Important
◗Only use Philips s-bag™ double-layer paper dustbag (type FC8021), the reusable dustbag if
provided or Philips Sydney + double-layer paper dustbags (type HR6999).
◗Never suck up water or any other liquid. Never suck up flammable substances and do not
suck up ashes until they are cold.
◗Only allow children to operate the vacuum cleaner under close supervision.
◗Do not point the hose at the eyes or ears nor put it in your mouth when the vacuum cleaner
is switched on and the hose is connected to the vacuum cleaner.
◗When the vacuum cleaner is used to suck up fine dust, the pores of the dustbag may become
clogged, causing the passage of air through the dustbag to become obstructed.As a result, the
dustbag-full indicator will indicate that the dustbag needs to be replaced, even though the
dustbag is not full at all.
◗Never use the appliance without the Motor Protection Filter.This could damage the motor
and shorten the life of the appliance.
◗If the mains cord of this appliance is damaged, it may only be replaced by Philips or a service
centre authorised by Philips, as repair requires special tools and/or parts.

Connecting accessories
Hose
1To connect the hose to the appliance, push it into the appliance and turn it clockwise (fig. 1).
2To disconnect the hose from the appliance, turn it anticlockwise and pull it out of the
appliance.
Tube
Conical coupling (specific types only)
1To connect the tubes to the handgrip, insert the narrow section into the wider section while
turning it clockwise (fig. 2).
Use the same method to connect the accessories to the tube.
2To disconnect, turn the tube or the accessories anticlockwise and pull.
Button coupling (specific types only)
1Connect the tube to the handgrip ("click") (fig. 3).
Use the same method to connect the accessories to the tube.
2To disconnect the tube from the handgrip, push the lock button and pull the tube out of the
handgrip (fig. 4).
The accessories are disconnected in the same way.
Telescopic tube (specific types only)
1Connect the tube to the handgrip.
2Adjust the tube to the length you find most comfortable during vacuum cleaning. (fig. 5)
Nozzle
Convertible nozzle (specific types only)
The convertible nozzle can be used on either carpets or hard floors.
1Connect the convertible nozzle to the tube.
2Push the rocker switch on top of the convertible nozzle with your foot to make the brush
strip for cleaning hard floors come out of the nozzle housing(fig. 6).
3Push the rocker switch again to make the brush strip disappear into the convertible nozzle
housing (fig. 7).
Reach & Clean nozzle (specific types only)
◗The Reach & Clean nozzle can be used on either carpets or hard floors.The nozzle can be
turned 360 degrees to 4 different positions, allowing you to also vacuum clean hard-to-reach
places in an easy way.When the nozzle is positioned lengthwise, the suction power is
concentrated at the front side of the nozzle (fig. 8).
◗To adjust the nozzle to the type of floor and the area to be cleaned, put your foot on the
indicated spot and then turn the tube until the nozzle is in the required position (fig. 9).
1With the nozzle positioned breadthwise and the brush strip folded out, you can clean large
hard floor areas.Turn the tube until the brush strip pops out of the nozzle housing and the
nozzle is positioned breadthwise (fig. 10).

2With the nozzle positioned lengthwise and the brush strip folded out, you can vacuum clean
small hard floor areas.Turn the tube 90 degrees anti-clockwise until it is positioned
lengthwise with the brush strip still folded out of the nozzle housing (fig. 11).
3With the nozzle positioned breadthwise and the brush strip folded in, you can vacuum clean
large soft floor areas.Turn the tube 90 degrees anti-clockwise again to position the nozzle
breadthwise and to make the brush strip disappear into the nozzle housing (fig. 12).
4With the nozzle positioned lengthwise and the brush strip folded in, you can vacuum clean
small soft floor areas.Turn the tube 90 degrees anti-clockwise again until it is positioned
lengthwise with the brush strip still folded in (fig. 13).
Crevice tool, small nozzle and small brush (specific types only)
1Connect the crevice tool, small nozzle or small brush directly to the handgrip or to the tube.
The crevice tool can be used either for cleaning narrow corners or hard-to-reach places.
The small nozzle can be used for vacuum cleaning small areas, e.g. the seats of chairs and sofas.
The small brush can be used for cleaning computers, bookshelves etc.
Accessory clip
◗The accessory clip can simply be snapped onto the tube.
◗The crevice tool and the small nozzle can easily be clicked onto the clip (fig. 14).
Vacuum cleaning
1Pull the cord out of the appliance and put the mains plug in the wall socket (fig. 15).
2Switch the appliance on by pushing the on/off button on top of the appliance with your foot.
3You can carry the appliance in two ways:
◗Carrying it vertically by lifting it up at the front part of the appliance (fig. 16).
◗Carrying it horizontally by lifting it up by the handle at the top of the appliance.
Adjusting suction power
You can adjust the suction power while vacuum cleaning.
1Adjust the suction power by means of the electronic suction power control (fig. 17).
2Set the turn knob to MAX for maximum suction power (fig. 18).
Use maximum suction power for vacuum cleaning very dirty carpets and hard floors.
3Set the turn knob to MIN for minimal suction power.
Use minimum power for vacuum cleaning curtains, table carpets, etc.
Storing the vacuum cleaner
1Switch the appliance off and remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
2Rewind the mains cord by pressing the cord rewind button (fig. 19).
3Put the appliance in upright position and attach the nozzle to the appliance by inserting the
ridge on the nozzle in the slot (fig. 20).
Replacing the dustbag
◗Replace the dustbag as soon as the "dustbag-full indicator" changes colour (when the nozzle
is not placed on the floor) (fig. 21).

1Switch the appliance off and open the cover (fig. 22).
2Push the dustbag holder backwards (fig. 23).
3Remove the full dustbag by pulling the cardboard tag, which causes the dustbag to be sealed
(fig. 24).
4Slide the cardboard front of the new dustbag into the two grooves of the dustbag holder.
Press it down as far as possible (fig. 25).
5Pull the dustbag holder forwards (you will hear a click) (fig. 26).
You cannot close the cover if no dustbag has been inserted.
◗If provided, you can use the re-usable dustbag instead of paper dustbags.The re-usable
dustbag can be used and emptied repeatedly.
For removing and inserting the re-usable dustbag, simply follow the instructions for replacing paper
dustbags.
Ordering dustbags
Philips s-bag™ paper dustbags are available under type number FC8021.
Philips re-usable dustbags are available under number FC8026.
Philips Sydney + double-layer paper dustbags are available under number HR6999.
Replacing filters
Motor Protection Filter
Replace the Motor Protection Filter once a year.
1Switch the appliance off and open the cover. Remove the filter.
2Insert a new filter into the holder with the white side visible (fig 27).
AFS Micro Filter (specific types only)
Replace the AFS Micro Filter every 6 months.
The AFS Micro Filter will remove a large part of the smallest particles from the exhaust air.
1Open the grill and remove the filter (fig. 28).
2Place the sides and the bottom edge of the new filter properly behind the ridges of the
holder (fig. 29).
3Put the grill back into the vacuum cleaner by first hooking the bottom edge of the grill into
the appliance (1) and then pushing the grill towards the appliance (2) until it snaps home.
Make sure the filter has been placed properly.
HEPA Filter (specific types only)
Instead of the AFS Micro Filter, some appliances are equipped with the revolutionary HEPA Filter.
This filter does not only remove household dust, but also harmful microscopic vermin.
Replace the HEPA Filter at least once a year.
1Open the filter grill and remove the HEPA Filter.
2Place the new filter in the brackets. Make sure that the Philips logo on the filter is visible in
the right hand corner (fig. 30).
3Close the filter cover.

Ordering filters
Two AFS Micro Filters and one Motor Protection Filter are available under type number FC8032.
HEPA Filters are available under type number FC8044.
Environment
To make recycling possible, the plastics used for this appliance have been coded.
The cardboard packaging has been made of recycled material and is fully recyclable.
Insufficient suction power
1Check if the dustbag needs to be replaced.
2Check if the filters need to be replaced.
3Check if the electronic suction power control is at its maximum setting.
4Check if the nozzle, tube or hose is blocked up (fig. 31).
To remove the obstruction, disconnect the blocked-up item and connect it (as far as possible) in
reverse position. Switch the vacuum cleaner on to force the air through the blocked-up item in
opposite direction. Make the airflow suck the obstructing material out of the blocked-up item.
