Tools needed:
Electric drill with Phillips bit
Reciprocating saw with fine-tooth blade
1/8" pilot drill bit
Utility knife or scissors
Pencil
1/4" Hex driver bit
Straight edge
Locate the pre-assembled wood window frame and stand it up against the interior
of the lattice wall making sure that the top of the frame is facing upward (the
window opening is closer to the top). Have a helper hold the wood window frame
tight against the interior of the lattice wall while you work from the exterior (or
clamp it into position).
Note: If your yurt has 2x6 rafters you will need to cut the tips of any rafters above the wood window
frames (just like trimming the rafters over the door).
Locate the long thin box containing the trim kit for the glass window, which will
also contain the screws necessary. Using the 1-7/8" screws provided, you will
need to fasten the lattice wall to the curved wood frame in as many places as
possible where they intersect, but you will need to have at least 8 of these screws
left over for step 4. Be sure to drill pilot holes before installing screws to prevent
splitting the lattice wall.
Use a straight edge to mark the lattice wall flush with the inside edge of the frame.
Using a reciprocating saw with a sharp fine-tooth blade, carefully cut and remove
the lattice from the window area of the wood framework.
Note: Angling the cut slightly will make installing the window easier.
Two sets of metal strips have been provided with your window. The “backer strips”
are all 1-1/2" wide while the wider strips are the “exterior trim pieces.” The metal
strips all have thin plastic film (to protect the painted surface) which can now be
removed. Align the longer of the backer strips with the the top and bottom of the
window opening making sure that the smooth surface of each strip faces toward
the interior of the yurt.
Note: Set the bottom backer strip so it sits approximately 1/8" lower than the wood window sill.
Have a helper hold the strips in position while you drill pilot holes (to avoid splitting
the lattice) and screw the backer strips through the lattice wall into the wood
frame in at least two places per strip using the 1-7/8" screws.
Now align the shorter backer strips with the left and right sides of the window opening and secure them into place after drilling pilot
holes. The glass window and exterior trim pieces will be installed after the side cover is in place.

Important Note: Pacific Yurts glass window systems are each manufactured to fit a specific size of yurt. If you have yurts of different sizes
it is important to be sure the correct window and wood frame are being installed onto each yurt. Each of the glass windows and wood
frames have been marked to indicate the size of yurt it is designed to fit.
Before proceeding be sure that the lattice wall, center ring, and rafters have been completely installed (pages 1-10 in Set Up Manual).
Choose the location on your yurt where the glass window is to be installed. If your yurt also includes some fabric windows keep in mind
that the center of the glass window needs to be at least 39" from the edge of a fabric window. If you plan to install two glass windows
adjacent to each other they need to be at least 12" apart.

If your yurt has wall insulation you should carefully cut and remove it from the
window opening using sharp scissors or utility knife. Now make a diagonal cut
through the side cover from the top right corner of the window opening to the bottom
left corner and do the same from the opposite corners, so you have a large "X".
Pull the fabric inward and staple it into the window opening to hold it tight. Make sure
the staples are close to the outside edge of the wood window frame so the glass
window will cover them once installed.
From outside the yurt, slide the glass window into the opening making sure the
screen faces outward and the window is right-side-up. This can be confirmed by
locating the two oval drain holes on the exterior of the window, which are located at
the bottom. The outer corners of the window should be positioned so they are flush
with the outside of the side cover.
With your helper outside the yurt holding the window in position anchor the glass
window to the wood frame from inside (two screws on each side) at the pre-drilled
locations using the 1-1/4" screws provided.
Foam weather-stripping has been provided, which should be attached to the back-
side of the fabric window flange (between the window flange and the side cover)
along the right and left sides of the window. Once the metal trim pieces have been
installed (step 7) the foam will assure a good seal against the side cover fabric.
Make sure the thin plastic protective film on the metal trim pieces has been removed.
Align one of the shorter trim pieces with the right edge of the fabric window flange.
The screw holes should be closer to the inner edge of the window than to the outer
edge (see photo). Be sure the smooth flat surface of the metal trim faces outward
(away from the yurt).
While your helper holds the right trim piece in position, drill pilot holes (at the screw
hole locations) through the side cover and backer strips into the wood window frame.
Fasten the right trim piece into position using the 2" hex head screws provided (in the
three middle positions) leaving the two end-holes unoccupied.
Align the end-hole in the (7" wide) top trim piece with the top end-hole on the right
trim piece and screw it into position using a 2" hex head screw before pre-drilling
and screwing it at the middle.
Slide the remaining short trim piece under the top trim piece so that its top end-hole
aligns with the end-hole at the left of the top trim piece. Secure it into position after
drilling your pilot hole.
Align the right end-hole of the bottom trim piece with the bottom end-hole of the
right trim piece and secure it into position. Do the same with the left end-hole and
the left trim piece. Pre-drill and anchor the trim pieces into position at the remaining
holes.
From inside the yurt you can now trim off the excess side cover fabric for a clean
finished edge.

Before proceeding be sure the side cover is fully installed and is tight around the
circumference of the yurt. Next you will be removing the fabric from the window
opening in your curved wood window frame so the glass window itself can be installed.
