STOPUS!main!structure!consists!in!an!assemblage!of!foams!of!various!specification!(!density,!firmness,!
layering!)!to!ensure!an!optimal!pressure!redistribution.!!

STOPUS!has!two!waterproof!barriers:!an!inner!vinyl!sealed!envelop!that!protects!the!main!foam!structure!
and!an!outer!cover!made!of!a!combination!of!fire!retardant!fabrics!with!an!anti-slip!property!for!an!optimal!

Positech! innovation! Inc.! recommends! that! a! clinician! experienced! in! seating! and! positioning! be! consulted! to!
determine!if!a!STOPUS!is!appropriate!for!your!specific!needs.!!Cushions!should!only!be!installed!by!an!authorized!
Positech!innovation!dealer!or!a!professional!clinician.!
!
Your!STOPUS!was!designed!for!postural!support!and!sitting!comfort.!!Prior!to!prolonged!sitting,!any!cushion!should!
be!tried! for!a! few! hours!at! a! time!while! a! clinician!inspects!your! skin!to! ensure! that!red! pressure!spots! are!not!
developing.!!The!clinical!indicator!of!tissue!breakdown!is!skin!redness.!!Therefore,!users!should!inspect!their!skin!
daily!for!redness.!!If!your!skin!develops!redness,!discontinue!the!use!of!the!seat!cushion!immediately!and!see!your!
clinician.!

Before! using! this! cushion,! you! and! each! person! who! may! assist!you,! should! read! this! entire! Installation! &! User!
Manual!and!make!sure!to!follow!all!guidelines.!!If!this!document!contains!information!that!you!cannot!understand,!
please!contact!your!dealer!for!directives.!

Installing!a!cushion!on!a!wheelchair!may!affect!the!center!of!gravity!of!the!wheelchair.!!Installed!incorrectly,!it!may!
cause!the!wheelchair!to!tip!backwards,!potentially!resulting!in!injury.!!Always!assess!if!the!addition!of!anti-tips,!and/or!
an!amputee!axle!adapter!brackets!may!be!needed!to!help!increase!stability!after!adding!a!cushion.!!

As!no!seat!cushion!can!completely!eliminate!sitting!pressure!or!prevent!pressure!sores,!STOPUS!is!designed!to!help!
reduce!pressure!but!is!NOT!designed!for!use!in!the!treatment!of!pressure!sores,!or!for!those!individuals!at!risk!of!
developing!pressure!sores.!!Also,!STOPUS!is!not!a!substitute!for!good!skin!care!including,!proper!diet,!cleanliness,!
and!regular!pressure!relief.!!The!clinician!should!be!notified!if!you!have!any!questions!regarding!pressure!relief.!

Hook!and!loop!Velcro®!should!not!come!into!prolonged!contact!with!moisture!as!this!may!degrade!the!adhesive!and!
lead!to!a!failure!of!the!Velcro®!to!hold!the!cushion!in!place.!!Be!sure!that!the!Velcro®!is!engaged!and!able!to!hold!the!
cushion!in!place.!
!
Always! avoid! exposing! your! cushion! to! sharp! objects,! excessive! heat! or! open! flame,! and! prolonged! exposure! to!
environmental!conditions!like!freezing!temperatures!and/or!direct!sunlight.!!For!instance,!if!the!cushion!is!left!at!
temperatures!below!50°F!(!10°C!),!allow!to!warm!to!room!temperature!before!using.!!To!sit!on!cold!surfaces!can!
cause!skin!damage.!
!
Make!sure!that!there!are!never!any!obstructions!between!you!and!the!cushion.!!Any!obstruction!will!reduce!product!
effectiveness!and/or!produce!unnecessary!pressure!points!for!the!user.!
!
STOPUS!must!always!be!used!with!the!2-fabric!side!cover!facing!up!and!the!Velcro!strips!facing!down!towards!the!
seating!surface!of!the!wheelchair.!!If!the!cover!is!not!used!correctly!it!may!reduce/eliminate!the!cushion’s!benefits!
and!could!increase!the!risk!of!skin!and!soft!tissue!injuries.!

Each!STOPUS!seat!cushion!is!carefully!handmade!in!Canada,!inspected!and!tested!to!provide!peak!performance.!This!warranty!is!
not!transferable!and!only!applies!to!the!first!consumer!purchase!of!the!product!through!an!authorized!Positech!innovation!dealer.!!

Every!seat!cushion!is!guaranteed!to!be!free!from!defects!in!materials!and!workmanship!for!a!period!of!two!(2)!years!from!the!date!
of!purchase,!provided!NORMAL!use.!Should!a!defect!in!materials!or!workmanship!occur!within!two!(2)!years!from!the!original!date!
of!purchase,!Positech!innovation!will,!at!its!option,!repair!or!replace!it!without!charge.!!

This!warranty!does!not!apply!to!cushions!abused!or!misused!by!the!user!and!deemed!such!by!Positech!innovation.!!

This!warranty!does!not!apply!to!items!which!may!require!replacement!due!to!normal!wear!and!tear,!punctures,!or!burns,!nor!to!

SETTING UP YOUR STOPUS
!
• INITIAL CUSHION SET-UP WITHOUT USER IN SEATED POSITION
o STOPUS!measurements.!!!The!professional!assessment!completed!by!a!clinician!or!qualified!technician!
is!strongly!recommended!to!determine!the!optimal!size!for!your!condition.!!Improper!cushion!fit!may!
be!detrimental!to!the!performance!of!a!pressure!distribution!and!its!support!of!the!body!posture.!!!
§ Although!the!width!of!your!wheelchair!is!a!good!indicator,!the!width!of!your!pelvis!MUST!also!
be!considered!as!the!correlation!between!both!varies!with!every!situation.!!!
§ The! seat! cushion! length! (depth)! must! take! into! consideration!your! level! of! mobility! and! the!
dimensions!of!your!inferior!member(s).!!In!general,!the!length!should!extend!to!1!inch!(2,5cm)!
from!the!back!of!the!popliteal!fossa.!!!
o Place!the!seat!cushion!on!the!seating!surface!of!the!wheelchair!with!the!zipper!facing!the!rear!of!the!
chair.! ! The! product! label! STOPUS! should! be! right-side-up! and! located! on! the! front! left! side! of! the!
wheelchair.!!!

• ATTACHING/REMOVING!THE!CUSHION!TO/FROM!THE!SEATING!SURFACE!
o Make!sure! the!hook!and!loop!Velcro!fasteners!are!securely! bonding!the!seating!surface!and!the!seat!
cushion!together!BEFORE!using.!!If!the!cushion!is!not!secured!to!the!seating!surface,!use!caution!when!
transferring!in!and!out!of!the!wheelchair.!
o To!remove!the!cushion!from!the!seating!surface,!reverse!the!procedure!described!above.!!!
o The!zipper!on!the!cushion!should!ALWAYS!face!the!rear!of!the!wheelchair.!
!
• CUSHION!SET-UP!AND!ADJUSTMENT!WITH!SEATED!USER!
o When!fitted!correctly,!your!hips!should!be!to!the!back!of!the!chair,!your!ischial!tuberosity!should!be!
centered!on!the!STOPUS.!!Adjust!the!footrests!so!the!user’s!legs!rest!comfortably!on!the!seat!cushion.!!
Lowering!the!footrests!of!your!wheelchair!may!help!reduce!the!pressure!on!your!ischial!tuberosity!(!Sit!
bones!)!or!coccyx!(!Tailbone!).!

• CUSHION!COVERS!HANDLING!
o STOPUS!has!two!layers!of!protection:!!
§ The!inner!cover!is!a!sealed!waterproof!envelop!that!protects!the!foam!structure!from!moisture.!!
• DO! NOT! tear!the! inner! cover,! AT! ANY!TIME,! as! the! sealed! protection! will! be!
DAMAGED.!
§ The!outer!cover!is!made!of!a!combination!of!waterproof!fire!retardant!textiles!with!an!anti-slip!
property.!
o DO!NOT!use!the!cushion!without!either!the!inner!or!outer!cover.!!If!the!covers!are!torn,!they!MUST!be!
replaced!IMMEDIATELY.!
o Avoid!using!the! cushion! on! overly! stretched!seat!upholstery.!! Stretched!upholstery! does! not! provide!
adequate!support!for!the!cushion!and!improper!positioning!may!result.!!Replace!stretched!upholstery.!
o The!use!of!an!improper!cover!can!adversely!affect!the!performance!of!the!STOPUS!seat!cushion.!!!
o Use!only!Positech!innovation!designed!covers!in!conjunction!with!the!STOPUS!seat!cushion.!

deformed,! breaking,! worn,! and/or! compressed.! ! Corrective! maintenance! can! be! performed! at! or!

!Positech!innovation!recommends!that!you!do!not!smoke!cigarettes!while!seated!on!STOPUS!although!the!

STEP!I!:!!!
• Unzip!the!outer!cover.!!Use!CARE!not!to!snag!the!inner!cover!in!the!outer!cover!zipper,!or!damage!to!the!
inner!cover!will!occur.!!
• Remove!gently!the!foam!structure!protected!by!the!inner!vinyl!sealed!cover!and!follow!the!care!instructions!
for!this!component!in!STEP!II.!
• The!outer!cover!is!hand!washable!in!cold!water!with!a!mild!detergent.!
• Rinse!thoroughly!and!air!dry!completely!
STEP!II!:!
• The!inner!vinyl!sealed!cover!can!be!wiped!with!a!dampened!soft!cloth.!!A!mild!soap!may!be!used.!Rinse!off.!
Wipe!to!dry!with!a!cloth.!!Air!dry!EACH!SIDE.!
• Store!in!a!safe!place!until!it!is!time!to!reassemble.!
STEP!III!:!
• Make!sure!that!all!components!are!completely!dry!before!reassembling.!!
ATTENTION!:!!Reinsert!the!foam!structure!by!ensuring!that!:!
§ The!rounded!edges!go!first.!!!!
§ The!bowl!shape!portion!of!the!cushion!is!in!the!back!where!the!zipper!is!located.!!!
§ The!flat!firm!surface!of!the!foam!structure!must!be!facing!the!Velcro!side!of!the!outer!cover.!!
• Place!the!outer!cover!properly!and!zip.!Use!CARE!not!to!snag!the!inner!cover!in!the!outer!cover!zipper,!or!
damage!to!the!inner!cover!will!occur.!!
• Re-position!STOPUS!by!making!sure!that!the!STOPUS!label!is!right-side-up!and!located!on!the!front!left!side!
of!the!wheelchair.!
• In!between!monthly!cleaning,!the!outer!cover!should!be!wiped!down!with!a!slightly!dampened!cloth.!!
