unit for the first time.
Before use, each ALF must be adjusted by the manufacturer to
the particular turntable ladder.

TARGETING
INTRODUCTION
The Advanced Location Finder (ALF) is a handheld measuring device for
rescue vehicles, especially for turntable ladders. The suitable position of a
turntable ladder can be checked within seconds with the help of the ALF.
A critical question when using aerial ladders is whether the gui-
de point can be reached from the selected position. As a rule, one re-
lies on the subjective assessment and the empirical values of the
Turntable ladder machinists.By using ALF,a clear, objective statement based
on measured values can be made within seconds. This significantly reduces
the operator‘s operational stress. In case of incorrect position selection for the
turntable ladder vehicle, the measuring device displays a proposed solution.
With only one measurement, the ALF checks the selected position. The
measurement is always carried out at the desired guide point. The ma-
chine operator first selects what he considers to be a good location for
the installation site of the turntable ladder. He then uses the ALF to aim
at the corresponding guide point (e.g. balcony) and carries out a mea-
surement. Within seconds, the ALF indicates whether the selected loca-
tion is suitable for setting up the turntable ladder to reach the target.
It is important that the ALF only provides support for the operator.
represents. Nevertheless, the machine operator must take into account
other factors such as nature of the ground oder souil conditions. The machi-
ne operator must still be able to assess the situation. The ALF supports the
machine operator in two ways. On the one hand, the distance can be measu-
red objectively with the ALF. This way the operator does not have to rely on
a subjective estimate. On the other hand, the ALF establishes a relationship
between the field of use of the turntable ladder and the measured values.

5
Do not dazzle any living being during sighting. Looking into the laser beam
is dangerous and harmful to the eyes.
TARGETING
TARGETING
1
Hold the ALF with the small opening on the lower edge
against your eye and place your finger already on the „Laser“
button. The viewing angle should be as straight as possible.
2IIn the middle of your field of vision you will see a small circle.
Move the ALF until the desired guide point is within this circ-
le. Now perform the measurement.

WARNING
In dark situations, aim the visible red laser dot directly at the
desired guide point. Then perform the measurement.

The operator places the turntable
ladder at an appropriate distance.
He then selects a suitable location for
setting up the turntable ladder.

14
POSITIONING
The turntable centre of the turntable ladder must be positioned so that it is
above the measurement location. The turntable ladder must therefore be
aligned both lengthwise and crosswise to this point. It is recommended to
visibly mark the centre of the turntable on the vehicle, e.g. with coloured
dots. Furthermore, it makes sense to mark the location of the measurement
during shunting.

MISCELLANEOUS
The permanently installed battery offers an operating time of up to 7,000
measurements when fully charged. The charge indicator lights below the
display indicate the charging status of the ALF.
To charge the ALF, connect the ALF to the USB port on the bottom of the
unit with a USB power supply or computer using a mini USB cable.

The ALF can store up to five con-
figurations of different turntable
ladders. You can switch between
each configuration by pressing the
two upper buttons (outrigger and
rescue cage) for about five se-
conds.
The selected configura-
tion is displayed at the
bottom of the screen. If a measu-
rement has already been trigge-
red, the result is immediately recalculated and displayed after the configu-
ration has been changed.
This feature is not available for use in operations.

SAFETY NOTICES
Distance measurement may be affected by external optical influences such
as rain, snow, fog, sun or the condition of the target surface. In order not
to negatively influence the measurement, the instrument must be held still
during the measurement.
The actual installation angle of the turntable ladder and the resulting projec-
tion or rescue height vary depending on the condition of the ground (e.g.
underground car park departure). The ALF cannot take this condition into
account. This can result in discrepancies between the measurement result
and reality.
