OPERATING THE LOCK:
Your ESL10 Electronic Safe Lock w/ 202A Protex Keypad has a factory
combination of: * - 1-2-3-4-5-6-#
To open the lock, simply press the “*” key to clear and wake up the
electronics. Now press the keys of the combination one at a time and
finish with the “#” key.
If the combination is keyed correct, you will hear a click and the LED
will lit (RED).
You have 3 seconds to open the door before the lock will relock itself
automatically.
Here are a few things to remember:
a) With each keystroke the red lamp on the keypad will flash and a
chirp will be heard.
b) If 4 (four) incorrect combinations are entered, the lock will go into a
“Penalty Lockout Mode” for 15 minutes to prevent trial and error
manipulation attempts at opening the lock. The red lamp will flash
once every 5 seconds during the penalty period, the red lamp will
flash with a chirp 8 times rapidly to indicate the lockout condition.
c) Always make sure to replace batteries with good quality fresh
Alkaline 9 volt batteries. It is recommended to replace the batteries
once a year to prevent corrosion damage from leakage.
d) If the batteries die, you can use the override power cord to power-
up the lock. Just insert the two prong plug into the small outlet
below the keypad (right under the PORTEX logo) then connect a 9
volt battery to the connector. The internal memory of the lock will
keep your combination in memory even if the batteries are dead or
removed.
e) During a sequence, if you make a mistake, you can press the “*”
key to clear the last input and start over again.
Power override connector f) At any time during opening or combination changing the unit will
register the first 5 numbers of the combination into the “buffer” that
receives input. The 6th number will be the last numeric key pressed.
For example, if you press *1-2-3-4-5-6-7-4-5-2-7-6# the program
recognizes only the *-1-2-3-4-5-6-# input. The last numeric key
pressed continues to replace the one prior until the # key is
pressed to indicate completion. This is a security feature that
allows you to baffle an on-looker that maybe trying to
memorize your combination by standing behind you.
So basically you press the first correct 5 digits, followed by any fake
numbers that you make up and end it with the correct 6th digit followed
by the # key.

COMBINATION CHANGING:
You may change your combination any time you like and as many
times as you like. Once your safe is installed you must change the
combination to a number sequence other then the Factory Combination
of 1-2-3-4-5-6 to insure security.
Your code must consist of 6 digits.
Note: Combination changes should always be done with the door
opened.
The input of the new combination is done by keying a “change key”
code. Followed by the Old Combination to validate a change and then
followed by entering the New Combination twice to avoid a keying
error. To change the combination, do the following:
a) Press the keys “*” and then “#”. The unit will respond with a short
warbling tone and the red lamp will strobe with the tone.
b) Now key the old 6 digit combination (1-2-3-4-5-6 if this is the first
time you are changing the combination) and end by pressing “#” (a
short good combo tone will sound.)
c) Now key the first pass with your new 6 digit combination followed
by the # key, (a short good combo tone will sound.)
d) Now repeat your combination for the second time and end it with
the “#” key as before.
1. If the combination input matches the first pass, a long good
combo tone is sounded.
2. If the combination keyed does not match the first pass, the unit
will respond with a bad combo tone (4 short beeps).
e) Now test your new combination by pressing “*” your new 6 digits
combo followed by “#”.
Note: Test your New Combination several times prior to closing
and locking the safe.
