This Quick Start Guide covers the basics for inial setup and usage of your
SuperNova. For complete instrucons on all features and funconality, refer to
the device User Guide (preloaded in the device) aer you have completed the
device setup process. To open the User Guide, tap on the User Guide cover on
the Home screen (in the My Books widget), or tap the Barnes & Noble
applicaon icon tap on the User Guide cover in My Library.

Firmware Updates
IMPORTANT: If prompted, you should ALWAYS accept rmware updates
for this AndroidTM device. This is extremely important because changes
and improvements are consistently being made to the AndroidTM operang
system.

Unlocking the Screen
To unlock the screen aer sleep mode, nger-slide the Unlock bar
towards the Sound bar .
To extend or reduce the delay for sleep mode, at the boom of the Home
screen, tap Display Screen meout.
Touch-Screen Navigation
The touch-screen allows for quick, easy and convenient navigaon for all
applicaons using the following navigaon methods:
Tap = simple touch and release of your nger.
Press-hold & scroll = press your nger on the screen, hold in place and
then slide up or down to scroll the screen (i.e., scrolling on B&N Bookstore
and web pages).
Finger-slide = touch & slide your nger across the screen and release (i.e.,
turning pages in a book).
Touch & hold = touch your nger and hold in place unl a response by the
applicaon.
Touch & drag = touch & hold an item, and without liing your nger, move
your nger on the screen unl you reach the target posion.
Pinch-Screen Zoom
This device supports the “pinch-screen” zoom feature to zoom in and out on
applicaon screens.
Zoom in: Spread nger and thumb, place on screen and “pinch” together.
Zoom out: Place nger and thumb together on screen and slide apart.

Navigation Buttons
The navigaon buons at the boom of the device can be used as follows:
HOME
~ Return to the Home screen from any applicaon (leaves apps
running in background).
~ Press and hold to display the most recent apps you launched;
tap on an app icon to re-launch.
MENU
~ Display the Home screen Funcon Menu.
~ Display individual applicaon Menu opons.
BACK
~ In applicaons, return to previous screens or EXIT the applicaon.
~ Clear pop-up menus.
~In the Reader, turns pages back.
SEARCH
~ Perform quick Web, Apps and Music searches.
~ In the Reader, turns pages forward.
Getting Started
1Charge the device
Plug the power adapter into an electrical wall outlet, and then connect
to the device to fully charge the baery before use (approx. 5 hours).
Youcanusethedevice’sfullfunconalityifthebaeryischarging
via the power adapter.

You can also charge the baery using the USB cable connected to a
powered-on computer or a USB power adapter when the device is o
or in sleep mode. If you want to charge the device via USB cable while
using the device (i.e.,eReaderinnight-readmode) you must reduce the
screen brightness to near the lowest level or the device will not charge.

IftheLEDblinkswhilethedeviceisconnectedviaUSBcable,you
can either increase the screen brightness to begin discharging
thebaery(LEDgoeso)orreducethescreenbrightnesstostart
chargingthebaery(LEDbecomessteadygreen).
IMPORTANT: When charging with the USB cable, the required charge
me is longer than when using the AC adapter.
2Turn the Device On
1. Press & hold the power buon unl the Pandigital logo appears. If
you are charging the device, the Pandigital logo appears aer the
baery icon appears.
2. During the boot up process, the Pandigital logo is displayed a second
me, followed by the Pandigital splash screen, and then upon
compleon the setup wizard Welcome screen is displayed.

3Initial Setup
To set up your device and register accounts, follow the setup wizard
prompts as they appear on the screen.
• Select your Desired Language
• Accept End User License Agreement
YoumustaccepttheAgreementtoproceedwiththesetup.
• Set Up Your Wi-Fi Network
IMPORTANT:IfyouskiptheWi-Fisetup,thesetupwizard
automacallyskipsthestepsforsengupyourGmailandBarnes&
Nobleaccounts.RefertotheUserGuideforinstruconsonseng
this up later.
Tap Wi-Fi. When the check mark turns green, a list of local Wi-Fi
networks is displayed. Select your network and enter the password.
When the device connects to the network, a “Connected to...”
message is displayed under Wi-Fi.
IfyouareconnecngviaapublicWi-Fihotspot,youmaybe
promptedtoenterthehotspotlogininformaonpriortohaving
anacveinternetconnecon.
• Idenfy your News Preference
This determines the default RSS news feed that will be displayed in
the InTouch applicaon.
• Set up Gmail and Barnes & Noble Accounts
Thiswillnotappearinthesetupwizardifyoudidnotsetupyour
Wi-Finetwork.
IfyouenteranincorrectGmailaccountorpassword,a“Network
ConneconTimeout”errormessageisdisplayed.
ToaccessyourGmailviatheEmailapplicaon,youmustalsoset
uptheaccountinthatapp.RefertotheEmailseconoftheUser
Guide.

• Idenfy Your Locaon
Youmustselectalocaonbeforeyoucanproceed;thisdatais
usedbyapplicaonsthatdisplayinformaonbasedonaspecic
geographiclocaon.
• Setup Complete
Tap Start to display the Home screen and begin using your device.
4 Set Date & Time
IMPORTANT: Many applicaons require the Date and Time to be set
correctly according to your geographic locaon in order to connect with
your accounts or display correct data.
1. On the Home screen, tap the Sengs icon Date & me.
2. Set the me zone, date and me according to your locaon.
3. Press to return to the Home screen.

Widgets (i.e.,Search) and Shortcuts can be added to the Home screen.
The My Books widget shows the most recently read books, magazine
and newspaper. Simply tap on a cover to open the media le again.
The My Wi-Fi widget allows quick access to seng up and connecng
to a local Wi-Fi network. Aer successful connecon, simply tap the
globe icon to launch the browser.

available screens. Tap the le or right dots (ornger-slidethescreen)

Nocaons List of pending nocaons (i.e.,newemail,
events,completeddownloads,etc.).
Sengs Set mulple funcons and personal preferences that
aect the usage of the device.

Applications Screen
Your Pandigital SuperNova includes many preloaded apps (listed below).
As you download more AndroidTM apps, they can also be accessed on the
Applicaons screen.
On the Home screen, tap to display the Applicaons screen.
Barnes & Noble ~ Shop on the Barnes & Noble Bookstore,
download purchased media, and access My Library.
Browser ~ Access the Internet and ‘surf the web’.
Calculator ~Perform basic math equaons.
Calendar ~ View calendar and schedule events.
Camera ~ Use the built-in cameras for video conferencing, taking
pictures, and recording videos.
Clock ~ Display a digital clock and schedule alarms.
Contacts ~ Create a list of personal contacts, which can be linked
to your email.
Diconary ~ Quick access to the built-in diconary.
Downloads ~ View history of items you’ve downloaded from
websites. You can also open and delete downloads
Email ~ Send/Receive email using your exisng email addresses.
ES File Explorer ~ View and manage les and apps, backup les to
your microSDTM card, and install third party AndroidTM apps.

Facebook ~ Quick access to the Facebook website.
Firmware Update ~ Update the device Firmware.
Gallery ~ View and manage photo and video les.
GetJar ~Market oering thousands of FREE third party AndroidTM
applicaons.
InTouch ~ Quick connect to view your Facebook, Twier, Gmail
and RSS news feed data all in one easy place.
Music ~ Play and manage audio les.
Notes ~ Convenient and quick way to write yourself notes.
OceSuite Viewer ~ Open and view les of the following formats:
DOC, DOCX, TXT, XLS, XLSX, CSV, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX and PDF
Search ~ Perform quick Web, Apps and Music searches.
Sengs ~ Personalize and enhance the device as desired.
Speech Recorder ~ Create a WAV le by recording your voice or
other sounds using the built-in microphone
U Player ~ View popular YouTube videos, and play a variety of
other popular video formats.
Weather ~ Check the weather forecasts for mulple locaons of
your choice.

• Buy single issues or subscripons to Newspapers and Magazines
• Buy, download and read Digital Replica Plus (DRP) magazines

• Support Books copied from SD cards and from your computer
• Support Adobe eBooks transferred from Adobe Digital Edion (ADE)
• DRM-free Books downloaded from web browser

Overview of Buying & Downloading Barnes & Noble Media
On the Home screen, tap the Barnes & Noble applicaon icon.
If you don’t have an exisng Barnes & Noble account,
create and register with a valid credit card.
Tap the B&N Bookstore tab. Therstme,youarepromptedforyour
Barnes&Noblelogininfoifyoudidnotenteritduringtheinialdevicesetup.
Aer a successful login, the Barnes & Noble Top 100 Books are displayed.
To view the Newspapers and Magazines, tap Favorites: Favorites.
Select your desired category.
Shop and purchase Books, Newspapers and Magazines, or get Free Samples.
Toscrollthestorelisngs,press-hold&scrollthescreen.
Aer a successful sync with your account, your media is added to your
B&N Library. Tap a tle’s Download buon to download to My Library
(SDcardisrequiredtodownloadDRPmagazines).
In My Library, tap on a tle cover to open it.

Reader
Use the Reader to display your eBooks and magazines.
1. Tap the Barnes & Noble application icon.
2. In My Library, tap on a media listing to open it in the Reader.

turn pages. You can also press and to turn pages.
Touch&slidethedotontheprogressbarattheboomofthescreen
tojumptootherpages.
