Description
The new Peavey ILS 1564V (vertical)
and ILS 1564H (horizontal) Loud-
speaker Syste s are two-way, vented
low frequency enclosures using a 15
inch low frequency driver paired with a
60° (horizontal) by 40° (vertical) high
frequency waveguide. The HF section
e ploys a 1.6 exit/100 voice coil
co pression driver ounted on one of
Peavey’s revolutionary new Quadratic
Throat Waveguides. In the ILS 1564H
unit, the waveguide is rotated to provide
a corresponding bea width which ay
be e ployed in low ceiling type
applications. Both versions of the ILS
1564 have a full range sensitivity of
95 dB SPL – (1 watt/1 eter) and a
axi u output of 130 dB at 1 eter
(full range).
The Peavey ILS 1564 is a high
perfor ance loudspeaker syste for
use in de anding sound reinforce ent
applications. The robust construction of
the ILS 1564 provides power handling
capacities of 750 w continuous, 1.5 kW
progra and 3 kW peak (full range).
The unit ay be operated using the
internal 1,600 Hz passive crossover or

ay be bia plified. Twelve 3/8 inch x
16 threaded ounting suspension
points (three each top and botto and
two each sides and back) allow a
variety of suspension configurations.
Multiple units ay be ounted to for
a vertical/horizontal array [see
li itations under ounting
instructions]. Both versions of the
ILS 1564 are solidly constructed of
3/4 inch void free poplar plywood and
finished with an exterior grade
hardened black paint.
Frequency Response
This easure ent is useful in
deter ining how accurately a given
unit reproduces an input signal. The
frequency response of the ILS 1564
is easured at a distance of 1- eter
using a 1 watt (into the no inal
i pedance) swept-sine input signal.
As shown in Figure 1, the selected
drivers in the ILS 1564 co bine to
give a s ooth frequency response
fro 47 Hz - 18.5 kHz.
Directivity
Bea width is derived fro the -6 dB
points fro the polar plots (see Figure
3) which are easured in a whole
space anechoic environ ent. Q and
Directivity Index are plotted for the on-
axis easure ent position. These are
specifications that provide a reference
to the coverage characteristics of the
unit. These para eters provide insight
for proper place ent and installation
in the chosen environ ent. The
blending of the co ponents of the ILS
1564 exhibit a desirable bea width
and directivity (Figure 3 and 4)
suitable for sound reinforce ent
applications.
Power Han ling
There are any different approaches
to power handling ratings. Peavey
rates this loudspeaker syste ’s power
handling using a full-range for of the
AES Standard 2-1984. Using audio
band 20 Hz to 20 kHz pink noise with
peaks of four ti es the RMS level,
this strenuous test signal assures the
user that every portion of this syste
can withstand today’s high technology
usic. This rating is contingent upon
having a ini u of 3 dB of a plifier
headroo available.
Harmonic Distortion
Second and third har onic distortions
vs. frequency are plotted in Figures 5
and 6 for two power levels. Ten
percent (10%) of rated input power
and either one percent (1%) of rated
input power or one watt, whichever is
greater. Distortion is read fro the
graph as the difference between the
funda ental signal (frequency
response) and the desired har onic.
As an exa ple, a distortion curve that
is down 40 dB fro the funda ental
is equivalent to 1% distortion.
Mounting
CAUTION: Before atte pting to
suspend this speaker, consult a
certified structural engineer. Speaker
can fall fro i proper suspension,
resulting in serious injury and property
da age. Other enclosures ay be
suspended below one ILS 1564.
However, the co bined weight of
additional enclosures and all cables,
cla ps and other hardware ust not
exceed 304 pounds. The ILS 1564
weighs 96 pounds and the axi u
co bined weight suspended fro the
upper ost ounting bracket
asse blies ust not exceed 400
pounds. Maxi u enclosure angle
45 degrees. Use only the correct
ating hardware (forged shoulder
achinery eye bolt, Mil Spec
MIL51937-3). All associated rigging
is the responsibility of others.
