Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing your new Philips coffee maker. This appliance has been designed for
your convenience and long-lasting enjoyment. The information below will help you use your coffee
maker in the best way to brew delicious coffee. Enjoy!
Important
Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save them for future reference.
◗Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage
before you connect the appliance.
◗Do not use the appliance if the mains cord, the plug or the appliance itself is damaged.
◗If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by
Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
◗Do not place the appliance on a hot surface and prevent the mains cord from coming into
contact with hot surfaces.
◗Keep the appliance and its cord out of the reach of children. Do not let the mains cord hang
over the edge of the table or worktop on which the appliance is standing.
◗Never immerse the thermos jug in water or any other liquid, as this could cause water to
enter between the walls of the jug.
◗Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
◗Unplug the appliance before cleaning it and if problems occur during brewing.
◗Do not disassemble the thermos jug.
◗When the jug is filled with coffee, keep it in upright position to prevent leakage.
Preparing for use
1Put the appliance on a flat and stable surface.
2Put the plug in an earthed wall socket.
It is possible that the appliance is switched on (light goes on) when you put the plug in the wall
socket. If this is the case, the appliance cannot be switched off manually but will be switched off
automatically after approximately 30 seconds (light goes out).
◗You can store excess cord by pushing it into the opening at the back of the coffee maker
(fig. 2).
Prevent the cord from coming into contact with hot surfaces.
Flushing the appliance
1Fill the water tank half full with water and put the jug in place (fig. 3).
2Switch the appliance on by pressing the power-on button. The light goes on. Let the
appliance run until the water tank is completely empty (fig. 4).

◗The appliance switches off automatically after flushing.
3Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start brewing coffee.
Using the appliance
Brewing coffee
1Fill the water tank with water (fig. 5).
◗The graduations on the left are for large cups (120 ml) (fig. 6).
◗The graduations on the right are for small cups (80 ml).
2Open the filter holder (fig. 7).
3Take a paper filter (type 1x4 or no. 4) and fold the sealed edges to prevent tearing and
folding (fig. 8).
4Put the filter in the filter holder (fig. 9).
BSome versions come with a permanent filter. In this case you should not use paper filters.
5Put pre-ground coffee (filter-fine grind) in the filter (fig. 10).
- For large cups: use one heaped measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.
- For small cups: use one level measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup.
6Close the filter holder (fig. 11).
7Put the jug in place (fig. 12).
Put the jug in the appliance with the handle pointing straight forward or to the right. Make sure the
lid of the jug is in 'closed/brewing' position r.
8Switch the appliance on by pressing the power-on button. The appliance switches off
automatically after brewing (fig. 13).
During brewing, you can only switch the appliance off by removing the mains plug from the wall
socket. When you reinsert the plug into the wall socket, the appliance will continue brewing until
the water tank is empty.
9When all the water has passed through the filter, you can remove the jug from the appliance
(fig. 14).
Using the thermos jug
The best way to keep the coffee hot is to rinse the jug with hot water before brewing and to brew
a full jug.
1To pour out coffee, turn the lid to the right by means of the fin until the arrow on the lid
points towards the 'pour' symbol e(fig. 15).
Always close the lid after pouring coffee to keep the coffee hot.
2To close the lid, turn it to the left by means of the fin until the arrow on the lid points
towards the 'closed/brewing' symbol r(fig. 16).
3To remove the lid from the thermos jug, turn it to the left by means of the fin until the
arrow on the lid points towards the 'remove lid' symbol t(fig. 17).
4Remove the filter holder and throw the paper filter away (fig. 18).
5If you have used the permanent filter, empty and rinse it.

Cleaning
Always unplug the appliance before you start cleaning it.
Never immerse the appliance or the jug in water.
1Clean the outside of the coffee maker with a moist cloth.
2Detach the filter holder (fig. 19).
3Clean the filter holder in hot water with some washing-up liquid or in the diswasher.
The plastic filter holder (HD7544) can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Do not clean the metal filter
holder (HD7546) in the dishwasher.
4Clean the inside of the thermos jug with a soft brush, hot water and some washing-up liquid.
Do not clean the thermos jug in the dishwasher.
5After cleaning, rinse the thermos jug with fresh hot water.
BTo remove stubborn brown deposits, fill the jug with hot water and add a spoonful of soda. Leave the
soda to do its work for some time. Then empty the jug and remove the deposits with a soft brush.
Rinse the thermos jug with fresh hot water.
Descaling
Regular descaling will prolong the life of the appliance and will guarantee optimal brewing results for
a long time.
In case of normal use (two full jugs of coffee every day), descale the coffee maker:
- once every month if you are using hard water;
- once every 4 months if you are using soft water.
Turn to your local water board for information about the water hardness in your area.
1Fill the water tank half full with water and a liquid descaler according to the instructions on
the package of the descaler. Do not use a powder descaler!
◗You can also use white vinegar (4% acetic acid).
2Let the appliance complete two brewing cycles.
3Let the appliance complete two more brewing cycles with fresh, cold water to remove all
liquid descaler or vinegar residues.
4Clean the separate parts (see chapter 'Cleaning').
Accessories
◗You can order a new jug from your Philips dealer or a Philips service centre under type
number HD7999/20 (black) or HD7999/80 (white/yellow).
◗You can order a permanent filter from your Philips dealer or Philips service centre under
reference number 4822 480 50479.
Environment
◗Do not throw the appliance away with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but
hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. By doing this you will help to preserve
the environment (fig. 20).

If problems should arise with your coffee maker and you are unable to solve them by means of the
troubleshooting guide below, please contact the nearest Philips service centre or the Philips
Customer Care Centre in your country.

Solution
The appliance is equipped with an automatic shut-off
function and cannot be switched off manually. The
appliance switches off automatically after brewing
(when the water tank is empty) and the light goes out.
If problems occur during brewing, you can only switch
the appliance off by removing the mains plug from the
wall socket.
The appliance needs to be descaled (see chapter
'Descaling').

Rinse the jug with hot water before brewing. The
coffee will stay warm longer if you brew a full jug (or
at least half a jug).

Do not remove the jug for more than 30 seconds, to

sollen Ihnen dabei helfen, die Kaffeemaschine optimal zu nutzen und jederzeit köstlichen Kaffee
damit zu brühen. Wir wünschen Ihnen viel Freude an Ihrem neuen Gerät!
Wichtig
Lesen Sie diese Bedienungsanleitung vor dem ersten Gebrauch des Geräts sorgfältig durch und
bewahren Sie sie zur späteren Einsichtnahme auf.
◗Prüfen Sie, bevor Sie das Gerät in Betrieb nehmen, ob die Spannungsangabe auf dem Gerät
mit der örtlichen Netzspannung übereinstimmt.
◗Benutzen Sie das Gerät nicht, wenn das Netzkabel, der Netzstecker oder das Gerät selbst
defekt oder beschädigt ist.
◗Wenn das Netzkabel defekt oder beschädigt ist, darf es nur von einem Philips Service-
Center oder einer von Philips autorisierten Werkstatt durch ein Original-Ersatzkabel
ausgetauscht werden, um Gefährdungen zu vermeiden.
◗Stellen Sie das Gerät nicht auf heiße Flächen. Lassen Sie auch das Netzkabel nicht mit heißen

◗Halten Sie das Gerät und das Netzkabel außer Reichweite von Kindern. Lassen Sie das
Netzkabel nicht über die Kante der Tisch- oder Arbeitsplatte hängen, auf der das Gerät
steht.
◗Tauchen Sie die Thermoskanne nicht in Wasser oder andere Flüssigkeiten; es könnte
Wasser zwischen die Wände der Kanne eindringen.
◗Tauchen Sie das Gerät nicht in Wasser oder andere Flüssigkeiten.
◗Ziehen Sie vor dem Reinigen des Geräts und bei Problemen während des Brühvorgangs den
Stecker aus der Steckdose.
◗Nehmen Sie die Thermoskanne nicht auseinander.
◗Halten Sie die volle Kanne senkrecht, damit kein Kaffee ausläuft.
Vorbereitung zum Gebrauch
1Stellen Sie das Gerät auf eine ebene und stabile Fläche.
2Stecken Sie den Stecker in eine Schuko-Steckdose.
Möglicherweise ist das Gerät eingeschaltet und die Lampe leuchtet, wenn Sie den Stecker in die
Steckdose stecken. In diesem Fall lässt sich das Gerät nicht manuell abschalten. Es schaltet sich
jedoch nach ca. 30 Sekunden automatisch aus, und die Lampe erlischt.
◗Überschüssiges Kabel können Sie in die Öffnung hinten am Gerät schieben (Abbildung 2).
Achten Sie darauf, dass das Netzkabel nicht mit heißen Flächen in Berührung kommt.
