Installation
IMPORTANT:
•Read all instructions carefully. Failure to do so may result in a hazardous
condition.
•This unit is designed for use with 24 volt Multi-stage conventional heating and
cooling systems. Check the operating voltage of your system, and do not use this
thermostat with systems exceeding 30 volts.
•All wiring must conform to local and national electrical codes.
•Always disconnect the power supply during installation to prevent shock or
equipment damage.
•This thermostat should only be installed and used as describedin this manual.
Any other use will void the warranty.

Removing an old thermostat
•Be certain all power to the heating or cooling system is disconnected.
•Remove the cover of the old unit, and identify each wire by placing a piece of tape
with the terminal designation marked on it before disconnecting the wires.
•Remove the existing thermostat from the wall while securing the wires to prevent
them from falling back into the wall.
Location
•Locate the thermostat 4 to 5 feet above the floor on an inside wall in accordance with
applicable codes.
•Locate the unit in an area with good air circulation, and of average temperature.
•Avoid areas affected by drafts, dead spots behind doors or in corners, exposure to
direct airflow from ducts, and exposure to significant radiant heat from sunlight,
lamps, or other appliances.

Attaching the sub-base to the wall (See Fig. 1)
1. Be sure all power to the heating or cooling system is disconnected.

2. Remove the thermostat from the box and packaging.
3. Carefully remove the sub-base from the unit by pressing the latch release under the
bottom of the front side of the unit.
4. Place the sub-base against the wall in the desired location while guiding the
control wires through center opening, and mark the mounting hole locations using the
sub-base slots as a template.
5. Remove the sub-base from the wall, and drill the mounting holes using a 3/16 in.
drill bit.
6. Mount the sub-base to the wall using the screws and anchors provided, while
guiding the wires through the wire opening.
7. Connect the wires securely to the terminal block using the appropriate terminal
designations, referring to the Wiring Diagram section of this manual. Important:
Be sure to follow instructions for jumper installation in diagrams.

Internal Switch Setting and Mounting the Thermostat to the Sub-base (See fig. 2)
1) Set the system switch (“heat-off-cool”) to the “off”position and the fan switch to
“Auto”(front face of the unit below the display).
2) Turn the thermostat over to expose the HG/HE (gas /electric) fan option,
and the F/C (Fahrenheit/Celsius) switches.
3) Gently move both switches to the appropriate settings (labeled on circuit board).
4) Carefully align the tabs at the top of the sub-base (fig.1) with the slots the top of the
edge of the thermostat housing (fig. 2).
5) Allow the thermostat to swing down while pressing on the lower edge until it latches.
6) Restore system power.

Checking Thermostat Operation
Important:
•Do not short terminals on the gas valve or the system control board to test
thermostat operation. This may damage the thermostat, and void the
warranty.
•Do not switch the unit to the “cool”mode if the outside temperature is less
than 50 deg. F (10 deg. C). This may result in compressor damage.
•For compressor protection during power outages, there is a 5 minute delay
for start up of the compressor after its last turn-off.
1) Place the fan switch in the “On”position. The blower should start
immediately.
2) Place the fan switch in the “Off”position. The blower should stop
immediately.
3) Move the system switch to the “Heat”position. Press the ^ button on the key
pad until the set point temperature is at least 1 degree above the room
temperature. The heating system should turn on within several seconds,
although the fan turn-on may be delayed depending on the system.

4) Press the ^ button on the key pad again until the set point temperature is at least 3
degrees above the room temperature. The second stage of the heating system
should turn on within several seconds.
5) Move the system switch to the “Off”position again. The heating system
should shut off within several seconds although the fan may continue to
run for several minutes.
6) Move the system switch to the cool position and press the button until the
set point is at least 1 degree below the room temperature. The cooling system
should turn on within several seconds. (IMPORTANT: skip the cooling
test steps, 6 and 7, unless the outside temperature is at least 50 deg. F, 10
deg. C).
7) If the system is equipped with second stage cooling, press the button again
until the set point is at least 3 degrees below the room temperature. The
second stage of the cooling system should turn on within several seconds.

8) Move the system switch back to the “Off”position. The cooling system should

Settings (see fig. 3)
1) Swing the cover up to the open position, and set the system switch by selecting
either “Heat”(heating system), “Cool”(air conditioning system) or “Off”.
2) Set the fan switch by selecting “Auto”or “On”. “Auto”turns the fan on
automatically when the heating or cooling system is activated. If “On”is selected,
the fan will run continuously.
3) Set the temperature differentials only if the system is turning off and on too often
(the default settings are compatible with most heating and cooling systems) by
pressing the “Return”key for 4 seconds. The display will show flashing “d1”and

Press the up or down button to change the differential between .5, 1.0 or 2.0 deg F
(.25, .5 or 1.0 deg C). A higher differential setting will cause the system to turn
off and on less often, but the room temperature will vary more widely from the set
point. A lower setting will keep the room temperature closer to the set point, but
the system will cycle more frequently. If the second stage differential does not
require setting, simply wait 15 seconds until the unit returns automatically to the
normal operating mode.
4) To set the second stage differential, press the “Return”key again before the unit
returns to the normal mode. The display will show flashing “d2”and “SET”icons
with the current 2nd stage differential shown on the right side of the display.

Press the up or down button to change the differential between 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 deg
F (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 deg C). If the Residual Fan Delay (see next step) does
not require setting, simply wait 15 seconds until the unit returns automatically to
the normal operating mode. If you do wish to set the Residual Fan Delay press
the “Return”key before the unit returns to normal mode.
5) After pressing the “Return”key (while in Temperature Differential setting) to set
the Residual Fan Delay, you will see the “SET”and the fan icons flashing along
with the delay in seconds on the right side of the display. For maximum
efficiency, the Residual Fan Delay feature allows the fan to continue to run for a
preset time (1 minute default setting) after the cooling system has turned off.
Press the “Up”and “Down”keys to change the Residual Fan Delay between 0
(disabled), 30, 60, and 90 seconds. Press the “Return”key to set the Adjustable
Hold Period, or wait 15 seconds for the unit to return to the normal mode.

6) After pressing the “Return”key again (while in Residual Fan Delay setting) to set
the Adjustable Hold Period, press the “Up”or “Down”key to toggle between
Indefinite Hold and 24 Hour Hold.

The default is Indefinite Hold. If the “Hold”key is pressed, the current set point
will be maintained until Hold is released by pressing the “Hold”key again. If the
24 Hour Hold is selected, the current set point would be maintained for 24 hours
or until the Hold is released by pressing the “Hold”key again. The thermostat
will then return to its normal program. Press the “Return”key to enter the
Adjustable Filter Warning setting, or wait 15 seconds for the thermostat to accept
the changes and return to normal operation mode.
7) The Adjustable Filter Warning displays the “FILT”icon when it is time to
change/clean the filter in your system. Press the “Up”or “Down”key to change
the filter warning interval between 0, 120, 300, 600, 900, 1200, or 1800 hours of
fan operation. The default is 0 (warning disabled). When you are finished
adjusting the settings, press the “Return”key or wait 15 seconds for the thermostat
to accept the changes and return to normal mode.

c. Press the “Day/Time”key again. The minute portion of the display will flash.
d. Press the “Up”or “Down”key to set the current minute.
e. Press the “Day/Time”key again. The day of the week portion of the display
will flash.
f. Press the “Up”or “Down”key to set the current day of week.
g. Press the “Day/Time”key again to return to normal operation mode, or the
thermostat will return automatically after 15 seconds.
8) Setting Time and Day of Week
a. While in normal operating mode, press the “Day/Time”key. The display will
clear except for the time, the am/pm indicator, and the day of week. The hour
portion of the display will flash.
b. Press the “Up”or “Down”key to set the current hour.
