MacBAT 5 –USER GUIDE. Version 1.0
It is required to use always the newest release of this documentation. Newest version can be obtained from the
Manufacturer. Ensure the documentation is relevant to the hardware and firmware version of configured device.
MacBAT 5 volume converter is the explosion proof device in intrinsically safety variant “i”. Device can be installed in
hazardous explosive Zone 0, 1, 2 of gas and dusts from group IIA and IIB
Internal safe circuits, including integral pressure sensors and temperature do not withstand the 500V test described in
EN60079-11 standard for grounded or insulated metal parts in the interior. Protection rating does not depend on the
spaces. Metal thimbles are galvanically connected and can be installed fully not grounded or fully grounded. This must
be considered during the installation.
Person installing the device is responsible for examination of continuity of safety connections.
Avoid impacts or scratching the housing. Risk of ignition.
It is forbidden to open the housing in conditions allowing for water leakage or dust inside the terminals chamber –
rainfall, snowfall, strong wind.
Declared by the manufacturer IP rating will be achieved when the rubber sealing is placed properly in the device
housing. Moreover, the cables must be fitting tightly to the cable glands, tightened front cover. Not used cable glands
must be plugged, antenna connector (if equipped) must be plugged by the cap or antenna.

A-6
MacBAT 5 –USER GUIDE. Version 1.0
Within some rare and uncommon conditions housing or its elements made from polycarbonate can accumulate the
electrostatic charge which can cause the ignition. Do not install the product in the atmosphere conducing to
accumulation of the electrostatic charges. Clean the product only using wet tissue.
Intrinsically safe circuits in MacBAT 5 are in conform with every intrinsically safety rules included in EN 60079-14, in
details:
•It is required to use the cables with separate wires or use multi-core cables A- or B-type according to 12.2.2.8
point of EN 60079-14.
•Cables and wires of non-intrinsically safe circuits must be driven separately to the intrinsically safe.
•Cables and wires must be rigidly attached to avoid their loose hanging and mechanical damage.
•Cables of intrinsically safe circuits must have blue insulation
Shielding of the cable must be connected to the cable gland. This way provides the grounding of the MacBAT 5 in
vincinity of the device. When using measurement transducers shielding of it must be insulated.
Cables used for connection must have round section fitting to the external diameter of the used cable glands.
Functions and options of the device can be various due to many of the variants. Detailed information about the
functionalities differences can be found in this guide.
This measurement unit, due to the technical conditions, safety rules and regulations can be serviced only by the trained
and experienced person. It is required to consider all the terms for special equipment exploitation. Similar terms are
valid also for all the connected accessories.

A-7
MacBAT 5 –USER GUIDE. Version 1.0
Device approved to be installed must have the same serial number on the physical nameplate, certificate of metrological
properties and digital nameplate achievable on LCD.
One of the devices variant is assembled in accordance with Directive 2014/32/EU of the European Parliament and of
the Council of 26 February 2014 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available
on the market of measuring instruments (recast) –MID which is related to volume converters used for home,
commercial and industrial utilities.
Device assembled in conformity with MID has additional marking on the nameplate. Close to CE marking it is additional
M marking with last 2 digits of production year.
According to MID directive it is allowed to use the connection boxes, overvoltage extinguishers and Zenner barriers. It
is required for these components to be designed to work in enclosure.
To install MacBAT 5 on the gas meter it is required to use relevant cables to these used in gas meter. Before the
installation familiarize with technical documentation of gas meter which contains detailed information about installation
conditions and cables types.
It is forbidden to install the device in vicinity of strong magnetic fields.
All products bearing this symbol are waste electrical and electronic equipment (Directive 2012/19/EU of the European
Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)) which should not be mixed
with unsorted household waste. Instead, you should protect human health and the environment by handing over your waste
equipment to a designated collection point for the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment, appointed by the
government or local authorities. Correct disposal and recycling will help prevent potential negative consequences to the
environment and human health. Please contact the installer or local authorities for more information about the location as
well as terms and conditions of such collection points.
