The 5100/5110 Series Biometric Device Scanning Options { Index }
The 5100/5110 Series of biometric devices have a number of biometric scanning modes

scanning modes available to you and a description of the functionality. For either a Facial or a
Finger scan to be used, a user must be enrolled at least once. This creates a “biometric
template” or record, that is needed before a person can use the device.

Finger Placement to Achieve the Best Scanning Results { Index }
It is advisable for any new users being enrolled, that the Scan Test function be used prior to
enrolling the user. This allows for the user to familiarise themselves with the scanning
process prior to enrolling. Refer to the Biometric Scan Test functions –Finger Test section for
accessing the Scan Test functions.
Fingers should be placed firmly on the sensor using the flat fleshy part of the last section of
your finger. Any finger can be used, but it is common for people to use their right index or
right thumb. The below illustrates which part of the finger must be placed onto the surface of
the sensor.
Examples
The following images show where the finger is placed correctly onto the sensor. The
bottom flat part of the finger is covering the whole of the sensor while the finger is
pressed firmly onto the surface.
Finger is placed firmly with the first knuckle
aligned with the base of the sensor.
Finger is placed firmly and centred on the
sensor.
This part of the finger is
used to firmly press against
the sensor on the scanner.
The finger needs to be
placed firmly over the
entire sensor.
Align the crease on your
finger with the lower edge
of the sensor.

Positioning for Best Facial Scanning (5110 Series Only) { Index }
To achieve the best facial scanning results the following
guidelines should be followed.
The camera has a 64 Deg (H) x 48 Deg (V) viewing angle.
Best results are achieved when there are NO bright lights
behind the user when scanning. E.G. Fluro’s and Downlights
5110 series mounting position:
•Mount to a wall 1.3m - 1.4m from the ground to the top edge of the device
oA lower mounting position can be used if the general audience is of a shorter
stature (1.3m)
oA higher mounting position should be used if the general audience is of a taller
stature (1.4m)
oNOTE: If more than one 5110 device is being used, ensure ALL devices are
mounted at approximately the same height to ensure consistent scanning
results
•Mount in a well-lit area, ideally with lighting positioned above or behind the device
oAvoid mounting the 5110 series device where there are lights positioned
directly behind where a user will be standing to perform a facial scan
▪The lights may cause a “Blinding” effect on the facial scan reducing the
clarity of any scans
Testing device location for best facial scanning positioning:
•Centered in front of the 5110 Camera
•Approximately an arm’s length away from the 5110 series device
oAs a guide, stand so that you can comfortably place your finger on the finger
scanning sensor
•Look directly at the camera
•Using the Facial test scan function, Scores of 50+ should be achieved. Refer to
Biometric Scan Test functions –Face Test (5110 only)
Note: Should you have issues with a user being able to verify consistently please contact
PeopleKey Support for further assistance.
