TuneAmp FOCUS SET-UP (continued)General Description
NOTE: Both models are the same in appearance. To
determine which model you have, look at the inside of
the battery door. If you see a blue dot, you have the Base
model. If there’s an empty space, you have the Plus model.
4General Description
Ovation Shift comes in two models:
Shift Base and Shift Plus.
Shift Base has a single microphone that picks
up sounds from all directions. It is ideal for quiet
listening environments.
Shift Plus has two microphones, offering true
directionality for those times that you want to suppress
background noise. The Shift Plus model is ideal if your
lifestyle includes a variety of environments. This model
works great in quiet environments PLUS it allows you
to focus on sounds coming from a particular direction
in noisier situations.

General Description 5
Ovation Shift comes standard with two common size thin tubes (left and
right) fitted with sleeve tips that will fit most users. A vented dome is also
included, in case you decide you want more bass sounds. (SEE PAGE 8.)
The thin tube delivers amplified sound from the Shift into your ear. It is
important for the sound tube and tip to fit properly in your ear. If you
need a different size tip or tube, call 1-800-595-8101 or visit
www.OvationHearing.com to purchase the appropriate size.
The patented rocker switch is used during initial set up to lock in your
desired amplification setting. Once your amplification selection is made,
the rocker switch also serves as a digital volume control. (SEE PAGE 13.)
On the Plus model, the rocker switch is also used to toggle between
programs for quiet or noisy environments. (SEE PAGE 15.)

Battery Information 7
Ovation Shift uses a commonly available 312
zinc air battery. With normal full-time use, the
battery will last approximately seven days.
When the battery is depleted, remove and
replace it immediately. Replacements may be
purchased at www.OvationHearing.com.
When not in use, be sure to turn your Shift off by
opening the battery door part way. (FIGURE 3, PG. 9)
Low Battery Warning
For your convenience, your Shift warns you when
the battery is almost depleted. You will hear three
sets of double beeps every 10 minutes, which
indicates it’s time to change the battery. Once the
voltage drops below 0.95V, the device emits six
sets of double beeps, then shuts down.
Important —
Always discard
used batteries.
Small batteries
can be harmful
if swallowed.
Keep batteries
out of reach of
pets and small
children. In case
of ingestion, seek
medical attention
immediately and
call (collect, if
necessary) the
National Battery
Ingestion Hotline
at 202-625-3333.

Preparing for Use
FIGURE 2FIGURE 1
8Preparing for Use
Ovation Shift comes with two standard tubes (left and right). Tubes are
marked with red lettering for the right ear and blue lettering for the left
ear (FIGURE 1). Your Shift comes with a “sleeve” tip already installed on the
tube. If you want more bass sound, remove the sleeve tip and substitute
the dome tip provided. (The tips simply pull straight off.)
Connecting the Tube
Align the tube connector end with the end of the case, then push the
tube straight onto the sound post until it snaps into place. (FIGURE 2)

10 Inserting a Battery
If resistance is experienced while closing the battery door, make sure the
battery is inserted properly. When the battery door is completely closed,
your Ovation Shift is ready for operation.
Place the Shift over your ear. Grab the loose end of the tubing and gently
insert the tip into the ear canal. Position the retaining lock in the bowl of
the ear. (FIGURE 6)

FIGURE 6
Wearing Your Ovaation Shift 11
When properly inserted, the tubing will lay close to the head around the
front of the ear and into the canal. You can check this by moving your
finger down the tubing, into the ear. Using a mirror at first may be helpful
to properly position the device.
If the tip doesn’t stay in your ear, you may need a different length
thin tube.

Selecting Your Amplification Setting
With a fresh battery in your Ovation Shift and wearing the Shift, you are
ready to choose an amplification setting.
Start out in a quiet environment. The first time
you turn your Shift on, it will be at the lowest
amplification setting. How does it sound?
To try the next level of amplification, press
and release the upper portion of the rocker
switch (FIGURE 7). You will hear two beeps,
indicating you are now in Amplification
Setting 2.
What you are doing is sampling the
available acoustic settings. There are
four different settings for you to try.

Daily Use (Base and Plus)

Care
FIGURE 9
18 Care
The following instructions will assist in extending the life of your Ovation
Shift device.
Cleaning the Exterior
You should inspect and clean your Shift every day. To clean, gently wipe
the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a moist non-alcohol disinfecting wipe.
Do not allow water or liquid to enter any openings.
The most common causes of amplifier problems are moisture and wax.
The daily use of a drybox is recommended to reduce moisture and wax
buildup. Dryboxes are available at
www.OvationHearing.com.
Cleaning the Tip and Tube
Remove the tube from the case by
twisting the tube connector at least
45° then pulling it off. (FIGURE 9)

CLEANING LINE
FIGURE 10
Care 19
Wipe the exterior of the tube and tip.
Use the cleaning line provided
to clean the tube and tip, by pushing
the cleaning line through the tube.
(FIGURE 10)
(Insert the line at the connector
end where the tube attaches to the
amplifier case and push out through
the tip.)
Re-attach the tube by aligning the tube connector end with the end of the
amplifier case, then push the connector straight onto the sound post
until it snaps into place. There is no need to rotate the tube when
re-attaching.
Do not rinse or submerge these parts in water. There is a risk of
damage if a water drop becomes trapped in the tube. If this should
occur, it will prevent sound from coming through the tube and may be
harmful to your Ovation Shift’s electronics.

Care (continued)
20 Care
Changing the Tube and Tip
The tube and tip should be changed periodically, typically 2 or 3 times
per year. When the tube or tip become soft, discolored, kinked, or
damaged, obtain replacements by calling 1-800-595-8101 or visiting
www.OvationHearing.com.
When you change the tip, make sure it is securely fastened to the sound
tube before inserting it in your ear.
Extended Storage
If it is necessary to store your Shift devices for an extended amount of
time, follow the steps below:
Remove the batteries. Clean your Ovation Shift according to instructions
in this manual. A full cycle in a drybox is recommended prior to extended
storage. Place your Shift in an airtight container, then store in a cool,
dry place.
