Important
◗Do not use the appliance if the plug, the cord or the appliance
itself is damaged.
◗Before you connect the appliance, check whether the mains
voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds with the mains
voltage in your home.
Preparing the appliance for use
1Clean the jug and filterholder (see section 'Cleaning').
2Place the appliance on a stable surface.
Do not put the appliance on a hot surface
Keep the appliance out of the reach of children and make sure that
they are unable to pull at the cord.
3Put the plug in an earthed wall socket.
C◗You can store excess cord at the back of the appliance.
Prevent the cord from coming into contact with hot surfaces.
C4Open the lid.
C5Fill the watertank to the MAX-indication with cold, fresh water
and put the jug in place.
Do not put a filter and coffee in the basket.
C6Switch the appliance on by pressing the button.
BThe pilot light goes on.
Let the appliance run until the watertank is completely empty.
7After all water is in the jug: switch off the appliance.
Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start
brewing coffee.

Brewing coffee
1Open the lid.
C2Fill the watertank with the desired amount of cold, fresh water.
The water level in the water tank can be read from the winddow; the
markings correspond to large cups (125 ml; MAX = 5 cups). Ensure
that the water level does not get higher than the maximum marking
(MAX).
3Close the lid.
4Place the jug.
C5Open the filter holder.
6Put a paper filter (type 1x2) in the filter holder.
Do not forget to fold the sealed edges of the filter.
With some models a permanent filter is supplied. In this case paper
filters are not required.
C7Put pre-ground coffee (filter-fine grind) in the filter.
8Close the lid.
9Switch the appliance on by pressing the button.
BThe pilot light will go on.
10 Switch the appliance off after use.
Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start
brewing coffee again.
Cleaning
1Unplug the appliance.
2Clean the outside of the appliance with a moist cloth.
Never immerse the appliance in water.
C3Clean the jug and the removable filterholder in hot soapy
water or in the dishwasher.
Descaling
Descale the appliance regularly. In case of normal use:
- 2 or 3 times a year if your are using soft water (less than 18cDH);
- 4 or 5 times a year if you are using hard water (more than 18cDH).
Turn to your local water board for information about the water
hardness in your area.

1Use an appropriate descaler or fill the water tank with white
vinegar. Do not put a filter and coffee in the filter holder.
2Let the appliance complete two runs.
See 'Brewing coffee'. Let the appliance cool down before you start the
second run.
3Let the appliance complete two more runs with fresh, cold
water to remove any vinegar and scale residues.
4Clean the separate parts.
Replacement
Cord
If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service
centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to
avoid a hazard.
Jug
You can order a new jug under type number HD7970. Please check
with your local Philips dealer or Philips Service Centre.

Important
◗N'utilisez jamais l'appareil si la fiche, le cordon d'alimentation ou
l'appareil lui-même est endommagé.
◗Avant de brancher l'appareil, vérifiez que la tension indiquée sur
celui-ci correspond à celle du secteur de votre habitation.
Avant la première utilisation
1Nettoyez la verseuse, ainsi que le porte-filtre (voir paragraphe
'Nettoyage').
2Placez l'appareil sur une surface stable.
Ne placez jamais l'appareil sur une surface chaude.
Veillez à ce que l'appareil soit hors de portée des enfants. Empêchez
les de tirer sur le cordon.
3Branchez toujours la fiche d'alimentation sur une prise équipée
de terre.
C◗Vous pouvez ajuster la longueur du cordon en le rangeant à
l'arrière de l'appareil.
Veillez à ce que le cordon d'alimentation ne soit pas en contact avec
des surfaces chaudes.
C4Levez le couvercle.
C5Remplissez le réservoir jusqu'au Max avec de l'eau fraîche et
mettez la verseuse en place.
Ne mettez pas de filtre, ni de café pour cette première opération.
C6Mettez l'appareil en marche à l'aide de l'interrupteur.
BLe témoin lumineux s'allume.
Laissez l'eau s'écouler jusqu'à ce que le réservoir soit vide.
7Lorsque toute l'eau a fini de s'écouler, arrêtez l'appareil.
Attendez au moins 3 minutes que l'appareil refroidisse, avant de faire
du café.

Pour faire du café
1Levez le couvercle.
C2Remplissez le réservoir avec la quantité d'eau froide désirée.
Vous pouvez vérifier le niveau d'eau du réservoir par la fenêtre, les
indications de niveau correspondent à de grandes tasses (125ml).
Assurez-vous que le niveau d'eau ne dépasse pas l'indication maximum
(MAX).
3Refermez le couvercle.
4Mettez la verseuse à sa place.
C5Ouvrez le porte-filtre.
6Placez-y un filtre papier (type 1x2).
Rabattez les bords du filtre si nécessaire.
Certaines versions de cafetière sont équipées de filtre permanent.
Dans ce cas n'utilisez pas de filtre papier.
C7Mettez le café moulu dans le filtre.
8Refermez le couvercle.
9Mettez en marche à l'aide de l'interrupteur.
BLe témoin lumineux s'allume.
10 Arrêtez la cafetière après utilisation.
Laissez l'appareil refroidir au moins 3 minutes, avant de faire du café à
nouveau.
Nettoyage
1Débranchez l'appareil.
2Nettoyez l'extérieur de la cafetière à l'aide d'un chiffon humide.
Ne plongez jamais l'appareil dans l'eau.
C3Nettoyez la verseuse ainsi que le porte-filtre avec de l'eau
savonneuse ou au lave-vaisselle.
Détartrage
Détartrez votre cafetière régulièrement. Pour une utilisation normale :
- 2 ou 3 fois par an si votre eau n'est pas trop calcaire (inférieure à
18cTH);
- 4 ou 5 fois par an si votre eau est dure (supérieure à 18cTH).
