preprocessing

dynamic
range
isbroadened
byupward
anddownward
expansion.

in a powerful

of bringing
performers

by a fast and slow response (mixed)

A noise

effect

rumble

background
noises
arereduced
by the
circuit
properties

unit,

Thesensor
section
which
produces
thecontrol
signalis
provided
with anenergy
distribution
filter,
to ensure
that
theexpansion
function
isnottrigged
by noise
components.
However,
expansion
is not limited
to instruments,
whose
fundamental
frequency
is
closeto thecenterfrequency
of
theenergydistribution
filter,
since
allmusical
instruments
produce
harmonics
which arestrongest
whenthe instru-
ment is played
hard.Hence
theseharmonics
activate
the
sensing
circuit
andcontrol
the
degreeofexpansion,
so
that
lowerfrequency
instruments
arealsoenhanced.
S-Stage
DynamicExpansion
Selector
Theexpansion
in thedynamicrange
canbeswitched
in
3dB steps from 4dB to 16dBwith this S-setting
selector.
By combining
theupward
anddownward
expansion,
it is
possible
to produce
theoptimum
expansion
inthe
dynamic
range
andalso
to selectthe expansion
accordinq
to the
music
source
and
your
individual
taste.

Dynamic expansion is defined as the sum of the downward
expansion (where small inputs are expanded down) and upward
expansion (where large inputs are expanded up). For deails, refer
