Any optional items ordered
When installing or servicing the system or accessories,
strictly observe the safety precautions in the Safety Notes
Summary. Ignoring these instructions can void the system
warranty and cause personal injury or property damage.
2 ESD
Electrostatic discharge and incorrect installation or
removal of the card can damage circuit or shorten its life.
Use a properly grounded ESD wrist strap or make work
in an ESD-safe environment. Connect to the ESD
connector at the front or the rear of the system.
3 Site preparation
Prior to installation, prepare your site. For information on the
environmental requirements refer to the Penguin Edge™ ATCA-
7540 Series Installation and Use Manual.
Operating temperature is the temperature of the air circulating
around the blade, not the actual component temperature.
4 Replace the M.2 Riser
First, remove the M.2 riser assembly from the ATCA blade. You
need a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
1. Loosen the bracket screw near the Zone 3 connectors to allow
access to the standoff screw, see illustration A.
2. Unscrew the two M2.5 x 4mm screws that secure the old M.2
riser assembly to the blade.
3. Firmly grasp the assembly and gently disconnect it from the
blade connector by lifting vertically until it releases.
4. Put the riser assembly and screws aside.
Before installing the replacement M.2 riser assembly (1) onto the
ATCA blade, attach one bracket to each side of the assembly, as
shown.
5. Align bracket (2) with the alignment hole on the front side of the
assembly.
6. Insert one pan head screw (M2.5 x 6mm) through the bracket
and assembly alignment holes, see illustration B. Give the screw
just enough of a turn to equal two threads.
Note: This keeps the brackets in place and allows for up/down
movement and a 10 degree rotation of the mounting screw for
final mounting.
7. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for bracket (3), mounting it on the
backside of the assembly, see illustration C.
To install the riser assembly on to the blade, follow these steps:
8. Grasp each side of the assembly, pinching the bracket and
assembly together to avoid interference with the Zone 3
connectors.

9. Align the mating posts of the M.2 connector to the mating posts
of the ATCA blade. Make sure the M.2 connector is parallel to
the mating connector, see illustration D.
The M.2 connector should align on both posts of the
blade’s mating connector. Failure to do so, may result in
connector pin damage or in a short.
10.Apply a small amount of equal pressure to the top corners of the
M.2 assembly (directly above the two mating posts) and gently
press down to make sure a proper connection is achieved.
Note: The connection is correct when the M.2 assembly bracket
mounting holes align with the mating standoff mounting holes on
the ATCA blade, see illustration E.
11. Insert a M2.5 x 4mm pan head screw in each standoff. Hold the
M.2 assembly in place while tightening the screws.
12.Torque each M2.5 x 4mm screw to 0.3 N-m.
13.Tighten each bracket screw to secure it to the M.2 assembly.
14.Torque each M2.5 x 6mm bracket screw to 0.3 N-m.
You have completed the replacement of an ATCA-75XX-KIT-M.2.
