits of well established and proven
instrument technology. In addition to advanced direction-
ality and noise management technologies, Intiga 8
applies binaural synchronisation to provide a balanced
and stabilized listening experience. With 8 kHz fitting
bandwidth, full connectivity and AI Advanced [+], Intiga 8
offers a reliable choice.
Oticon Intiga 6 – provides the essentials of modern
hearing care in the same discreet and comfortable
housing. Fundamental features and full connectivity
through ConnectLine makes Intiga 6 a good affordable
choice.
The Oticon Intiga family belongs to the RITE category and
comes with a new Standard Receiver system, offering
improved, discreet cosmetic fitting.

The Oticon Intiga device has a top shell with clean lines
contributing to the discreet appearance. Oticon Intiga is
delivered with the top shell separate from the base shell
and components. This allows the placement of the
Receiver with the required length for the user and the
programming of the instrument before the top shell is put
in place.
You will need to remove and/or replace the top shell in the
following instances:
• Initial programming of the Intiga devices
• Changing the Receiver
• Follow up programming of the device
Programming Oticon Intiga for the first time
Intiga is shipped ready for the selected Receiver and the
Programming Top Shell to be positioned.
1. Attach the Receiver by aligning the pins in the base shell
with the Receiver.
2. Proceed to page 30 for the next step in programming
Oticon Intiga.
The Top Shell
Customising Oticon Intiga
1. Attach the top shell by inserting the front hooks into the
base shell.

2. Lower the other end to snap into the base. 3. When the top shell is placed on the base shell, there will
be a small gap between the shells creating the sound
inlet to the microphones.

Changing the Receiver:
1. Remove the top shell with the Service Tool. Note that
the shape of the grip of the tool follows the shape of
the Oticon Intiga instrument.
Insert the hook of the back arm between the top shell and
battery drawer (a) and push down on the other end lifting
off the top shell (b).
2. To remove the Receiver, insert the hook on the front
arm of the Service Tool into the slot in the top of the
Receiver plug (a). Tilt the tool until the ball is seated in
the programming socket (b). Continue tilting the tool
lifting the Receiver out of the base (c).

Selecting and Fitting Receiver Units
Five Receiver lengths are available for the Standard
Receivers. No. 1 is the shortest and No. 5 is the longest.
The lengths most commonly used are size 2 and 3.
At the canal portion of the Receiver, the end is red or blue
indicating the speaker side, i.e. red for right ear and blue
for left ear.

Measuring the ear for correct Receiver length
When fitting a Standard Receiver the correct measure-
ment corresponds to the top of the ear canal as shown
using the Oticon measuring tool. The measurement is
the same for all domes and custom earpieces.
The Receiver should sit comfortably and be hidden in the
ear canal and the wire should lie flush with the head.
The ear grip can be used for better Receiver retention.
The ear grip is designed to work for both the right and left
ear. Insert the ear grip in the slot in the Receiver.

If the ear grip is too long in the concha it may be trimmed.
Use caution not to leave a pointed end as this may irritate
the ear.
Pull the ear grip until its top is
positioned in the slot. During
insertion, the top should point
away from the dome as illustrated.
Use a finger nail to dislodge the ear grip and push from
the other side.
1. Insert the earpiece (Dome or Mould) into the ear canal.
2. Place the hearing device behind the ear. The Receiver
unit with the correct earpiece should be placed far
enough into the canal so that the wire lies flush with
the client’s head. When looking directly at the client, you
should not see the Receiver wire sticking out.
3. If necessary add the ear grip for extra retention.

Shaping the Receiver Unit
To ensure the hearing device correctly fits the ear, it may
be necessary to manipulate the Receiver. This is
especially true if the Receiver wire is too short and the
client reports that the earpiece tends to slip out or it
cannot be inserted deep enough in the ear canal.
The first step is to try another dome size. Sometimes a
smaller dome size will allow the Receiver unit to be placed
further into the canal.
If the wire is still not flush, you can change the curve of the
Receiver wire by straightening it a little or changing the
insertion depth. This is not a difficult procedure and the
following steps are important to avoid damaging the
Receiver unit:
• Use a hair dryer or spectacle instrument at low heat
setting.
• Heat for a short time – a matter of seconds.
• Bend into desired shape and keep shape until wire
is cooled off.
• Do not use excessive heat and do not exceed 130°C.
Lengthening the Receiver
• To add length to the Receiver straighten the S portion
of the Receiver wire as marked.
Bend into the Canal
• Adjust this bend to stop the wire from bowing out from
the side of the client’s ear, or to increase the depth of
Receiver insertion.

Dome and Intiga Micro Mould selection for Standard Receiver Selecting Dome
The Open Dome is available in three different sizes:
6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm. The most commonly used is
the medium sized 8 mm Dome.
The Open Dome is suitable for hearing losses up to 70 dB in
the high frequencies and is the best option for most users.
The Plus Dome allows more mid-frequency gain and
extends the fitting range to 80 dB HL in the high frequen-
cies. It is suitable if the user requires greater loudness or
more mid-frequency gain. Genie will automatically prescribe
Open or Plus Dome. The Plus Dome is available in one size.
You also have the possibility of selecting Power Domes
for closed instant fittings up to 80 dB flat hearing loss.
The Power Dome is available in four different sizes:
6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm.

These custom moulds are produced from a traditional,
deep impression and are a good choice in cases with
retention problems.
Custom RITE Moulds can be ordered in the following styles:
Canal, Canal with lock, Skeleton or Half shell.
RITE Intiga Micro Moulds for the Standard Receiver
The Intiga Micro Mould is an acrylic custom solution that
can be used instead of a dome for a RITE fitting.
Intiga Micro Moulds and RITE Moulds are produced from a
traditional, deep impression. The Adapter clearly
indicates Right (red)/Left (blue) colour marking.

Short Vents Long Vents
Intiga Micro Moulds use tube-shaped vents, as in tradi-
tional ear moulds, but the length is shorter. Therefore, the
Intiga Micro Mould vent effect is much larger compared to a
traditional vent with the same diameter.
The largest vent possible is made unless specified when
the Intiga Micro Mould is ordered. For further information
about selecting vent sizes and effective vent sizes please
refer to the Genie helpfiles under Acoustics.

Canal RITE Moulds use tube-shaped vents just like Intiga
Micro Moulds. Consequently, the effect of the canal vent is
larger than a traditional vent with the same diameter.
Genie prescribes the vent size (from X Large to No Vent)
when Intiga Micro Mould is selected. To reflect the actual
diameter select the vent size for long vents, e.g. Large
(long).

Attaching the Intiga Micro Mould
When fitting Oticon Intiga RITE hearing devices with Intiga
Micro Moulds follow the instructions below:
Find the correct Receiver unit length and attach it to the
instrument (see Selecting and Fitting Receiver Units).
1. Carefully insert the Receiver into the Intiga Micro Mould
and push until you hear/feel a click. Position the speaker
and Intiga Micro Mould to be in the same orientation, i.e.
the “up” indicators in the same direction. On the Intiga
Micro Mould, the coloured dot indicates the “up” direction.
The location of the slot for the ear grip indicates the
“up” direction on the Receiver. The curved area on the
Receiver can be used to push it into the Intiga Micro
Mould.
2. When inserting the Receiver into a modified Intiga Micro
Mould with a longer canal, use the Mould tool to snap
the Receiver more deeply into the Mould, as illustrated
on the following page.
3. The Mould can rotate axially over an arc of approximately
15° to ensure maximum comfort. Before placing the
Mould in the ear, turn the Mould until the up indicator
points upwards.

Note: Make sure that the Receiver is not angled when inserted into the Mould. An incorrect angle will prevent the Receiver
from engaging the Adapter. The click sound indicates that the Receiver is placed correctly and only minimal force should
be applied. Never force the Receiver and the Mould together!

Removing the Intiga Micro Mould
The Mould cannot be detached from the Receiver without
the Intiga Micro Mould tool. When detaching the Intiga
Micro Mould follow the instructions to the right:
1. Remove the WaxStop.
2. Place the tool in the Intiga Micro Mould as illustrated
making sure that the cross in the Adaptor is aligned with
the tip of the tool. Angle the removal tool slightly so it
follows the slight angle of the receiver in the Intiga
Micro Mould.
3. Press the tool into the Mould to release the Receiver unit.
4. Now the Intiga Micro Mould can be removed from the
Receiver unit.
5. Never remove the existing NoWax from the Receiver.
It is part of the locking mechanism.

Intiga is shipped ready for the selected Receiver and the
Programming Top Shell to be positioned. In the NOAHlink
Properties Advanced -- Advanced Settings menu, insure
that the “HI Power State” is On.
Do NOT insert a battery into the Intiga when using the #3
programming cable. The power to Intiga will be provided by
the programming cable.
1. Attach the Receiver by aligning the pins in the base shell
with the Receiver.
2. Attach the Programming Top Shell by inserting the front
hooks into the base shell and lower the other end until it
snaps into the base.

3. Attach the #3 programming cable to the top shell.
Thread the cable through the ‘tail’.
Use of the Programming Top Shell is
vital for accurate programming of
Intiga. The Programming Top Shell
ensures accurate operation of the
Feedback Manager and In-Situ
Audiometry. Omitting the Program-
ming Top Shell will affect the acous-
tics and sound quality of Intiga when
using the Fitting Assistant. Lastly,
the use of the Programming Top Shell
ensures a reliable and stable connec-
tion during the fitting process.

4. After programming, remove the cable and then the
Programming Top Shell by holding the unit as shown
and lifting the tail up.
Do not remove the programming shell by forcing it side
ways!
1. Remove the top shell with the Service Tool.
2. Attach the Programming Top Shell.
3. Program Intiga as needed.
4. Remove the Programming Top Shell.
5. Attach the regular top shell.
When the top shell is placed on the base shell, there will be
a small gap between the shells creating the sound inlet to
the microphones.

For greater flexibility and patient comfort, use nEARcom
for a cable-free fitting of Oticon Intiga instruments.
Note that programming of Oticon instruments requires
that the TM#1 module (870-10-030-00) is installed in an
available slot.
Detect the instruments
1. Switch on the instruments using fresh batteries.
2. Lay nEARcom on the table and place the instruments
in the middle of the neck loop in the orientation shown
here.
3. Click Detect for cordless programming.

Instruments which have never been programmed must be
assigned to the correct side – left and right – in Genie.
Use a BEEP test as follows:
To identify the instruments place them in the middle of the
neck loop and click BEEP f.ex. for the left ear. The instrument
will beep for 6 seconds.
While the instrument is beeping, remove it (left instru-
ment) from nEARcom and listen to it.
If the instrument (left) does not beep, return it to the
middle of the neck loop, click Change side icon 1and click
the same BEEP. Listen to the instrument (left) again.
Click Continue and proceed with the programming.

Main programming steps
1. Client: Appears only when running Genie outside NOAH.
2. Counselling: Appears only if Gateway has been installed.
3. Family: Selection of all hearing instrument families.
4. Selection: Select instrument styles and features
(including Streamer).
5. Fitting: Verifying and fine tuning of settings.
6. End Fitting: Verify and set user operated buttons
and link Streamer(s).
Task Pane – Vertical Navigation
In each organizer step there is a Task Pane that gives
access to tools and links related to where you are in the
fitting process.

Family Step
Click ‘Detect’ to detect connected instruments. Genie will
display what has been detected. Click Continue to go to the
selection screen.
Note: You can simulate a fitting by selecting ‘Oticon Intiga’
from the Family circle. Select Oticon Intiga 10, Oticon Intiga 8
or Oticon Intiga 6 from the second level screen that opens.

Selection Step
Oticon Intiga is available as a RITE with a dome or custom
mould option. The earpiece options available for Intiga will
be displayed.
If you are fitting ConnectLine or adding one or two
Streamers as remote controls to the Intiga instruments,
select Streamer in the feature list.
In the Personal Profile you can provide extra information
and thereby ensure a more personalized fitting for your
client.
Fitting Step
The Connection Bar indicates the connection status of the
instruments. The three states are:
1. Grey - Not connected and data changed in Genie is not
saved in the instrument
2. Yellow - Connected and settings are programmed but
not stored in the instrument
3. Green - Connected and settings are programmed and
stored in the instrument and in Genie.
The Adaptation Manager provides easy access to an
acclimatisation process in three steps. Changing steps
effect gain, compression and the frequency response.
Instruments can be fine tuned in 10, 8 and 6 independent
frequency channels for Intiga 10, Intiga 8 and Intiga 6
respectively. By default, the channels are gathered in
three frequency regions: LF, MF and HF.
Soft (45 dB SPL), Moderate (65 dB SPL) and Loud (80 dB
SPL) input levels can be adjusted. Select all three LF, MF or
HF controls by clicking the LF, MF or HF button in the table.
By selecting “All”, all gain controls will be selected, the
colours of the control values are blue (left) and red (right)
when the device is at prescribed settings.
If the control value is no longer at prescribed settings,
the value turns black.
